I can honestly see why otaku would think it's like the greatest thing ever, it's really accessible at a lowest common denominator level and yet on the surface appears to have really witty, insightful and clever dialogue but it becomes quickly apparent that the writer of this story just likes to have characters drone on and on and on about memetic nonsense and fanservice scene after fanservice scene then maybe you get one episode an arc that is relevant to anything in the long term. I find that everything is largely carried by the chemistry of the voice actors who honestly do their best with the kind of dialogue they're given. It also sexualizes the hell out of it's characters like just about no TV franchise I've ever seen and pushes the limit which of course gets people slobbering and clamoring about the "genius" of specific fan service scenes. When you combine all of the above into a show with pretentious dialogue where very little seems to happen (the pinnacle of anime storytelling for many these days) you basically get your typical pandering Aniplex type series that appears to have everything the modern anime fan wants. Seriously people eat this kind of shit up, it's been proven time and time again so yeah like the person above me says I totally get why this is popular with certain types. It's essentially become a rallying point for hardliner fanboy types and people that need to band together in order to feel like they have better taste than everyone else similar to how Haruhi was in 2006. Personally I find the franchise insufferably pretentious and honestly not really all that interesting in terms of the exchanges the characters have and that's just to start with what I find wrong with it. A lot of it is just really bizarre fetish stuff and honestly pretty elementary grade story telling even when it's at it's best which isn't very often. |

The dialogue is pretty much always focused on the events of the arc and the relationship between characters. The only reason people think it's pretentious is because one conversation between characters can end up lasting almost a full episode and people automatically think "hurdur this anime is pretentious cuz long dialogue, 10deep5me" when it's miles away from pretentious. tsudecimo said: I agree, I think she showed up ONCE in the Second Season and then that was it.
