Does anyone know a good forum site for webcomics? Most forums I've looked at seem quite dead. I'm thinking that there may be a strong webcomic subcategory in a forum somewhere, kind of like Pojo is for yugioh.

So uh....2 questions.
First: Where can I get a decent pair of headphones that won't break the bank? I want a new pair, but I can't dish out $100 for a decent pair of headphones. Also, it needs to be at a store. Assume I can't buy online.

Second: Well....I started posting on 4chan and someone said they googled my username and told me what websites I've been to and to leave before they ruin my life.
Should I take that with a grain of salt or take that seriously? I purposefully use the same username in most places but that kind of scared me.

1. I am no expert on headphones but if you are asking for earphones, then i might offer you some decent ones that is under your budget.

2. Take it seriously since it is 4chan. Anyway, this is the net. Everything can happen. Depending on how much information you share on the net, anything including your name, phone number, e-mail address, etc. will be known by someone. If you are fine with your personal information being spread around the net, then, it is not a problem.

I'm bushed. I just finished driving six hours across the state and back again to pick up my wife's nephew at the naval base, where he is staying for a few weeks on tour of duty.
Due to his age, I figured he'd be interested in anime. Surprise: nope. Not the slightest. I'm thinking that perhaps he has a 'stereotype' image of what anime might be, and based on that, judged that he wants no part of it. He's going to be staying with us for 2-1/2 days, starting now, and I'm debating with myself whether to even bother. The ironic thing is he is studying Japanese, so I thought anime would be a great way for him to immerse himself in the culture just a bit.

I'm sure lots of folks here have dealt with this kind of situation, a relative who doesn't share our passion. Should I even bother to try to introduce him to some quality anime, or should I just forget the whole thing and let him hang out with the wife and sister in law and sing karaoke and watch movies all holiday?

Are you retarded? Anime isn't even watched by every Japanese in Japan. It's not even an important aspect in Japan. It's not as popular as you think it is plus I wouldn't say it's the best for portraying the Japanese culture at it's fullest potential either. I don't believe it's ironic at all. I believe you should let him decide what interests he has and which ones he doesn't. This is a stupid question.

Don't make the poor kid like something that is bound to result in bullying from his peers.

Well I mean, if he's vocal about it.

Don't go making people go watch anime.

Just because I have a schoolgirl loli fetish doesn't mean I try to get people to cosplay for me.

A grade schooler in the military? They recruit them young these days.

He's in the Navy, not grade school. Seems most folks are a bit more open to the idea, but based on the response here, I probably won't bother with it.

Yup, a lot of Japanese aren't into it either, I know. Being Asian doesn't mean you're automatically an anime fan. I get it.

LOL on the suggestion to kill him now. I think the issue may be deeper than just a dislike of anime.. I recently learned his politics are the polar opposite of mine, and so far he's not been all that friendly, so maybe he's giving me the cold shoulder treatment. Or, more likely, he's just tired and basic training was probably affecting his mood. Just a bit disappointing. Was hoping he'd be interested and that we could enjoy watching. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Maybe he just doesn't like cartoons. Try Pacific Rim, Dog Soldiers, Gladiator, Cabin in the Woods, Lord of War, or Memento.

Or just praise Thad Castle in Blue Mountain State.

I never expect people of any age to be interested in anime, so that doesn't really surprise me. It does surprise me a bit more that he's studying Japanese and doesn't like anime considering I'm studying Japanese and a good majority of my class either did or does watch anime. Try asking about his interests in movies or books or tv shows or whatever he's more into, and then suggest an anime or two that might fit those genres, but don't push it on him. Good luck. ^^

Maybe it's country-specific. Used to be, when I first got interested in it, anime was such an obscure interest, but now that it's becoming more mainstream, I figured more people, especially the Asian side of my family, would be open to it as an entertainment option.

Anyway, he's a culinary specialist (a cook) in the Navy, as his training goes. I haven't found anything in common with him at all, so far. My wife and I noted he has the perfect voice for voice over character dubbing, too. He's like a young version of Tony Oliver and has that "Rick Hunter" type voice from Robotech, soft and gentle, caring. But he has stated he has no interest in getting work as a voice over person when he returns to California. So frustrating, but that's how he rolls.

I need to do some... swindling, let's say.

I have to tell my family what major I'm choosing when I'm transferring universities, but they'll only accept a "major that gets a job".

I'm not sure what major that is.

The swindling comes in when I get work credentials (my teaching ones) regardless of what major I choose, because I only need to take 2 credential-specific classes.

Anyway, help me out MAL. "Biology" and "Chemistry" don't work, by the way. But STEM (science technology engineering mathematics) in general are okay.

You have it reverse. You decide on a job, and pick a major (or other means of training) that gets you that job. Then you try, because if you don't, you will not get anything, and will be out of time and money.

Parental logic doesn't work that way.

And like I said, I'm going for teaching. Which I can do regardless of major.

