I could of been an angel surrounded by pure serenity before someone decided to transfer my soul into some baby body.

The thing is we are still oblivious about stuff that really matter, we all have philosophical questions from time to time.

I suppose the most logical thing is that when we die thats it, no heaven or hell or anything ridiculous like that, but still even than.

How can 2 or even 1 person decide for the person they are going to bring on the world to bring him/her on the world without his/her approval? Isnt that completely selfish?

Do people even realise what they are doing when they put another being on this world? I think they only do this for selfish reasons.

If I ever have a child, it will be for the sole reason of improving my own life in some way.

You're taking the position that there exists a conscious form of "you" when you are not/were not alive...

Never thought of it that way. Interesting little idea.

I'm thankful for being born, so I don't think I can ever quite tackle this dilemma.

To overcome the fear of death and instinct to live is very difficult, even if one hates to live.

I admire all those brave people who killed themselves.

Why should people having kids think about how you might feel after being born and becoming old enough to think about things like this?

You wouldn't even be born yet. They have no idea what you want or don't want.

Yes, people have kids sometimes for themselves. But why is that such a bad thing?

Sorry if this is too technical, but half of your origins did have a form of choice. Human women have one egg that can be fertilized at a time. Yes, the egg can split and that's how we get twins but its still one egg. However, the male gametes have a rather populated race. You would have been a different person had a different sperm won the race. Therefore, you could say, that part of you wanted to be something more on some level.

Now you sort of casually mention the possibility of being an angel before being born but later question whether you just disappear when you die. I'm sure you know, its rather difficult to have it both ways. However, now I'm going to stop being technical and address what the real question is, as I see it. You feel resentful of your responsibilities of a human being and are looking for some way out of them. I won't lie and say that I don't think that way at times. I can tell you though, that I always come to the same conclusion eventually:

you're here. There's a reason your here. Find meaning in life and keep moving forward. Anything negative that you conclude is just going to make you more miserable.

He has a point though. Why is this question so important? What does it matter why people have kids? What does it matter who has the right to put someone on this planet? Said person is already on this Earth, so why not just make the most out of the life he or she is currently living? Questions like this aren't important. Asking questions and thinking about things can be a good thing I suppose, but this question and questions like this seem silly.

I've always felt life was a punishment . I just realised maybe it's not. If it is, then when my punishment is over it's over. There's nothing I can really do. Just trying to live as best as I can. I've always just tried to live a life where you better yourself . I guess a lot of things in life are self inflicted suffering as well. Not all. But if you're able to get up, out and on with stuff it's really only you holding you back.

I think of it as this. If I am being punished then I have to do my very best to earn forgiveness.

Life can be pretty terrible at times. is there anything you can do to alleviate the suffering for others and instead of asking what the world can do for you, what YOU can do for the world. Be a hero, be Bill Nye or Ken Ham, be a clown , be something of value to the people around you and show them you can rise above hate.

Make your accidental birth mean something if it has no meaning .

If you learned how life and reproduction works you wouldn't think you're a special snowflake coming from some magical force. How your body comes into existence is nearly identical to all other mammals. How the gametes even formed in the first place is the same for eukaryotic animal cells. You need to go down to the DNA level (chain of nucleic acid which make up the chromosomes inside of each cell) and look at the variation in A-T/G-C sequences to differentiate between species. And even then, it's 99% similar to a chimpanzee's.

Your existence is decided because of nature and the fact that sexual selection is so overwhelmingly important for life to function (because no sex = no reproduction, so those genes that prioritized reproduction end up being reproduced more often, leading to that quality to persist and exist in the gene pool) that all species have evolved to essentially prioritize it (hence, the ever-present desire to f*** or ridiculous features on other living things). That combined with the "biological clock" of a female leads to people choosing to have offspring. You were nothing but two haploid sex cells: the sperm coming from the male and an egg from the female which were both produced via meiosis (the function of cell division that produces the daughter cells for reproduction).

