Make sure to spoiler tag it when you quote him to.

On behalf of VN readers and anime-viewers, I really wish you would stop mentioning or hinting future events that have not taken place yet or at least use spoiler tags for them. I've been spamming the report button every week and a hand full of them is for comments like " When they do this scene and that scene in Refrain etc" which hasn't taken place yet.

Also it's fun to read people's speculations so we shouldn't confirm or deny what ever they come up with. If they believe Kyousuke is good or evil let them believe it. If they believe Lennon is actually Kyuubey in disguise, let them believe it.

Well said, egnaro.

I didn't find a problem with the Haruka Kanata Instrumental usage in the anime. Parting of the Boys, Haruka Kanata Instrumental, Little Melody, Song for Friends Instrumental get used often in the anime/VN, and it's not really an issue so long as it fits well. When you think about it, the VN music is even more repetitive given that there were less tracks to work with and they were all used more often, due to the length being longer.

K, back to studying. P.S. my avatar is awesome.

I didn't get why Kengo got so furious all of a sudden and started punching Kyousuke. What did he mean by "cheap tricks"?

You'll figure that out on the next few episodes.

It would be spoilers if I explain it now.

I heard that from next episode it will be the Refrain proper. Since Kurugaya, Kud and Haruka are all gone, does it mean that these girls will not show up in Refrain at all (except I guess the ending) ?
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

At least I finally got the punch scene, looks like even JC Staff managed to at least do this one thing right. Rushed like hell 2/5.

Don't forget kids, if you can't defeat your opponent, use a dirty trick and declare your victory!

There are very few anime characters I hate more than Kyousuke.

Just watch this video review so that you can understand everything, because this is an important episode.

Start at 30 seconds, in case the link doesn't do it already.

If that's too much for you, I can reply with some explanations of the main plot points or something, but that video does it better than I could.

I feel that if everyone analyzed it was well as this, even with the shit/rushed pacing, people could get a lot out of the show. People are calling forced drama and not even considering that there's still a lot of appreciable content being packed into the episode.

Oh and I don't even know why this is all happening.

Riki: no matter what, I must protect Rin!
Riki (1 minute later): I realized I was too weak to protect Rin.

Eh, that went super-fast... I am not sure if I like it. Country trip deserved at least half of the episode. It was the place where Rin and Riki got together. I wonder if anime-only viewers understands anything from this fast turn of events.

I really worry that they make only those interesting parts leaving out those important moments that have the most impact on character motivations and delopement. In process of trying to speed everything up to Refrain they forgot that sometimes the path is the more important than the end. Somewhere along the way they are slowly losing whole idea of this story.

I've talked to anime-only viewers. They had no problems understanding what needed to be understood given this episode. Honestly, JC Staff is doing pretty great. The pacing isn't as bad as people make it out to be.

The pacing can be bad if people decide "Oh, wow, this baseball game and runaway came out of no where. I didn't see the antagonism of Kyousuke building up over the last two episodes, the tension of his scheme and its effects on Riki, and Kengo's opposition to it all. I'm just not going to pay attention to any characterization this episode or even try to figure out character motives, and call it force drama."

If you actually pay attention to the character motives, it's not really that bad. Events come quickly, but they shouldn't be as utterly random and forced as people claim they are.
The entire episode 6 was a test of Riki's strength. Did you guys even watch episode 26 of last season, where Kyousuke says "Become stronge. Surpass me, Riki."

And why did the baseball game happen? Gee, when Kyousuke created the Little Busters baseball team, and they've been practicing for about half the episodes of the show, and everyone is on the team, what would be the logical way to try to oppose Kyousuke's plan? Talking with him won't work. Kyousuke is set on his plan and didn't stop when Riki brought up its effects on Rin. The only way to do it was the way Kyousuke mentioned in the first season: by proving that he's stronger, and the medium was baseball. When Kengo tells Riki to oppose Kyousuke, Riki believes he isn't strong enough, and Kengo intervenes in Kyousukes' plan in order to help even the odds.
Kengo of course tries to help Riki out, but Kyousuke cheated in the game anyway.