The major issue with today's society is that most people are building their life goals upon remunerative grounds, aiming all for money and it's derivatives : They're slaves to capitalism.

Today's youngsters engage in careers that are in a complete contrast with their skills and abilities, and opt under pressure for something that is per say, financially rewarding. Preposterous.

Man, pick a field in which you think you can deploy the paroxysm of proficiency, don't let your parents interfere with your life decisions, and pursue your ideals. Money opportunities will indubitably rise in the future, granted you're good at what you do.

Well the site I've been using is Animefave.net
It post all the new shows a few hours after airing with subs and has a fairly large library of older shows and movies also. The quality is also very nice with good sub font. It lists the genres and ratings ( I would use MAL though and read the reviews don't think it has this) and finally it has a top anime list most of it is filled with detective canon crap though.

I use KissAnime.com. It's high quality, organized, and there's no annoying ads. They regularly update with the seasons shows and have a large collection of past anime as well. I would use MAL for the latest news regarding anime and such.

I was wondering if someone here could help me out. I need to know the proper translation for "God is Dead" into romaji. Thanks in advance.

Note: I used google, but have about 4 or 5 different phrases, so I'm looking for someone who is bilingual and actually knows the answer. Thanks.

I think it's "Kamisama ga shinimashita" in a polite form and "Kamisama ga shinda" in a normal form.

Kami wa shinda according to:

I think there are multiple correct translations and that they just have different connotations. (I'm no expert though)

So given the choice of having $150 dollars (US) what would you do...

Rant:
I wanted to buy fate/zero for collection sake but the price is a killer so I was wondering what will you do if you were in my shoe. Considering I have to ship over to my country which cost about $20.

Prices:
Dvd - $69.98 + $59.98
Blu ray - $149.98 + $139.98

I didn't knew buying a single anime would cost more than 150 dollars. 150 dollars is more than half of Brazil's minimum wage. Seriously, are you guys insane? You can download the damn blu-ray version.

OP, if you really want to discard 150 dollars like that, buy the blu ray. If you buy the DVD version, you can buy two anime.

Aniplex is insane on setting high prices ask them.

Btw I think I'm not buying well because you could take that money and stay in a budget hotel in Japan with 3 meals for about 2 days. (Excluding air flight)

You should probably realize that 99% of us don't live in Brazil so it's hardly relevant. And the fact that you're able to watch anime in the first place because of the people who are buying merch. Many others have more disposable income to spend on stuff they want. Not that I disagree with your statement that a lot of the media can get quite expensive.

i'm assuming you are buying new? why don't you wait and buy used? i know some people are purists about having new copies, but you can usually get great discounts on used

only other advice: let the idea swim around in your brain for a bit. Theres no deadline (even though i'm sure you want it NOW). Sometimes its good to reflect on a purchase before you buy. Right now I'm considering buying Megazone 23, but I know I should wait - too implusive.

About getting a used copy I think its a good idea I got quite a number of music albums at home and some of them are used. Its in good condition so I might consider that option.

I use a raspberry pi with OpenELEC running on it..I usually watch in on my tablet, though...

The advantage is that you can control OpenELEC via your Phone or Tab.

Oh and btw..don't forget headphones..you don't want non-otakus to hear high pitched female japanese anime voices.

Well, what I meant was that I already have kind of switched from my laptop to my TV, so I'm not asking how to switch (I just use my 360 and my external hard drive), but it doesn't feel right for whatever reason, and I figured maybe I'm doing something wrong :/ I mean it's pretty weird if I prefer my small laptop over my 40 inch TV, right? And yeah, kind of got the earphone thing covered with some earphones and an earphone extension cable plugged into my TV (headphones are really uncomfortable for me).

An awesome anime themed magazine that also won't cause my parents to flip out (since I still live with them, and my dad usually gets the mail)? I can't have something showing up with ecchi images on the front cover. And no hentai.

I used to have subscriptions to Shoujo Beat and Shounen Jump several years ago, but I'm looking for something that focuses more on anime. I used to pick up a copy of Newtype at the mall whenever it was available, but last I remember, they stopped publishing new issues. Same goes for Anime Insider. Looks like Otaku USA may be the only magazine still available that I remember reading before. I'll probably go with that unless someone finds something better.

I'm also looking for something that publishes in English. There are several intriguing anime themed magazines I've discovered online, but none were available in English. For now I'd like to subscribe to something that will give me updates about upcoming anime, or that at least covers some that have finished airing. I won't be able to gather that kind of information if the magazine isn't in English.

Anything that also includes trinkets for subscribers would be excellent, since I'm a fan of anime posters, CDs, collectables, and surprises.

Ah so that was your question.
Well to answer that: I wasn't really to able to adapt, too..

I still prefer a smaller screen with a higher pixel density, I don't know why..
It just feels weird. Anime isn't something you watch on a big screen somehow ^^

I know I don't help you but maybe you feel better if you know someone has the same problem :D
