I tried using the search engine and didn't find a thread like this.

Have you ever wanted to make an original game and thought of your own ideas, or have you ever actually made a game?

I've thought of some ideas, and typed a blog entry on one of them. It's also my dream job to be a game designer, but I've only thought a little of learning game designing in college.

So don't go off topic and turn this thread into a long discussion on game design school/career, because it makes me sad and I've heard enough about college.

Here is the blog entry with my game idea~

Heh all the time... I come up with game concepts as much as my hair... well not exactly but I do think about alot of new concepts for games. I sent Konami a letter after a user asked about the same question in another forum. They replied saying that they cannot accept to involve people who aren't unemployed by Konami due to legal issues.

Yeah I always wanted to create a game, although I've basically given up hope of actually making one. I was thinking of using XNA, but I'd probably get bored with it or goof off and never make anything playable.

i used to make some with RPG Maker when i was about 13 years old, tho one game i made ended up having a simular storyline to another game which i never played untill later to see and it was

also in programing when i was about 14 or 15 we had to make a game and it was a simple pong type game

oko za oko, zub za zub - eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth

I'd love to make a game but I'd be to lazy to actually make because of all the stuff I'd want to put in it.

Back when I was younger I made a few using those RPG Makers, each took forever and were pretty good considering how young I was. But each and every single one of them somehow fucked up and got deleted or corrupted, and after then tenth one I just moved on. Since then I haven't really wanted to make a game.

Tempting but it probably wouldn't work out all that great even if I could and tried.
Back when I had computer programming I made some kind of text based "choose your own adventure" like game which maybe doesn't count but it was fun at the time.

Oh man, the nostalgia. I totally remember doing stuff like that with friends after getting done the work we had to do. Those were some good times back in elementary school.

Grades 5-6. I drew maps, brainstormed, wrote up back stories, did game logic diagrams. All instead of paying attention in class. I'm still interested but... there are some things that I feel would fit me better in terms of career choices. I'm very uncreative and unimaginative, and I often over complicate my games which doesn't make for a good game at all.

because somebody needed to do it...

seriously though, i think in general people are becoming more interested in video game design, in the same way that more people are interested in movie making, etc. with each oncoming year. every year we see increasingly advancing markets, in quality and quantity of materials. i think those who were once unaware or interested in the subject may now find it a real avenue of interest. even my comprehensive and liberal arts college just introduced video game design programs. the problem is, in a saturated market--it's hard for all those newly trained engineers to make it into the industry (although the same goes for every one of those thousands of students coming out of college each year with directing degrees, for example.) it's pretty hard.

Jokingly, I would like to make an Episode IV to Xenosaga. There are a number of possible scenarios to continue the story, no matter how you look at it.

However, honestly.. No, I don't want to make my own game.

I often find myself thinking about how I would have made games that I've played and found to be lacking. I've thought of various stories to make Pokemon games feel like proper RPGs, how Spore could have been with more depth and more 4e gameplay and stuff like that.
I've also started various ambitious map-making projects for WCIII, but I've usually given up on it after a while.

I've made a couple small rpgs with Rpg maker 2000 and XP. I never really made a big one but I've always thought about someday getting a team together to work on one. It's one of the career choices at the moment.

I tried to make a concept of what an action rpg version of Pokemon would be like but I get frustrated in wondering how the more fish-like water pokemon will play like on land or should we place water battles on the beach. :X

Tried to make a sci-fi visual novel with a friend once. But then he faced a creative crisis (he was drawing the characters, scenes and pretty much everything else while I was responsible for the story and music), so the project failed.

I've been making small games and mods/maps for a long time pretty much all my life. First game I made was for the computer using b basic it was a one shot rpg battle style game. Only had one fight and no story but it was programing and I was very young, around 3rd grade if I remember correctly. Its something I think is fun to do, which reminds me maybe I should finish that rpg I started a few years ago. I have been cutting back on making games and modding/mapping reason number one is my computer is pretty old now and number two is I don't have as much free time to make them as a once did and number three I need to watch more anime :p .

same, in fact I've started on a few way back when, but never found the motivation to complete any of them.

But actually making a game, with all the programing and all... nty.
I would sure love to direct one though.