Therefore, Riki decides that this group of friends that Kyousuke built up isn't where Riki belonged. He rebelled against Kyousuke's scheme he's been plotting since the first episode of the first season, and ran away with his sister.
With Kyousuke in control of Rin's situations at school, the only logical way was to run away, and that's what Riki did.

People just think it's forced drama because this episode transcended stereotypical expectations. The audience expects everything to be straightforward, and the bros in Little Busters to have a straightforward opinions and be open about everything. The fact that people are actually complaining that Kyousuke cheated, just shows how ignorant they are in terms of trying to comprehend a narrative. Why couldn't Riki just call the game as unfair? Because if he did, Kengo wouldn't try to push the issue with how Kyousuke cheated, and Riki would be left opposing Kyousuke's ruling of the game by himself.

Still, I hope the revelations of Refrain get people to stop being completely oblivious to what's going on. As of now, there are plenty of people that are equating the idea of "Not knowing what's going on" with "forced drama".

The events are going by at a quick pace, and I guess people just don't even try to pay attention to all the dialogue and characterization. The main melodramatic part of the season was the quick romance and struggles between Riki and Rin, but if you realize that Kyousuke and the others were all forcing the romance between them, and that Riki was siding with Kyousuke's plan for Rin to become stronger, not realizing the effects it would have on her, then there shouldn't really be an issue.
As for Riki and Rin getting caught quickly, you could call it forced drama, or you could call it a realistic depiction for when someone breaks into someone's house and tries to live there.

And forced narcolepsy? Riki's narcolepsy has always triggered at specific times in the anime due to his emotional tension, not just due to a plot convenience. Regardless, they were caught.

So overall, I think most of the issues can be solved by people getting to Refrain and realizing what the whole point of the story is, and seeing why the characters acted the way they did. There's some degree of character attachment that's going to be lost in the anime, and a lot of people probably won't realize what's going on, because they're not used to watching a show that has ascertainable depth.

And to address another issue I think people have brought up:
"Why are the girls disappearing, and why are all the bros behavior suddenly changing?"

The girls are gone because their story arcs have been completed, and that's part of Kyousukes' plan. Komari stays regardless for reasons I won't mention yet, and Rin, Kyousuke's sister, is the only one left. The clock is ticking down. The bros initially supposed Kyousuke's plan for Riki to become stronger through helping all the girls before they disappeared, and Rin's plan to become more sociable through the Secret of the World missions. Now Kengo, siding with Riki and against Kyousuke, realizes that Kyousuke's going at his plan too harshly, and opposes him. Masato remains a neutral party, and only filled in for the baseball game as a placeholder, though he's driven by his rivalry with Kengo. There are several times in the episode that indicate his neutrality.

Soooooo yeah. I managed to explain nearly every plot point using evidence from the anime. JC Staff can be blamed for rushing the events, but not for them being forced and not making sense. They might "feel" forced if you have no clue what's going on, and in that case, I'd recommend to rewatch the show after it finishes airing.

I'd agree, but the parts during Riki and Rin's escape just weren't that important. They spent about an hour fishing, working on a farm, playing with cats and sleeping. They kept in the important part of it which was Riki realising he wasn't strong enough to protect Rin and then the police officers breaking in and taking them away. Not only that, but it was because of the end of Rin2 that a bunch of VN players came to dislike Rin, because she wouldn't give up her bloody cats and bit Riki's hand to get to them. So overall, I think they made some pretty good decisions overall.

They just need to reinforce the ending of Rin 2 next episode, because the end of it pretty much drives the entirety of Refrain.

I just hope people can take it seriously given how rushed it was.
I don't think it'll be detrimental to the anime, and I feel like LB Refrain could probably go high, but the critics who want a more natural-feeling and realistic experience might not get it. The characterization is good and precise, but at like 3-5x the pacing, and JC Staff cutting a lot of the best dialogue for no real reason, I can't see character attachment being as consistently high as it was in the VN, and I can see the climax of Refrain being taken as a joke by a lot of people at this rate. They'd have to do the next 5 episodes incredibly well, and it's JC Staff with their failures of directors. Tripling the pacing of the next 5 episode (22 mins compared to ~an hour each part in the VN) and trying to keep the impact is going to be incredibly hard. Still hoping that it's enjoyable.

