Kei seems to be a rather cold and manipulative person... I cant think of one truly nice thing shes done up to this point in the series. Sure, she worries about Hiro and tries to look after him; but it seems like shes just trying to make Hiro dependent on her, rather than doing it out of genuine concern. Additionally, she doesnt seem to have much in common with Hiro and they dont seem to enjoy each others company in any special way... her main way of strengthening her relationship with Hiro is by wedging him away from other girls.

Miyako on the other hand gets along with Hiro pretty well right from the start. She often visits Hiro simply to keep him company (which Hiro seems to appreciate), and she encourages his aspirations to be a manga artist. While the cellphone thing might have been a bit unsettling, its understandable considering the awful things that Kei said to her and whatever seemingly happened in her past. Unlike Kei, who becomes sorta scary and creepy when she thinks shes losing hold of Hiro, Miyako becomes worried and distraught. Shes nowhere near as stalker-ish as people label her, especially compared to Kei.

Personally, I find both of them to be very annoying. Kei is manipulative and wants Hirono to herself and will do anything for that to happen. Whereas Miyako is really cheery and a bit scary at times...

But in the end, I would have to vote for Miyako - because I agree with everything MosefTritonianGT said :)

Better personality, hotter, much more relaxed, a better cook and much more interesting.

Hmmm.. I also like Miyako over Kei for same reasons.

Somehow, from the start, Kei and Hiro didn't have this invisible spark that you'd feel between couples in anime. It's one of the cases in love-tris where the childhood friend has loved the guy eversince and this said guy turns out to have met another girl who is completely different from childhood friend.

Kei's not that bad of a character even though she may have her selfish and stubborn moments but it's just start Miyako's personality is better. Wait, is it even the personality? By looks, even though they're both pretty, it's obvious that Miyako's prettier than the usually tomboy-looking Kei. Plus, I actually love Kei with that other guy so no battle there for me XP

how unhappy and hard past she had.

Kei for sure. I didn't like Miyako in the beginning, and the *SPOILER* bed scene with Hirono *END SPOILER* was the icing on the cake. I really disliked the couple after that.

I'm always in favor of friends from childhood in all shows. The girl works hard, is always beside the boy and in the end he chooses the other.

I cant decide really
I like all 3 girls equally
if your asking who should end up with Hirono then its definitely Miyako
though I also like Kei for her own uniqueness
I personally think that all 3 girls are cute
even though im 11 episodes into memories i still cant decide an overall fav.

Kei is easily superior to Miyako.

If you saw the Higurashi series then you would agree that Miyako has psychotic meltdown written all over her.

That, makes no sense. Her past was terriable yet your saying she told him JUST to win him?

Why would someone do that, plus how could you call a person with serious abandonment issues a crybaby?

Think vice versa would you be keeping it all to yourself, never crying and not caring when your rival threatens you like kei did? No.

r we choosing who WE would personally pick or who is the best for the main character?

Miyako is hands down the best for him. He is attracted to her, she is attracted to him, they have good chemistry and are able to joke with each other easily.

His relationship with Kei is strictly older brother->younger sister...he has shown no indication that he was ever romantically interested in her. he has always been a "protector" in a way, and she nags him like a little sister would. Zero romantic chemistry there...

After having played ef: the first tale I definitely say Kei.

In the game, Miyako never goes crazy and sends a hundred messages to Hiro and Kei doesn't delete anything, so there's no reason to hate her. I know that the novel alone is way too short of material to make the anime adaption, so they need to create some stuff, but that scene just makes both Kei and Miyako look bad and it made me revise the score I gave to this anime months ago.
I'll most likely revise ef - a tale of melodies too after I play ef: the latter tale.

Kei would be the safer bet in my opinion but then again she was partly at fault for the Chihiro incident. Miyako kind of reminds me of Sekai from school days, so I suppose id go with Kei.

I just finished watching this anime, and I have to say that following the storyline I liked Kei a lot more than Miyako. I felt bad for her cause she tried for so many years and then suddenly someone new came in his life and stole him away.. [But I guess that's how life is xD]

You're blaming Kei for ruining Chihiro's life? I never got the impression that Kei paid the driver to run into Chihiro. With the newest episode we're finally seeing Kei's perspective and I'm growing to like her more than before

I kind of understand his point. Kei's selfish act led to the accident with Chihiro. She surely didn't have the intention to hurt her sister nor thought something like that would ever happen. But if she wasn't only thinking about her own happiness, the three would have gone to the beach together and the accident probably wouldn't have happened.

