Basically anime that don't try to be realistic but form an antithesis to the cruelty of the real world by offering a positive outlook while propagating values such as friendship, love, trust, loyalty, honesty etc.

I'm thinking of something like Kobato or even Toradora.

Do you like this kind of anime? And do you think there should be more of them?

Nah, too unrealistic and cliché, I'd rather not have more of those.

When considering works like Kobato and Aria, I think that these kind of stories are necessary to counter reality and show that there is beauty in this world. As much as I enjoy the optimistic messages they send, I would only watch them in light amounts, since that kind of euphoria could lead to extreme desires of escapism.

So much of anime is this and yes, I like it. I like pure kinds of characters doing shit for their values and yayy everything working out in some way. There are good stories to be told in that too, so I care about that more than it being too unrealistic.

I think most SoL are lacking this actually. Take Lucky Star for example, sure it's cute and got a positive outlook. But after all it's all moe fanservice, the characters are lacking "heart", or at least that's the best way I can put it.

These kind of anime make of most of my favorites, if just because of how hard it is to make an unrealistically cheerful anime that's not too far detached from the viewer. Aria has already been mentioned, and I'll add in things like Tokyo Godfathers and Bartender, whose lifeblood are thick with idealism and weigh heavily on the suspension of disbelief. Yeah they're unrealistic, but if shows nowadays can make you believe in fantastic worlds full of adventure, zombie apocalypses, and futuristic worlds full of strife and discord, I find it strange for why it's so difficult to believe in the little miracles in everyday life. It's certainly sappy, yeah, but imagine there were a hardcore cynical bastard here. If an anime could get them to calm the eff down and take a slightly more optimistic look on life, or even just have fun, that anime must be exceptional, regardless of its level of realism.

Also, nah, I don't think there should be more of them. A good balance of the dramatic stuff and the cheerful stuff enriches the experience of each of 'em everytime someone hops the fence to the other side.

I enjoy my heartwarming anime/manga/novels/movies/etc. So yea I wouldn't mind more of them.

I generally read/watch something dramatic/dark/bittersweet and then switch to a heartwarming anime so I am glad there are quite a bit out there. As for quality...well that is another story.

Not sure if i got exactly the kind of anime you were referring to. But Kemono no Souja Erin is certainly a heartwarming series which values the beauty hidden in simple daily things such as the love for your family, nature and animals, besides being a story truly uplifting and touchingly moving.

Not to forget, Natsume Yuujinchou. The above also applies to it with some really unforgettably memorable stories here and there during the series, what made it reach an important place in my heart .

An old-forgotten series that just a few ones are aware of its existence is Popolocrois. A children's story with a simple but competent plot that encourages me and strengthens my dreams whenever i feel sad. A truly magic Fairy Tale

I'm totally into cheesy, easy-going moods and positive emotions all over the story. So yay.

I actually clapped after I finished reading this. Bravo~
Sometimes it's good to just sit down, chilax and have a good time, not all "good" anime have to be all grimdark.

few years later, CLAMP is working on a grimm's fairy tale adaptation with wit studio as well and here's a vid i found that may also be interesting to share on the topic.