Riki said "I'd forgotten that living meant losing.".

Refrain is the last route in the VN, like After Story for Clannad.

Is it just me or Kengo is finally returned to his original personality? Thank's God anyways, he is much cooler and awesome this way than a Masato rip-off he had become.

This is getting so sad.. Thank's God he has not forgotten the other girls. I nearly got teary-eyed there, I rarely get this emotional...

Kengo being the bro of bros this week. So it's Kengo/Rin vs Masato/Kyousuke. Oh that was Miyuki right.... I have a feeling that Kyousuke passed that flash through his mind...

Rin is underestimating Rin way too much. This episode gave me so much feels, like real feels! Seriously, it was so perfect... and I could everything. Friendship, love, reality...

So refrain is next, huh. I can see how big it is gonna be. Readying myself for the feels ride

So far, out of all of the episodes in this series, this presents the most drama and emotion. The bonds between the original Little Busters group is pushed to their very boundaries, and the decision to run away with Rin is a bold one. My only complaint is that I am unable to view the last few seconds of the show. Every feed I view, every single damn time, it freezes at the exact same place: just as it zooms in on Riki's face and the picture gets fuzzy. I can't even view the previews for the next episode, only the sound comes through. If any of you out there know of a feed that shows the whole kit and kaboodle, from the start to the end, without freezing up, please let me know.

So... why are they running away again instead of facing their problems?
And who in their right mind would decide to do a baseball game to settle that...
and that pacing is really glorious (not)

Riki would have to concede to Kyousuke's plan that he's clearly against, and let Rin continue to suffer. Riki already talked to Kyousuke and he's set in his ways. There is no other option without trying to involve other adults. There was more focus on alternative methods in the VN, but JC Staff cut that out, along with plenty of other stuff.

Baseball players settling a dispute with baseball? Who in their right mind would do that?

Pacing is shit because JC Staff, go figure. But hey, according to people like MCAL and Reckoner, this is actually better than the VN.

Let's see what you think. Imagine if the anime adapted the visual novel to include all of these events surrounding episode 6.

The pacing is now slowed down, and Kyousuke replaces Rin as the pitcher while she's away for the sister school. Riki continues to practice baseball against Kyousuke. each day, as Kyousuke pushes him to become stronger. The phone calls with Rin have time between them, showing that days are going by as she continues to become more pained by being away from her friends.

Riki has multiple talks with Kengo, and Riki plans to run away before the baseball game. Kengo warns him that there will be nothing of despair if he chooses that path. Riki reasons that there's no other option, and Kengo tells Riki that he'll help him to oppose Kyousuke and his plan. Naturally, since Riki has continued the baseball practices and is being urged by Kyousuke each day, the baseball game is a natural way to settle the issue. It's natural because Kyousuke is manipulative, and he can't be reasoned with. The only way he'll let Riki get a say in Rin's situation is if he proves his capability. The factor Kyousuke didn't account for was Kengo's interference, so he used a cheap trick in order to take him down and get his way. The fact is that the game as rigged from the beginning, and was never to give Riki a fair say in Rin's situation.

After the baseball game, the runaway happens, but Riki and Rin live together for about an hour's time (reading time, I guess this would've taken an episode in the anime if JC Staff wasn't JC Staff) and provides some believability for Riki and Rin's character. We see Riki struggling to provide for Rin, as he goes out and finds a job while Riki and Rin live at Kyousuke's grandfather's house. Said grandfather is not home, but they live there anyway. Riki works hard all day in the vegetable fields despite his narcolepsy kicking in, and Riki and Rin are running out of food and water. The bath scene with them together is because that's the last of the water available in their house. So, after all of these events and the struggle, the police break in and Riki and Rin are caught. Rin is shocked by the police, as it revives a past trauma, and Riki isn't allowed to see Rin again until the end of the semester.

At the end of the semester, Riki vows to become stronger, because he wasn't able to make the right decisions, and wasn't able to protect Rin, and regrets the state she has become in. Because of this, time resets to May 13th and he gets a chance to prove his resolve through the events of the Refrain arc (episodes 7-13).