I'm not saying I agree with all this, but I can understand his point. But I do think she's too selfish. Don't like her and she should just go away~ :}

(Sorry my crappy English XP)

Agreed with Sawa. If Kei wasn't jealous and being selfish at that moment, Chihiro wouldn't involve in a car accident..

I don't see how you can say that, it was young sibling rivalry, wich was innocent, and had an unfortunate result. It could have happened without Kei's influence aswell. It wasn't on purpose at the very least

Now miyako on the other hand, is a lot more selfish in my opinion, not even wanting hirono to look at other girls, forcing him to make a decision between her and someone he considers his younger sister ( How cruel can you be?! ). She also acts this way at an older age, and does it fully conciously, and doesn't even show remorse for the way she forces Hirono to make a choise.

My vote goes to Miyako.

While there is no doubt Hiro loves Kei, it is more of a deep friendship love, rather than romantic love (like Okabe and Mayuri in Steins;Gate0

As Hiro said it himself, Miyako completes him; she is the one that brings color and life to his stressful life.

Just revisited the series, (episode 7 in particular).

Really, both girls have some deep-seated problems that will interfere with their relationships for quite awhile. Miyako's flaky nature is a symptom of her abandonment issues (HARDLY rare, it's sad that people think the breakdown makes her a "crazy"), while Kei's, ahem, tsundere personality is just shown to us in it's deconstructed state (unclear, ambiguous, bitchy).

As a fan of the show, my only choice is Miyako over the childhood friend. She does not outright act out against anyone else (I don't see her preventing Hiro from showing up at Kei's game), while Kei sabotages her. They are about to be adults, and while Miyako does run away for awhile, at least she wasn't hostile about it.

I dislike Miyako from the beginning of the series.
Then Kei, I don't like her either. But I like her character design.
Hiro is a good-looking, but in the end, I dislike him too.

I skipped most of Miyako-Hiro-Kei story, so I don't really know their story, or I can't really get their feeling so yeah...., I dislike Miyako from the very start (Episode 1), and I already know this will be a triangle love, and I already know Hiro will end up with Miyako (So predictable), so I skip this love triangle story for the most part)

So, Chihiro and Renji is the only character I like. (Maybe because I skipped Miyako-Hiro-Kei story... )

In the end, I can't judge Kei or Miyako fairly because I don't really know them. But I vote Kei because she is prettier, and Miyako's first encounter with Hiro just annoying. And I do prefer childhood route.

Miyako and here's why.

The reason she wants hero was because her Mom and dad hates each other and wasn't giving her enough love and she decides to have him because she's lonely and she knew kie loves hero and and just barged in and claimed him as hers and she goes in his house like a stalker and makes him lunches. And when he didn't show up for her date she kept calling him and one after the other she sounded desperate more and more and she plays the [ pity me card because my life is scrappy cause no one loves me ] not only that she makes him choose between kei and her on the spot after sleeping with her and when kei saw them in bed together and kei could of gotten hurt if he didn't go to her and that phone call was another pity me call, *Miyako was using a move that knew she'd get him back ( I'm moving away and you want see me again) and he comes running. Hero is a prick for choosing Miyako because he has known kei for years and he's known that slut Miyako for what a week and he didn't notice keis feelings all that time.................What a fucking idiot*

I'm always rooting for the childhood friend and I know what you guys are thinking * only because there childhood friends doesn't mean they have them from the get go* I know that but...........

I can't help but truly hate that slut Miyako. I don't care what her life was hard or not, her reasons was-

Out of loneliness and wanted to get hero no matter what even if it was to hurt kei which she knew loved hero,

Sorry but I hope Miyako got in to a hit and run and slipped in to a comma for 5 years and when she woke up she finds out kei and her I are together with a kid of there own and tries to get him back but he rejects her but says he'll always be her friend and goes out with the guy that liked kei.

That's how much I hate Miyako

Kei pulled out the daggers when she got mad. She aimed to basically kill and keep it a secret even from her lover. Miyako just tried to take what she wanted knowing it would hurt Kei, which is far more forgivable.

Miyako: Yes she's in the way (how neglected children get what they want), she's a slacker, and a bit devious, but nothing compares to Kei's deleting messages from the phone. To do so and hide it was plain evil, unlike simple seduction. The latter can be confronted, the former stays hidden and ends up being more destructive. Kei sister-zoned herself forever with that one.

I also thought Miyako's fears were portrayed well with flashback references etc, so her desperation was VERY tangible to me. She seems more honest.
