I was wondering if there are others, who listen to Japanese music because of animes. I'm not going to lie - yes, it was because of the anime that I now listen to J-Pop, etc. It's addictive like a drug! T_T XD

Before voting, post a message suggesting any other options for the poll.

Thanks in advance!

Should have a middle option as well.

I clearly would not be likely to listen to Jpop, but then there are some bands like Mutyumu which I would probably find sooner or later due to being interested in those genres and composers like Uematsu, Otani, Sakimoto and Mitsuda that I would still have discovered due to my JRPG playing.

I got to know X-Japan before I started watching anime, so there should be an option for someone who already was familiar with the J-pop culture.

This.
I knew sex machineguns and others, while they have nothing to do with anime.

Meh, probably. I listen to Korean rap, and I don't watch or do anything else Korea related (aside from some Star Craft back in the day).

I dislike jpop as much as I do regular American pop, but I may have come to like some jrock bands had I been introduced to them.

I doubt I would've became interested in Japanese culture if it wasn't for anime let alone Japanese music. I also doubt I would listen to music if I never discovered anime. I never really got into mainstream (nor-niche stuff) english-language music.

One thing is for sure, I don't listen to Les Rallizes Dénudés and Kazumoto Endo because they did the OP of some anime.

Presumably because if they did, that anime would be full of so much awesome it would become a genre unto itself, ascend to godhood, be elected President of Forever and make all other culture ever obsolete.

I started listen to American music not because of Hollywood/Disney/whatever, so I suppose it's the same with Japanese music. It's just that anime is the one who introduced me to it.

japanese music culture, like any other country's, has a wide variety of very talented musicians that have some really amazing work. i listen to a lot of japanese music, none of it related to anime or jpop whatsoever.

I do have a few Japanese favourites like the two rock groups Bugy Craxone and Supercar or the nu-jazz duo Kyoto Jazz Massive, but these aren't bands that I've discovered through anime.

Funnily enough, when trying to think of memorable music from anime, the ones that came to mind first were Franz Ferdinand from Paradise Kiss and Oasis from Higashi no Eden. There is plenty of good music featured on anime, but I've yet to find anything earth-shatteringly awesome.

Some good ones that I can think of include:

  • Soil & "Pimp" Sessions from on Michiko to Haccin is awesome if you can ignore the name.
  • Narasaki featured on Parakisu.
  • 9mm Parabellum Bullet from RD Sennou Chousashitsu has some good songs.
  • Kenji Ootsuki from the epic opening song of Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei.

Mostly I listen to European or American music.

I was introduced to Japanese music before knowing Anime was Japanese. J-pop is a bit redutive.

In fact, I only knew that there were idiot Japanese songs thanks to anime. Before paying attention, everything that was given to me was good.

Majority of my J-music is from soundtracks, of both the anime and game variety. In fact, I think the only band that isn't is Rurutia, and that strangely enough came due to someone basing an artwork on one of her songs =\. Not only that, but about 80% of it is instrumental, since I'm not really a fan of Japanese vocals.

Oh, absolutely. Loved Japanese music even before I got into anime, not just the pop stuff or anime OP and ED. Like... actual other genres. Enka, indie, rock, traditional stuff.

And it's not because I'm some Japanophile or whatever you call them. I listen to Japanese music as much as I listen to English, Spanish, French, German, Indian, or Chinese music as well.

Tough question to answer. If it weren't because of anime I probably would have only had a very limited amount of exposure to japanese music. I don't listen to music from a lot of countries because I haven't even heard a lot of music from other countries.

But Japanese music can mean a lot of things beside 'J-Pop', even though I can see what you meant by this.

As a whole, a lot of the Japanese artists which I had found out are interesting to listen too. Traditional Eastern music too has its own particular charm.

Actually, I can't say that since the first time I heard a Japanese song was CCS's Japanese OP.

Well I got into Japanese music through anime but I'm sure if I found a Japanese song or something on youtube if I didn't watch anime I'd still like it. Not everyone listens to Japanese music because of anime. Anime just helped people to get interested.

simple answer HOW THE FUCK WOULD I KNOW. the whole japanses rock was the reason i loved anime Celtic Frost who did the sound track to alo of manga mainia videos befor the whole 'anime' thing were scandinavian though. i heard som enew j pop and ive always listed to the games gurus that make the mario zelda and the rest of the FF7 etc so i guess yeah but i dunno, i mean if i didnt like games and anime then i wold really like the music i guess either, but the new punky japanese bands set themseves apart and are great musicians in thier own right. i guess that the anime scen had rocketed them to more focal point of fame for the masses though so its a good thing.
