Eh, was pretty much episode 1 with additional script lines. Not a good episode for me.

A nice way to recycle an episode.
How would it be if this anime hasn't started from episode 1, but 2?

A lot of people would have been disappointed to see that a mafia show changed into an SF action show. Because of ep1, you already know that it would change into it so no biggie.

Yeah, I skipped episode one.. So when they had the dog experiments I was on episode 9 or whatever I was like WTF. I thought it was a realistic anime, then it went all SF on me. It's a good show but I don't think SF was appropriate for a mafia story anime.

I understand why they used most of this footage in the first episode because it needs to be explosive to get the attention of idiots but they could've done a small recap in this one instead of showing us the whole thing again.

Hah, I skipped episode 1 on recommendation! I win! On a more serious note, it was good. It took the anime 18 episodes of homosexual overtones and pointless hardman dialogue to get good. Not great, just good. I'll reserve my judgement for later.

The beginning was so kick ass. I wonder if we are getting an explanation of where the stylish clothes and weapons came from.
Apologies, I just can't avoid to rant.

I've loved the mobster meets Berserk storyline so far. I hope they don't take the undead angle to far out there and keep the story centered on the characters.

Well the first episode falls into place now. Everything is clear now. Well I hope Brandon destroys all those who betrayed him.

This was a lot better without the supernatural elements to it.

The first episode again basically, given more context and knowing what lead up to this I enjoyed it quite a bit more.

Not really spoilers if it's done that way intentionally. Just a form of storytelling that a lot of people seem to have a problem with for some reason. It was a good way to keep the viewers wondering how the heck everything turned into such a shitstorm.

Unfortunately, the supernatural elements were necessary to make Brandon who he is now: Beyond the Grave.

Mafia drama with intense characterization and care put into its cast turned into a hellsing style rule of cool revenge story? Well I suppose it could still be fun, but I'm pretty confident due to the new league of evil it's going to lose the charm the first part had. Don't know how that'll affect the whole until it's over.

Half of this was basically episode 1 all over again with slight alterations, what a waste of time.

I hadn't given thought to the name, but now that I know Brandon, Beyond the Grave as a name is so cringy...

This is like rewatching the first episode but it's now easy to understand the plot what I was unable to catch before.

Now after seeing this episode, I wish I would've skipped the first one xD But then again, as I said in the other thread, it was easier to pay attention to some subtle hints and build up.

To be honest, I prefer the first episode over this one. It was way more dynamic and atmospheric since it didn't have to rely on holding the audience's hand the entire time. You'd think the order of the two would be reversed with how much the characters spewed their backstories and motivations in this episode, but I digress.

Criticisms aside, I think this is the first time I've felt sorry for Brandon since the third episode. Regardless of how bad of a person he was, no one deserves to be trapped in his purgatory. It makes me wonder whether he truly knew what he was getting himself into.

I'm one of the few people who actually liked the first episode, this episode was a total waste of time.

I thought people who were recommending the first episode be skipped were dumbasses but after watching this episode, I can conclude that I am the dumbass.

Aha so we're back to EP 1 content, but finally it makes sense with the story, still is basically some setup to how will be the next Harry - Brandon confrontation and how he'll have to protect Mika

While I get that the timeline returned to Episode 1, that didn't mean it needed to be repeated in its entirety with only added flashbacks and two additional scenes at the end. Episode 1 either should've been moved to this point with Episode 2 replacing it, or this episode should've skipped the events of Episode 1 entirely.

Tokioka spends a lot of time loathing himself over "selling his soul to Satan" and "going to hell", despite being one of the more upstanding and lucid characters in this anime. It's a sad sight.
