| I have a 7.6 with 236 completed (would be 7.8 without Mars of Destruction + 5 minute doujinshi that I gave a 2). I wouldn't say I've seen nothing but top anime, rather I'm just able to enjoy the majority of what I watch. I don't really understand the last question though, the values are different because people have different tastes, preferences, and scoring methods. |

| No it isn't the same. Most people watch what is popular or what is on-going through the anime seasons. With that said, people who have spent a lot of time and watched a lot of anime have seen most of the popular anime series and the recent anime which aired so if their score is like 6 something they are putting each anime they watch on a much tougher scale than the person who has a average score close to 8. One for sure way to tell if a person grades tough or not, look at the number of 10's they have scored. Some people give a lot of 10's based on personal enjoyment. If less than 5% of a person's total watched is rated a 10 then you know they are probably grading each anime they watch based on how good they are compared to the 10's or 9's. I'm speaking from experience since I do that and I have friends who do that as well. I think I have like 180 completed tittles and I've only given 4 things a 10. |

| I think that between 5.5 and 8.0 is a good place to have your mean score. Lower than 4, why are you watching anime if you hate it all so much? Higher than 8.5 and I assume you're a fanboy/girl. |

| While everyone is entitled to their opinion, it is easy to judge high raters harshly, and give a slight amount of respect to those who agree with you. I myself rather see lower scorers for overrated Anime, but other than that they usually jut do it to do it. Not my place to judge though |

| I drop pretty much everything that I wouldnt rate atleast a 7, of course there are exceptions now and then. But yes that does explain my average of 7.8, even tough I wouldnt say I rate favorably but neither too harsch. I have simply lots of 8s and 7s. |

| I would guess that people that rate anime with an average of 8 just have lower expectations with the anime they watch. They tend to enjoy almost every anime they watch, like me. But that also means that when they really rate an anime low, they really hate the anime very very much. |
| My mean scores for are 5.48 (anime) and 5.98 (manga). I actually get messages with people asking me wether I actually enjoy anime or ranting that I gave their favourite cartoon 'only' a 6. The score 5 is labelled average in MAL's 'system' so I take 5 as average, this means that I think most manga I've read and anime I've watched are above average. People seem to have a hard time understanding this concept. Anyway what I'm trying to say is, if you want to take a users' rating scale seriously take a look at their average and start from there. E.g. if someone has a 7.5 average just handle their rating as if they're using a 5 star rating system with 2.5 being the average. If someone has a 8.5 average just imagine they're using a 3 point system with Mal's 7 being the lowest. If you just look at it like this there's no good or bad way to rate, they're all the same just with a different scale. |
| Everyone's score does contribute to the global average, that's why it's called GLOBAL. So, there's no need to label someone an 'anime hater' if his average is low or the opposite. Let people rate however whatever they want, just don't give any fucks.. |

If their overall scores are noticeably higher than my own, then I usually conclude that the great majority of their scores are near (if not) entirely preferential. If their scores are significantly lower, then I usually conclude that they can be (or are) overly cynical, prudent, some variation of mislead, preferential, or lacking dignified regards. |

| for higher than the average: I envy them, i wish i could like all the shit i watch as much as them, it reminds me of when i first started anime and i loved everything, so many things id give 10's and 9's then are currently at the 3 or 4 out of 10's now for significantly below average: They are just abusing the lower ratings |
