THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Whoa that's a lot of competition from all over the world.

TACO. Great to see all the cast back again in this. Dat fan service. I wonder if BD will remove the mist. Anyways, decent set up episode so far. I liked the episode especially with some of the intensity going on. I mean, those glowing eyes..

Wahaha

Finally time for the Nationals Arc! Loving to see all the characters animated especially those from Eisui. Also nice to see the original cast and those from Achiga again~

The manga though didn't finish the nationals arc nor does it look like the arc will be concluded anytime soon so I'm interested in seeing where the anime will end.

And so my winter anime season begins.

Interesting place to start the first episode from.

Episode of pure build-up to start with... Some of which was in the manga, but quite a lot of it was new. They seem to be placing a slightly different emphasis to the manga, but I can see why, from knowing what happens.

VAs seem to be doing a good job, even if some of them are a bit different to how I imagined them. But that always happens.

Saki's ability to get lost is second to none.

Some references to events in Achiga-hen of course, as the two are running parallel to one another time-wise.

I spotted Usuzan.

I just read all the way till the Semi-finals on the manga, missed how the anime builds up the tension though, plus seeing the characters move is always a huge plus!

Even though I just read it, I don't remember Saki seeing the girls from Achiga on the manga, but still love how both Achiga and Saki saw each others' fearful strength in each other, makes me all excited.

Also love Nodoka's "Ari desu ne!" comment on Saki's skirt, this series can't be complete without it's yuri after all =w=
Also epic to have Kanbara's "Wahaha" back, it is always great to listen to!

Can't wait for the Mahjong to start, and I seem to recall the synopsis on MAL said the are gonna re-animate the Mixed Training Camp, definitely looking forward to that~

Other than that, great to have the rest of the characters back, they're as lovely as ever on the anime.

Now the painful week-long waits began, wahaha

The long awaited mahjong sequel is finally here.

Great to see the Kiyosumi and Achiga girls again, and a large variety of new characters.

Can't wait for the first mahjong game.

It was in the Achiga manga, but the main one only showed Saki getting lost.

After all, Achiga didn't exist at that point.

The mystery of long skirt was solved!
It was kind of "Eh, why is she wearing long skirt?" when I for the first time had read Achiga-hen.

When they pass throuhgt From Saki view of imagination Achiga look like a emotionless machine.
Pretty much the same the other way thought.
I can pretty much figure out that first episode will be some kind of introduction episode between the character to get that refreshment feel from previous season.
Thought I want to see a mahjong match right away.

You were not the only one that thought Toyone should have a bit more mature voice.

WAHAHA

...it's a new season of Saki.

I hope the anime, which is 26 episodes long, will complete the group stages section, which has been finished in the manga.

Well this episode was amusing, we got lots of information about the team which are participating at the tournament.

Saki is such a beast, i really like her, dunno why tough she is very very cool!

I'm looking forward for Shoujo-Ai, i hope they put at least a bit in, to satisfy my desire!

Also the Onsen episode was really nice, and a big surprise that everybody is again there.

Looking forward for the next episodes

I don't understand this game one bit, and there remember the characters poorly even while in the middle of a season, but I'm totally psyched for more Saki!!

The bath house scene surprised me actually, though. Was there fanservice in the previous seasons? I simply don't remember any, or maybe I just don't associate Mahjong and fanservice very easily.

Mysteriously floating towels is new to me though. Kudos.

Yep there were quite a few bath/onsen scenes in the first season such as in the final episode.

Finally so many familiar faces back, woo~

Liked how they showed Saki's encounter with Achiga from the opposite perspective as well, was pretty interesting

Can't wait to see the actual games, I honestly found them a lot more enjoyable to watch in the original anime compared to when I read the manga due to all the crazy special effects and shit, should be fun ^^

Still not sure exactly how far they will actually animate for these 13 eps but the more the merrier

Ah, this makes me happy. I was pissed when it got changed to 1 cour. I had no idea how they would finish Nationals in that short of time. I haven't read the manga, but I'll have to after this season I guess!

be warned, reading the manga is awfully frustrating... because you get like 15 pages once per month t.t

hence why we only get a 1-cour despite it being many years since the first season adaptation

^^This. While Shizu hasn't hit her stride yet, Saki, very similar to Koromo, can feel her footsteps, particularly since Saki has the best instincts (coming from playing against her sister) of all the players out there; this scene captured it well, Saki felt it but wasn't sure what it was yet.

Nice opening, re-introduces main characters, gives a brief run down of the 7 or so other pertinent teams, gives us more of my favorite announcing duo, weaves in Achiga, and sets us up for non-stop Mahjong from here on out. As they said, let the games begin.

You will have to wait a long, long time before Saki vs teru, since they won't meet until the inviduals. And they will only animate the quarter finals this time.

Maybe around 2017/8, if we are lucky.

Wahaha. I missed that laugh so much! So good to see them all again T____T

It's only 24 minutes but it felt like a 40-minute OVA with all the stuff showed. In short, it's deliciously packed.

And that Hisa x Mihoko bit in the ED. OTP.

Hell yeah! It's been a long wait to get those nationals animated, even though it isn't going to be the entire nationals if I recall correctly. It's great to see the cast again. I'm looking forward to those matches.

Lil' question here : Should I watch Achiga-hen right now or it's not really important and I could just watch it after this season is finished? Thank you.

Favorite part. I watched Saki season 1 with a friend a while back and she insisted there's no proof. Well this episode proved it.

I'm so glad Saki's back, I missed this show a lot.

Too bad they probably won't go beyond the quarter since it is 13 episodes only.

But hey, as long as it gets a sequel in due time, I ain't even mad.

Kinda disappointing that even the uncensored version has no nipples. Barbie doll anatomy at its finest(?) ... why even censor if they have nothing to cover up?

Nice introductory episode, after several years off it was good to get re-introduced to the characters from last season as well as our main team. I'd forgotten all about Saki's oppai girlfriend, lol. She's pretty soft-spoken so I'm not surprised I forgot about her and not, say, Taco-fang or Korono. I still don't understand a thing about mahjong, but it's fast-paced and exciting enough that I don't really need to. Plus this series is at least as much about the cute girls as it is the mahjong.

5/5, will definitely be watching this season.

EDIT: And yes, it is nice to see that the conspicuous lack of panty shots is indeed because she doesn't wear any, lol. I imagine being around her busty girlfriend all day would drench any she did wear ;)

I missed my weekly dose of Saki that's for sure. Glad they included the meeting between the demon...I mean Saki and the Achiga girl's. I still find that commentator to be way too obnoxious though. +10 points for the skirt explanation, loved that. 4/5.

When I rewatched Saki not so long ago, I noticed that in the last episode we already had a line-up.

The signs look nicer :)

I think this time it is mastered in at least 720p. I hope we don't have horrible BDs for this arc.

The worst retcon ever killed this episode for me.

Thankfully I got to see other schools from side B so it wasn't that bad. Still, what could be magnificent dropped down to mere 'okay'.
