maybe because you were already expecting an emotional scene in which you will cry. Expectations lessens the experience

It really was not that sad...

They get to move on, good for them, nothing to cry about.

Although it's my second favorite series, I didn't cry at the end of episode 13 either (Episode 10 is the one that got me). It would have worked if we get to know a lot about the characters.

Same. It was sad at the end when the girl ( forgot her name) Disappeared and he was like clawing at the air.

I didn't cry either. Though the show did pull my heartstrings in a couple places. Only problem was that it was a rushed anime. 17-18 episodes would have been more fitting.

No you not the only one. Although i thought Angel beats was a great anime. I think that the sudden '' love you scene/dram scene'' came kind of out the blue. They didn't gave it a back story. If they did, this scene would have much more value since it was well made.

I teared up a BIT, but that's it. Really, the show's execution really prevented me to properly connect with the characters.

It's so over exaggerated it's ridiculous. I couldn't stop facepalming at the forced drama.

maybe it's kind of harsh (sorry), but it seems tear-jerking anime is not fit for you...

I honestly don't remember if I cried or not, I don't think I cried in the scene where the white haired girl vanishes. But I know I didn't cry at Iwasawa's. Neither Yui's, but it was sad. I don't know about the ending though, I think I might of cried there.

But to be honest, I don't remember.
Personally, I know when scenes in anime are supposed to make you cry and usually don't make me cry, simply because it wasn't strong enough. I'm a sensitive guy but for drama scenes to make me cry on them they have to be really strong like Clannad After Story, but really nothing beats Clannad AS in making people cry.

The way I see it is, that I'm proud that I at least understood that it was a scene that was supposed to make people cry even though I didn't cry in it.
So don't sweat it. Nothing wrong with not crying on a sad scene, at least you knew it was sad and cried inside. That's how I see it.

This is exactly how I felt in the end. And about the ending, oh my god. I like how they suddenly forgot all the other characters in the ending to make some space for Angel and the boy-whose-name-I-can't-remember. They had built up this little romance for the boy and the red hair girl through the show, only to throw it away in the end. Bleh.

The ending is not tear-jerking material, to be honest.

However, what did affect me was the way Otonashi died. Not to the point that I was moved to tears, but it was quite emotional.

Feels may vary with every "sad" anime or anime ending. If you focused on how sad the fate of Kanade and Otonashi was, of course you'd be teary-eyed. Meawhile, if you focused on how forced the drama was, obviously you wouldn't cry now, would you? Factors still apply of course like if you were spoiled or if someone told you to "prepare because the ending's really sad and it'll make you cry." Trust me. I've been there.

Are you saying I should try to not to think about how forced the drama is, so that I can enjoy something better? That's not really how it should go. If I think it's forced, then it is forced. I shouldn't try to lie to myself so that I like the show better.

I think the ending was pretty emotionally taxing, considering the ambiguity of their circumstance was wide enough to hit home for just about anyone. Didn't shed a tear, though.

Of course you shouldn't lie to yourself. What I was trying to say was that everyone deals with everything differently. Some people cried to Angel Beats while others didn't. I was just explaining that fact in greater detail. You don't need to cry to it to enjoy the anime yourself. Anime touches our hearts differently and that's what's important.

The ending was really bad. But the series itself was kind of emotional at points. The saddest scene for me was Yuzuru's death.

This show was good but it was seriously overhyped. I had it in my plan to watch list for a couple of months and read all these reviews and comments saying how emotional and good it was.

If anything this show was more comedy than it was emotional. I felt it it was poorly integrated together. What annoyed me most was the poor use of the AMAZING soundtracks in this show.

Exactly, going into a series chanting "it's supposed to be sad it's supposed to make me cry" is just going to take away the element of surprise and it's like bracing yourself for a 10 foot dive into the pool instead of someone pushing you in without warning.

Personally Angel Beats had its moments but crying would give it too much credit. It was way too vague and underdeveloped to make any real impressions and relied a good deal on sad music to drive down the emotional impact.

it was not a sad anime...it was an anime with some "moments" that may catch you unexpected and make you feel strange...if you didnt cry its because of the environment and the mindset when you watched it first time...

I agree with you, I didn't feel that it was a particularly sad anime. That and the ending left me more confused than crying.

Angel Beats failed to make me cry as well. Air caught me off guard and left me depressed for 3 days. I laso shed tears in Kanon and Clannad.

I'm also expecting a crying scene in Little Busters: Refrain, and it really got me in episode 11.

Maybe it's just because of lack of character development and the confusing story which hold back my tears in this one.

It was one of the first anime I ever watched so it all caught me by surprise, especially the whole deal with Yui and the ending.
However, I do feel it could have been so much more if it was longer. Quite a bit of lost potential.
