let's see what you guys come up with.

my favorite is the third solo in Sweet Child o' Mine by Guns and Roses, played by Slash.

another good one that comes to mind is the bridge of Seize the Day by Avenged Sevenfold, played by Synyster Gates.

^ I second the "Sweet Child o' Mine" solo.

"Into the Everflow" by Psychotic Waltz, played by Brain McAlpin and Dan Rock. Twin guitar orgasm.

The intro solo of "Fade to Black", all solos in "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)", and a few others by Metallica, played by Kirk Hammet.

The solos in "Give Into Me" by Michael Jackson, played by Slash.

"This Love" by Pantera, played by Dimebag Darrell.

"Them Bones" and "Would?" by Alice in Chains, played by Jerry Cantrell (simple but works so well).

"Illusion" and "Pity for a Dime" by Creed, played by Mark Tremonti.

"Accolade II", "Sea of Lies", and numerous others by Symphony X, played by Micael Romeo.

"Once Again" by Days of the New, played by Travis Meeks.

"Layla (Unplugged)" by Eric Clapton.

"Cliffs of Dover", "Desert Rose", and "Trademark" by Eric Johnson.

"Scar Tissue" and "Especially in Michigan" by Red Hot Chili Peppers, played by John Frusciante and Omar Rodriguez respectively.

Scorpions "Coast to Coast" and "No One Like You".

No Doubt "Don't Speak".

Van Halen "Dreams".

And...I'm done.

Yes, it's surprisingly good for a Sevendust solo, haha. Sickest song on Next for sure. Black still probably has my favorite solo from them though. X-Mas Day is nice too.

Feed is on Alpha, not Next ;) And yes, XMas Day and Black are both quite nice.

I'mma have to go with Yngwie Malmsteen's "Black Star." It's one gigantic solo and it's so beautifully played.

I like quite a bit of Stratovarius solos. My favorite is probably in "Speed of Light," though. I like others such as "Eagleheart," "Black Diamond," and "Soul of a Vagabond."

Oh, and I love Wintersun's solo in "Death and the Healing." =)

Muse's "Citizen Erased" by Matt Bellemy.

Buckethead's "Nottingham Lace" by Buckethead.

Rage Against The Machine's "Calm Like A Bomb" by Tom Morello.

Also the solos in Ax7's "Afterlife", "Second Heartbeat" and "Desecrate Through Reverance".

The Beserker are the fastest guitar solos in the world. the lead guitarist has been timed he can hit something like 100+ notes in like 5 seconds. plus with the hardcore techno in the background thumping it sounds so good.

Not big on solos (don't like the fast flashy stuff or technical wankery) but a few have stood out over the years..

Genesis ~ Firth of Fifth (Steve Hackett = very underrated)
Television ~ Marquee Moon
Neil Young and Crazy Horse ~ Down by the River
Black Sabbath ~ Planet Caravan

Hmm, need some newer stuff on there. Might have to dig through the collection and refresh my memory.

Opeth - all, but namely A Fair Judgement and basically every solo on their Still Life and My Arms, Your Hearse albums.
Eternal Tears of Sorrow - The River Flows Frozen.
Any solo by Agalloch, especially the one in A Desolation Song.
Most Iron Maiden solos, especially Caught Somewhere In Time.
Between the Buried and Me - White Walls.
Sear Bliss - Somewhere - Melodic interlude -> Trombone solo -> Guitar solo. Sheer awesomeness.
Akira Yamaoka - Tender Sugar, I Want Love, Your Rain.
Moonspell - Most, especially Full Moon Madness, Everything Invaded and Wolfheart (A Werewolf Masquerade).
Lots of other ones I can't think of right now.

For my all-time favorite solo, it would have to be Eric Johnson's Cliffs of Dover. That song is pure ecstasy! The solos from Sweet Child o' Mine and Elephant Bones by That Handsome Devil are pretty kick-ass, too.

Certainly an amazing solo, although I think Windows to the Soul might just beat it. The Riddle comes pretty close too.
