I watched the anime before reading the manga - the anime was good, and I love it because it got me to read Fruits Basket, but it is pale in comparison to the manga. The manga goes much deeper, and hits you way harder, than the anime ever did. In the anime, the story had barely just begun. The manga wraps everything up perfectly.

I re-read the manga about a month ago, in a few day stint. Once I got to the later volumes it was just like the first time - rapid page flipping, my eyes gobbling up every single word and picture. When I finally finished, I sat back, and ... I cried for about 5 minutes (I'm embarrassed to say). I just felt so much emotion, I think I needed to release some of it, haha. And of course, I could only think about it for the first week after.

This series is just one that gets to me like none ever has before.

The manga because more stuff happens, and the anime only went up to the manga's 7th volume while there's over 20 volumes.

I enjoyed the voice work in the anime. But then, voices and music are why anime is always better than manga.

Interesting.
I've never thought of it that way, but it's not that i dont enjoy the voices and music.
I just think that the manga's storylines are usually more powerful (if made before the anime- like this case). Also the artwork is what draws me into the manga/anime most of the time. I read the manga first also, so when it came to the anime i was a little disappointed, although the music was good.
I understand your point though, its strange how that has never crossed my mind before though.
Thanks for the opinion!

The manga is sooooooooo much better than the anime. The anime took out the deepness that made the manga so moving. Not to mention Isuzu and Kureno aren't in it and there's the whole Akito details that we never see in the anime.

The one point I give to the anime is the Teru Teru Momiji song XD It was so cute lol

I much prefure that manga.
As much as i enjoy the anime too, the manga as alot more story to it, all the characters are in it, you meet them all and learn more about them.

And the art is fantastic.

I wached the anime first, and I didn't find it that interesting. But, since it was one of the very first anime I had ever seen, I continued into the manga anyway, 'cause I really didn't have anything else to read/watch. If I were to watch Fruits Basket now, I'm sure I wouldn;t have continued into the manga.

BUT I'M SO GLAD I DID.
The mange was freaking amazing. It made so much sense, and it had such a great ending... I loved it.

I've only read through vol. 6 of the manga, but I finished the anime yesterday and must say I enjoyed it very much. I think it serves as a very nice introduction to the characters and has made me even more excited to finish reading the manga.

I do love both...but the manga is sooooooo much better! As soon as a new volume comes out I buy it asap and read it that day! I just can't wait to find out what happens next!

I understand that the anime came out way before the manga had an ending so they had to come up w/ one that was different. Which that does put a different spin on it, but with all the suprises and drama and excitement the manga has, it just keeps me reading and rereading them!

I love Kyo, Tohru, and Yuki! Fruits Basket is my favorite manga! (which is why I have the user name I have) ;)

I saw one episode of the anime ages ago, and it really didn't appeal to me. But since I noticed so far that some series have a huge difference between the quality of the manga and anime, decided to take a look at the manga. And got hooked. I'd say the manga is probably definitely better, but I'll come rate after I've read the whole thing, plus made myself watch it. :) Good luck to me.

Manga

The anime doesn't do the manga much justice. The ending left at a huge cliffhanger, so the anime seemed a bit off too.

Manga's the best.

To tell the truth, I watched the anime first. It totally got me hooked! Even with the damned dub here(Hong Kong), it got me very much hooked! The story was awesome and deep. Out of all the anime I've watched (I was like 9-10), which is not many, that was definitely the deepest.

Then I started to read the manga when my friend said it had a great ending. I understood much much more and, got myself cryin' at the sad parts.

Fruits Basket is the first and only shoujo manga/anime I'll ever read/watch. The other onse are very predictable, which makes Fruits Basket appear even better!

Fruits Basket RULZE!

I've only read the manga, but from what I know the anime ends halfway through and it doesn't have a proper ending, so the manga wins for me.

MANGA

I watched the anime long before I even started reading manga, and the manga was the first that I ever read and the only full set I own. Even so, I found the manga far more intriguing and indepth than the anime, which seems silly in comparison to it's original form.

I love how the manga seems "darker" in a way, and of course that it has a proper ending that makes sense to the story. The character developement in the manga is better too, but I may just be bias. It also helps that I love to read, so naturally I'd be drawn to it. ^^

Definitely the manga, although I enjoyed the anime as well!

The manga was so much more detailed and longer, plus it had an AWESOME ending! I think if they made more episodes in the anime it would be much better!

The anime's final scenes take place in volume 6 of the manga. However, the anime switches around certain storylines; for example, some of the characters that were introduced early on in the anime actually turn up in the later volumes. So, it would be kind of confusing for you if you started at volume 6. =)

Anyway, I'd suggest reading from the beginning. You won't regret it, and it won't take you too long to catch up either.
