If I had never gotten into anime:
-I would have more disk free space [not like now about few MB of free space] ;P
-I would play games more
-I would have less DVDs

Like hell a cartoon would change my life. Basically, anime has filled in the void that cartoon network and nickelodeon left behind when the shows they started airing bored me. If in anyway it's changed my life it would be the hundred or so dollars I spend on DVD's every month. I find it ridiculous that people change so dramatically from watching an animation on TV. Now, if the news changed your life that's something else, but not a cartoon.

There's some hate in this tag so it's not for the overly sensitive.

Hmm, many people say that anime made them anti-social. I wonder why, 'cause for me it's the opposite effect.

Truth. All anime has done is replace a portion of time I already had set aside for reading books. I guess I read a bit less nowadays, but that is not an extremely negative thing since I still read a great amount more than the regular person.

I own nothing related to anime or manga. I own no plush dolls, body pillows, anime DVD's, manga, nothing. I don't frequent any Asian stores. You'd never know I watch anime or read (1) manga unless you did a thorough dive into the deepest portions of my hard drive. Though, I made my porn easier to find than my anime. So if you started searching you'd come across porn and just assume that it's all porn in the whole directory and sub directories.

It's not that I'm embarrassed or ashamed or anything. It's just too troublesome to tell people to fuck off if they make any snide comments. Since I'm not interested in group anime watching and cons don't appeal to me, there's really no reason to go out of my way to inform people of my interests.

It may teach and it may not. But, most anime, like slice of life, shows you of how much tragedy goes on in life but you should still hold your head up high.

It's made me very picky and critical, and even more of an elitist than I used to be.
Once I got out of the initial "ANIMU IS AWESUM3!!1" phase, realized that most of anime is pretty bad or mediocre as well.

Other than that, it's opened up my musical tastes to some japanese music, and made me buy some manga, dvds and a little bit of other merchandise.

Anime helped me get through hard times as a kid, as in it was all had. It was the starting point of the change that occurred in my life. It did turn me into a otaku, and now all my money goes to manga and anime, but at least I'm happy :D

Anime has shaped me into a different person and I'm glad.

If I was never into anime then I would probably never be obsessed with Japan and it's culture and then end up wanting to learn it. I've been procrastinating alot due to anime, but it's all good. (: And my interests are totally different from the kids around me at school, but it's all good - I like being the outcast. (:

Anime didn't change me at all. Getting the shit beaten out of me in the 7th grade did. Because of this, I learned to stop being a faggot all the time, and realized that I was (for a long while) worthless as a human being. From then on, I've been able to make friends easily, my tastes have matured, and my cynicism has grown (though I wouldn't say I'm an asshole at all). Coincidentally, I started enjoying certain animu right after the fact, but I'm pretty sure it was me getting beaten up that made me a better person. [/lifestory]

Never would have heard much of Japan, except the new toilet inventions of theirs. Never woulda tried to learn Japanese. Never would have been on this site (which I am a lot, mind). Never would have been so accepting of weird things, maybe. And I would never have begun reviewing, which in turn would have left me with less experience at being analytical. And then there's stuff I might have tried out if I had not begun watching anime. Who knows that could have included?

So yeah, I guess so.

I didn't change a lot in me. I always had interest in Asian culture in general because they are significantly different from European. Anime and mangas are just one small part of it. But it didn't shape or reshape me as a person, at all.

I would certainly be less interested and less knowledgeable of the grotesque artsy-fartsy genre and I would be unable to talk with the local nerds.

My answer is obviously yes.
If I had never gotten into anime:
- I would most-likely not be as open-minded as I an now.
- I wouldn't be obsessed (not extremely) with Japan and Japanese culture.
- I probably wouldn't be learning Japanese.
- I probably wouldn't have a ton of Asian friends.
- My interests would be completely different.

All of that plus I wouldn't have any talents. I doubt I would be able to draw as well as I can if I hadn't gotten into anime.

Anime kinda made me a bit more open minded, but Asian dramas probably did more on that part. I also tend to be more true to my Asian heritage. However, I doubt that would have changed if I never got into anime. Other than that, I can't exactly think of another way how anime has shaped me as a person.

I'm surprised that so few people has mentioned MUSIC

B4 I started watching anime I listened only to Heavy Rock/Metal,

Lawl,
My friends thought "WOW, he had an accident and hit his head hard?" when they saw me listening to the Lucky Star OP.

I've found it surprisingly common, this mix of anime related J-pop and metal.
But its always funny to see some Last.FM profile with 95% Black Ambient, Grindcore and Doom Metal, and then suddenly a bunch of OP themes from moe loli shows.
No matter how trve or hardcore one is, there should always bee room for loli annie mays.

I would agree that everything has some affect, however there are degrees. Some people have made anime their primary interest/focus, which is fine. There are however other people that view anime as simply an additional form of entertainment, without it being inherently more meaningful than other mediums.

I can relate to this.

I mostly listen to music with my mp3 player though so my last.fm profile isn't really representing.. it's more like 40% OP themes and 60% death metal lol

True, I wouldn't have been more open minded. I wouldn't be learning Japanese, and I wouldn't be nicknamed "Waisian", or listen to jpop and have a huge Lelouch wallscroll hanging on my wall.

Anime has made me happy, sad, I love watching it. A few lines here and there said by important people, I've taken advice from. 2D characters are deep.

Wow, the same thing happened to me. Like the SAME exact song. Creepy. It's weird though, if I hadn't started watching anime, I would probably be a totally different person right now, all though I think all of us would be different. I made like 20 more friends at school because of anime. I guess it was the better choice, since I would probably be bored out of my mind right now. If I didn't watch anime, I wonder what I'd be doing? Probably staring at a wall XD

I can't understand, how does the anime ruin the social life? I mean, for me it's repaired my social life. Really, when I'm watching anime I'm watch the emotions, acts. I know it's not the same like in the real life, but they were a good example of the fact that something's not right with me. Watching a wonderful friendship in an anime or anywhere was a great feeling, and now I know, how it feels in the real life. Furthermore, I may say thanks to Anime because of my English and the development of my informatics knowledge too. If I don't start to watch anime, I might never have learned to edit images, and improve my English skills. I became much more open-minded, and much more presistent. I do not think that this would be really close to the anime, but a little bit for sure. I think it only had positive impacts on me, I don't consider this issue so embarassing, I talk about it at any time, and I'm proud of it. :) I hope you clearly understand it, this is my first long post in English. :)