So short answer: Your parents, who are genetically programmed to do so (or at least have a considerable urge to do so, which is in the case of all existing species, because if they didn't have this trait the species wouldn't exist anymore since they didn't have an urge to reproduce in the first place).

The truth can be depressing or very interesting, and I take it as the latter. The marvels of even the most simple functions we take for granted are incredible upon closer observation, and even looking at the structure of your hand and how it functions is really an impressive feat, since our bodies are programmed to function near-optimally. Even simple things like the distribution and staggering of the forms on the body have purpose for the sake of balance and weight distribution. And when you look at how other species have evolved for specific purposes to match their environments, you get some really cool-looking things with some bizarre functions, all of which make perfect sense.

actually, I disagree with this one.

1. the part of you wanted to be something? That would mean that it had something like a consciousness, which is indeed not the case. Your first part is bunk.
2. I'm interested at how you came to such a conclusion. theres a reason you are here is not really a special statement, because it applys to all 7,300,000 humans on the earth too. And there is a reason for almost everything, which makes reason really not a special thing.

----------------
Life as such has no meaning, other than to reproduce. But we as humans are able to outgrow our instincts, and reach for higher goals, other than solely reproducing. We are able to set our own goals.
Its not that there IS a meaning of life. We ourselves give life meaning. And this is something wonderful.
--> meaning of life is subjective. You can only

With 7 billion humans on this world mass reproduction is no longer needed and could prove disadvantage for our own species. The fact you have an urge to reproduce does not mean you have to act upon it.

Sexual selection works on the individual level and doesn't factor into what's best for other people in the world. Obviously, because we are capable of higher thought, we are able to make our own decisions (although many still don't and ultimately act on their instincts over reason, hence so many teen or other pregnancies. That should go to show how strong that trait is).

It's impossible to ask an unborn person if they want to be born... and even if you could, they'd lack the capacity to be able to answer that question because they have no idea what life is like.

That's like asking someone who's never even heard of Jamaica if they want to go to Jamaica. Lol

But if you didn't know what kind of place Jamaica was, even if you did answer the question, you'd still have been making a completely uninformed decision~

Another example, someone could ask me if I wanted to try some type of exotic food item, lets call it lewdjuice. I could say "heck no I don't want to try lewd juice, I'm fine with regular food!" but since I have no idea what lewdjuice is or what it tastes like, my decision would have been uninformed. lewdjuice could have been the best thing I would've ever tasted.

so... here is my final answer to this topic:

1. selfishness is a part of being human. I do no necessarily consider it a bad thing
2. Your parents have the right to decide this, just look it up. There are books where all laws are listed.
3. the unborn child would not be qualified to decide. So where is the point in asking it?

His opinion on suicide has nothing to do with whether he cares about other humans or not.
I cant see why someone would suicide, but I don't see why someone should be forced to live if they don't want to.
This "It's such a selfish thing to do" argument that so many people use really is hilariously backwards.

so far the answer is that its programmed in our genes to reproduce, the other is selfishness.

Those 2 reasons seem wrong to me, atleast in the current state of the world.

ITT philosophical-wannabes who can't appreciate what they have and bring the rest of us down with their single-mindedness.

You're born into this world to want to live and try to have a good life, regardless of where or how you were born. Stop trying to be so damn hipster by trying to think otherwise, and if you are going to anyway, keep it to yourself. The people who are actually understand and are enjoying their lives don't want to hear it.

I'm allergic to your disgusting black rukh.
☕ Truth be told, I'm quite proud of my house blend. To attain my flavor and fragrance, I use five different types of coffee beans. ☕

maybe you should try to understand that there isnt a right or wrong when it comes to how people should live their lives.
Its kind of naughty to tell everybody who has an opinion different from yours to be quiet about it, because your fragile mind would be "brought down".
Also: If you dont want to know other peoples opinions, than that makes you an ignorant person.
