I couldn't really care less to be honest. It doesn't really mean anything to me. So I usually accept them just for the hell of it.
Maybe for some people their friends list can be quite "exclusive", hence they don't want just any random person being on there. As if they're hosting a party, but they're only inviting the people that they've conversed with and judged their character well enough to be able to decide whether they're a creep or not.

Or, you know, they just don't like random friend requests. Because, like, they're annoying, and stuff.

I'd be happy with random friend request. I am not too much of an active forumer on any sites so the ones the do add me I will accept. 99% of the time we have things in common.

If the request doesn't have any text and I don't know the person, I leave it "pending" forever. I have three of those currently. The last is from almost a year ago. Only people I don't know and who almost never post on the forums send me requests.

Same. I mean, I would write something if I ever sent a request.

Can't you just reject them? I'd hate to see that ? On my profile for that long.

The question mark doesn't distract me anymore. In the beginning I wanted it to be clean, but later I thought "Why bother?" They're not taking up space.

While I stand by my earlier statement, I will point out that the only time I would ever send a "random" friend request, it would be to someone I've had some form of exchange with on the forums.

I don't just pull a lottery and say "This guy's gettin' a friend req today."

I only accept them if I've talked to them before and I've gotten something positive out of discourse with them.

Well there is no special list they can see but there is a friends only privacy setting for blog posts. That's a good reason if someone wanted to not accept random friend requests.

I accept all of mine, I have no reason to refuse. Sometimes they even start up a conversation.

No, I don't see the meaning in having people in my friend list that I don't talk to. The friends I have are people that I know in real life, from forums or those that actually make the effort to start a conversation with me before sending a request.

Sometimes I accept, sometimes I deny. Even if I have gotten a bunch of new 'friends' I'll eventually just remove them since we never talk.

I usually decline them, unless we have talked before.
Same reason I decline any random adds anywhere else, I'm not going to just be a number for them on their list.

I don't get them often, but when I do, I deny them. The word "friend" is misused on so many sites, it just irks me. A friend is someone you care about. You don't have to talk 24h 7 days a week, but someone you don't even know/never exchanged a single word with isn't a friend, thus isn't worth being on the FRIEND list.

And if all the sites just HAVE to use the word 'friend' for the list, no one should wonder when I take it literally and only add friends on it, people I care about and talk to and enjoy it.

Of course everyone is free to do it their own way though. I'm not bothered by random friend requests anymore either. I once was. But I realized it's no biggie to just click on deny and that's it. ... Doesn't change the fact that I despise facebook for their friend collector trend, ugh..

Well, they do need to add you as a friend to comment on your profile so I'm sure you get a lot. But yeah, I'd like them to add a friendly wall post before adding, that'd make me want to add them more.

I just accept them, send them a message and maybe I'll meet someone cool that way.

On social media like facebook I deny them.

everyone on my list right now is from the forums, whether they sent me a request or i sent it to them
if i get a friend request from someone i've never seen around (or maybe they've made one or two posts i've seen but that's it), i'll accept the request, but will probably delete them later
sure, a random person could send me a request, then talk to me a lot after i accept it... and i wouldn't delete them
but it doesn't tend to happen, i think some people are just trying to get long friend lists, forget the request was sent, or want me to message them first even though i don't know them

I don't. They never chat and just want to add you to make up numbers on their friend list. If they're not going to even write a simple message, oh well. Yes, if someone want to add me, chat first.
