For some reason this show is living up to my expectation but it's still pretty good.

I think they rushed many parts like trysha death and Mustang's visit.

Hmmm I've rarely seen a BONES anime with such a clear, detailled and well-structureed plot, no doubt that it's far better than the first FMA, on top of the direction obviously (Irie was great in KURAU Phantom Memory, and he's proving that he's better than Mizushima for this second FMA). Excellent episode that seems as the legitimate introduction, but the production values are not that impressive overall.

In every age, in every place, the deeds of men remain the same.

The story was intentionally rushed. However, I don't mind at all just as long as the gist is there. I know that there were some scenes removed.

Overall, I enjoyed the episode. Everything was "there" and they didn't miss out the important parts. It's also great to see that they managed to fit in the brothers' introduction into one episode perfectly.

I liked it, the flashback arc was by far, my least favorite part of the first FMA, seeing how they quickly ran through it this time made me happy. And it also felt quite more emotional too

Only issue i had was the speed in which they killed Trisha off.

Next episode is Lior, and time for the story to kick off.

Very nice episode. It felt a little bit rushed at some parts but it wasn't really that bad.

Once again, rushed, but not as rushed as ep 1. IMO rushing is just as bad as going too slow (KHR), and is definitely a fatal flaw so far. Average episode at best. FMA is overated. Both the original and this.

I hate what how they ran through scenes with Trishia (now she's almost like a tree in background... she only once praised brothers... she was killed in seconds after apperance xD). I hate how they skipped State Alchemist's test... ,,attacking" Fuhrer was not actual test! Winry's parrents died without her crying or even hearing about it from anyone, weird isn't it?

Still I enyoyed this episode, maybe I just love FMA series.

There was SO much going on this episode that went differently. And all of it was great to see, from the loss of the Elrics' mother, Roy's appearance, the Alchemy Exam. Simply amazing.

I didn't really like how they compacted around 5 episodes of the old series into one.
It was supposed to be epic journey to become a State Alchemist, meeting new people/friends and losing a couple. It had a lot of depth in it and really connected the viewer to the characters. It was supposed to leave such a deep impression that you'll never forget.
Also they made MUM so insignificant. She was in ONE bloody scene with ONE line and the next scene she's dead.
Losing so much back story just didn't feel right, but it probably won't bother people who didn't watch the old one.

its fresh, its new and its FOLLOWING the manga... i'm rooting for the new FMA: Brotherhood and i don't give a rats ass on what yu bastards think.. I LOVE IT!

so what if they're rushing it? yu all wanna see the whole commotion all over again? screw that... everything they're doing right now is better than what i expected.. having Yui and SID for theme songs, couldn't get ne better.. and they included everything that happened in the manga (except the first episode, don't really remember that o,0) haha, i love the voice (or should i say voices?) they did for "the truth" .. hey? is it just me, or is it much more dramatic than the first series?? teehee, looking forward to the characters in the manga that they're gonna introduce.. which the first one failed to do... -.-"

I never really enjoyed this part in the series so it was just average to me.
The only thing that bothered me is that Trisha only appeared in one scene. For some reason seeing her filled me with joy and then she was gone ;___;

I'm liking this a lot at present actually. It's sticking to the manga albeit rushing a little, but its still sticking to the manga. I do like how they've linked in the first episode as an even happening before the Lior events, and how they are basically starting the series from scratch(bar obviously the flashback events). I kinda like how Rosa looks now, i get the feeling its closer to how she should look in the manga.

Its been a while since i read the early chapters of the manga, but is the training a flashback later on? Cause i was hoping they would show that as it explains a fair bit.

they really packed a lot of different story material into this one, but i guess it was mainly about the flashback to the initial transmutation incident. i was hoping for something a little different from bones, but it was still good though.

This ep was f****** great...I loved how they depicted the scene of their mother's human transmutation, so much more graphic and descriptive. The truth guy was awesome, and when Ed asked Al about if he remembered, priceless, and I didn't know if they were gonna do the attack the Furor scene, I'm so glad they did...to me this is already better than the first series, can't wait to see Lior...Urahara Out!!

This episode sure brings back my memories of the first (the first being one of my 2 favourite series ever though i haven't read the manga). I loved this episode, i really think it captured the drama of their past. It's very symbolic really. I also must say the animation is freakin incredible in this series and it's what i expect from Bones. I also like the op and ed :) It's strange how knowing what will happen isn't ruining the experience for me at all (well for the time being).