So, for some reason, people actually believe that the piss poor pacing of episode 6 is better than the visual novel, because people MUST get to the Secret of the World as fast as possible, even if events are being utterly rushed through, character motives are being removed, and the story is losing its intended development. It's quite hilarious, actually.

If they are professional baseball players I'd understand it, but for something as important as that... A game is so easily lost, even if you're good/or even better than your oponent... I'd never 'bet' my special someone on an uncertain outcome.

What you wrote down actually sounds A LOT better.
I think I really need to play(read) the VN (I've already downloaded it, btw :3), as I'm really disappointed with how the adaption is going..

Wait... did they even mention in this episode that they went to his grandpas house?

Btw, do we get to know about the 'secret of the world' directly or are we supposed to figure it out... somehow...by ourselves?
I'm still kinda confused about it. I do understand that there are loops/different worlds and something usually triggers it...

Nope, they didn't that it was Kyousuk/Rin's grandpa's house.

Glad you enjoyed the reply.
I didn't even include some other character buildup and motives that were there. The anime made it seem like they were fighting over Rin, but her reaction to the whole situation was much more. She had ONE line in episode 6, so... yeah.

We get to know the Secret of the World explicitly by the end of the show. The impact of the Secret on each of the characters as they act throughout the story is where you'll have to speculate a bit, and link ideas together. The Secret essentially lets you see most of the story in a new light.

Anyway, the baseball game served its purpose as a conflict between the Little Busters, and there's more depth to it than more people think, that should hopefully be elaborated on in episodes 9 and 10. It was essentially a driving force for the events of Refrain. Kengo's opposition towards Kyousuke holds more significance the the face value event of helping out Riki. What the baseball event stands for by the end of the series more than makes up for how silly of an idea it is.

You also have to consider Riki's gullible personality, and past trust in Kyousuke and Kengo. Kengo and Kyousuke essentially offered Riki a way out of the scenario. Also, Kengo's not quite as injured as he seems, and him catching Kyousuke off guard with his skill in a 2v2 could've proved favorable if not for the cheap tricks. It's still a bad bet, but it was a battle of conflicting motives, and Kyousuke's motives proved to be stronger than his own pride.

I'd highly recommend reading the visual novel, or at least Rin and Refrain, before having more of the story butchered. I don't have faith that the next few episodes will come close to the VN, because most of what they've done with the series hasn't come close so far, aside from a few route endings. (but the buildup for each route suffered.)

Well, after re-watching the episode, I can't help to be a bit teary-eyed at the credits when they showed the little busters when they were kids. Looking at the kids, makes me wonder if they'll ever be like that again; friends that you can always count on and friends that will always be with you. And the music made it feel emotional IMO. I really love the little busters.

On another note, I guess I should finish reading the VN now before Refrain ends so that I'll get the best out of Refrain. I really love the characters and I want to know more about them. And also because VN players keep on saying that the adaptation is an abomination because of JC Staff

Quit telling us about it and read it already ;)
You'll get a lot more out of it, that is to say that you might not get nearly as much out of the anime as you're supposed to in the upcoming episodes.

Wow. So JC Staff totally just flew Rin2 over the anime viewers' heads without showing the essential parts. I don't care what the Rin2 haters are saying, but those bits during their runaway period being rushed over like that in the anime just isn't cool! What the hell, JC?!

Hah... you don't say. To be honest with you, I thought I was being rather nitpicky myself. I mean, the rushed bits did annoy me a lot as a VN player because I understood how crucial the 'farm/runaway' parts are to the overall story, but even I have to admit that they did pretty well up till this episode, all things considered. The entire series definitely felt more like an 'add-on' to the VN, but to non-VN players, I think this would still be a pretty tearjerking experience for them anyway.

I'm up to episode 11 so far, and it's obvious that J.C. focused more of their efforts on Refrain rather than the 'heroine routes', which kinda missed the point of the story (the journey being more important than the destination). But what the heck, it was pretty emotional anyway, and I thought they did the Kengo/Masato parts pretty well.
