Watching anime?

For me my first anime was DBZ and it was beyond weird watching it for the first time. I jumped in at the Frieza Saga and Frieza's design just kept me laughing the whole day.

Ronin Warriors, Sailor Moon, and DBZ all in the same block on Toonami back in the day and Pokemon came soon after. I loved anime before I knew what anime was.

The first anime I ever saw (before I knew what anime or Japan was) was Superbook. I was about...4 or 5, I guess? It...it's not like it's s-something I'm proud of...BAKA!

During my ever so eventful youth in the early 90s, I was exposed to various forms of anime on TV networks, still not actually knowing what form of entertainment it was. Dragon Ball Z was circulating on FOX along with Sailor Moon somewhere between '91 and '93, but it was not until walking into a random video store in 1996 (and discovering the anime that would pull me into the world of Lina Inverse) that I finally understood what I had been missing out on. I also discovered manga in my public library around the same time. It's been a roller coaster ride ever since.

Edit: My only regret is that there wasn't more available to me before I turned 10. It wasn't until the later 90's that my anime fanboyism really took off.

My first time was a bit awkward, I was finished 2 minutes after taking it out.

I don't remember if it was Pokemon or Dragon Ball, but either way I was too young to know what anime is.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

I don't really remember first hand. First anime was My Neighbor Totoro on VHS. Parents got it for me as a baby and I grew up on it. Mom says I would watch it multiple times a day though lol.

No knowing it was anime- actually started with Card Captor Sakura before anything else.

Knowing it was anime- good old Yu Yu Hakusho, saw it some years after Card Captor Sakura and by then i had seen Pokemon, Digimon, Part of DBZ, and some Sailor Moon (which i disliked).
But Yu Yu was the first one to make me appreciate the medium and love it. The rest of the adult swim block had Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, and Outlaw Star too :)

My first anime was Alfred J. Kwak and it was amazing. A little clumsy at first, but I closed my eyes and we took it from there. He knew what he was doing and touched all the right spots.

Cardcaptor Sakura or Pokemon.

I only figured out that I saw Cardcaptor Sakura when I recently watched it and it felt familiar (especially the episode with the tree growing in Sakura's house!)

Sheesh, you could've worded that a little better OP.

OT: My first anime would be Pokemon back when I was in 5th or 6th grade. My anime craze started when I was in 9th grade and it started with Code Geass and Darker Than Black.

Back in 2004, my Japanese friends showed me a hentai scene. It practically scarred me for life.
But yea.. after that I started finding out about normal anime too, and I enjoyed it.

I earliest anime I can remember (and the first I've ever discovered, I believe) was Pokemon episode 5. I was shocked at how different it was from ever other cartoon I've seen. I wasn't even old enough to attend school, so seeing Pikachu getting hurt by Onix was scary because I was so use to every other American kid-cartoon.

Either Yu-gi-oh! or Pokemon. They were both very enjoyable at the time, but I believe I played the card game/played the video games first. I definitely liked them more than regular cartoons, and they probably led me into liking anime.

The first anime I watched where I knew it was an anime was Naruto. It is still my favorite today despite its flaws.

I watched Pokemon on TV before I knew what anime really was, like the first few seasons and I absolutely loved it. I also watched Tokyo Mew Mew as a kid, and Spirited Away. Those were my first anime.
When I went to look up the shows I watched back then, I found myself aware of anime for the first time and went on to watch Elfen Lied. It was stupid really, considering I was only 13, but it really changed my perspective of anime and I thoroughly enjoyed it, and have enjoyed watching it ever since.