Great episode, didn't mind the pace of it at all! There is no need to drag out the "how we got the way we are" since it was basically covered in the previous series at length. It was just enough to keep me from loosing interest.

Enjoyed this episode, i loved the original anime and would not change the majority of it.

I am only watching this to see what they will do with it, and mainly to see the continued story after the original ended, they can sumerise it and speed it up to that point for all i care.

i don't get why people are bitching about not having 10 episodes of mommy time just cuz the old series did. if you've forgotten, trisha screen time was like, one ep + sprinkled around. no reason they can't do that here if they didn't want to.

but either way i'm just happy they're shoveling the basic plot stuff away so we can get to bigger and better things later on.

for newcomers: sorry yo, just suck it up.

Its not a continued story after the original anime, this series follows the manga so its not going to end up like the first, the storyline is completely different.

And did they mention that the philosopher's stone destroyed Xerxes that early in the manga? It's nice that they mentioned Xing as well, reminds me of whats coming up xD

This felt like watching a recap.I still think that the quality of the animation is not as good as the first series. It's a shame since I really loved the first series. The story is rushed and doesn't give you time to get involved with the characters' feelings and such. I keep comparing this anime to the first series all the time and all I feel is that it's not as great as that one was. I hope when they get to the parts that are different from the past series they pick a better storytelling style.

So, now we're past all the reintroduction and getting right into where the story actually began. What's up with the re-design they gave Rose? She looks really odd.

On another note; I always heard people complain that FMA1 got way too dark by the time the second half began but, it seems to me that this new series isn't dark enough. From these last two episodes, I have seen blatant abuse of chibi, super-deformation, and sweat drops. Seriously, it's like the second half of GetBackers all over again.

having only heard the first series in English, I still can't get used to the Japanese voices in this new remake of FMA. its by no means bad at all but that failed human transmutation scene just didn't make as much of an impact to me when I saw the first series.

Definitely watch the original FMA, it is much better then this alternate retelling. This episode pretty much recapped the beginning of the series pretty well though. As others have said, they crammed a lot of info into one episode. The next episode does look like it is going to introduce something new. At least there is hope.

Like others have said, it's a rushed episode, but it was much better than the first anime adaptation IMO. Also, it was much better than the first episode. A few things were rushed and I hope they go back to them, such as how Ed got the State Alchemist title, but I'm pleased with this season much more than the first one. Looks like I won't be dropping this anytime soon.

I have mixed feelings about this one.

If I had never seen FMA1, I'd probably consider it a decent, enjoyable episode. As it were, not only have I seen it already, but I've seen it done better; this new version had none of the mystery, darkness, and foreboding that made the anime six years ago so damn appealing.

I agree, I was a bit bored by this episode since I remembered what the previous FMA season 1 was like. Maybe if I had not watch the 1st season, this would appeal more to me. But they did add some humor and nice scenes that made me take interest.

It's really difficult to judge the new series when there's so little information on it as of yet and even more difficult to have an unbiased view of it when one has watched the entire first series plus OVAs and movie as well as read the manga.

As it stands, I'm pleased with the content so far, with the art quality, and of course, with the Truth. He's just such an adorable Pillsbury Doughboy. ^_~

Just a thought but do you wonder that perhaps they are "speeding" through the early stages of the story purely because it has been told before in the first series, thus they are planning on using the bulk of the episodes in this series to concentrate on the Manga material not covered in the first series?

It would certainly go some way to explaining why they appear to be taking the approach that the audience is already familiar with the story.

(Still can't get used to the soulless opening...)

Honestly, I didn't quite like this episode. At points it felt rushed (like the part about Winry's parents dying in the war), at points it felt that they were focusing on irrelevant things (they kept showing Ed and Al in the train too often). First series depicted the Elric brothers' childhood much better. Plus, it sure is difficult to get used to the new voices (Mustang sounds too soft for his personality). Yeah, this may have good animation and a higher budget, but what's the point if everything feels like it's done only for the sake of being done?

second the first part, can't wait to see those awesome chapters animated.
but their approach is not only for those who've already seen the first adaptation, it's for newcomers too.

and I have to admit that they do a pretty amazing job, considering the fact that they have to satisfy people who've already seen the first FMA, people who've already read manga and people who've just turned on the show. just look at the comments made by people who's watching it for the first time, they all amazed.

and the second time won't be as great as the first one. ever. so for it's great show, and great pace, cause I want to see recant manga chapters animated.
