What animation do you watch that isn't anime?

I watch a few american comedies and some kid's shows.
Such as south park, family guy, fairly odd parents, avatar etc.
While the art is crap(avatar is alright art wise) and the stories often very weak, i still get a laugh out of it.

while the level of quality is far lower than that of japan some are still entertaining.

your thoughts?

South Park occasionally, and Simpsons back in the day.

In general, I'd say the typical American cartoons often tend to be funny, but I'd be in a pinch if I were to name any with proper story and drama like you'd usually find (to a varying degree of course) in Anime.

It's probably because of the different view on animation in general, I'd assume people in Japan would be more inclined to accept anime as "proper" entertainment on par with live action, whereas the mainstream in the west seem to think of it more as compatible with comedy only.

Crude humour is all they are good at, not only in animation.

^This. Pretty much the only decent American cartoons, unless you're counting movies. I'd have to include the old Disney stuff and Pixar.

I love Lilo and Stitch. And I keep meaning to watch the anime version of it.
I don't care what anyone says, Lilo and Stich is one of the best things Disney has released in YEARS.

Ever more blasphemous, I think it beats out some of their classics. That's right, I'm praising something new over something old.

Also, I tend to think that Scooby Doo was better than just about any of the anime at the time. Old American cartoons > Old Japanese animation. New Japanese cartoons > New American animation.

Not all non-Japanese animation is American, though. Some stuff can get pretty darn obscureish.

That's cause i take this thread as a combination of first 2 thread (the whole avatar talk only last half a page...) and i added the third thread for fun. You know it's just a matter of time before TV stuff in general gets dragged into this thread.

I have a hunch that i missed another thread but i just can't seem to get the keyword right..

I sometimes watch Nickelodeon or Jetix, but most of the cartoons have horrible quality, and going downhill..
To bad I don't have Cartoon Network, would love to watch some of those shows though it is mostly horribly dubbed in Dutch..

And retarded stuff from Cartoon Network.

Edit: I was forgetting my memories with Inspector Gadget and X-Men and Spiderman and the Carebears and the Little Ponies. Not to mention Disney "classics" and the Pink Panther. And some hilarious thing with a squirrel that passed as intermission during the hateful Animaniacs.

I used to watch the Simpsons and King of the Hill when I was still watching TV. I have also seen a few Korean animated movies, if that counts. Oh, and Disney. I still watch the Disney and Pixar films when they come out.

And sometimes I get stuck watching cartoons with my niece...mostly barbie movies though. I'm the only one in my family that is willing to sit down and watch them with her. X_X

Nothing non-japanese right now. Most of the Occidental animations lack both good plot and nice drawings. So I kinda gave up on those.

But I used to watch Disney's movies and cartoons with the Looney Tunes when I was younger.

None of those even count.

The first and second are old and the third is about non anime shows in general which includes live action.

Old 90's American cartoons were a lot better than the shit they have now. I watch mostly what's on Adult Swim and occasionally South Park. I keep on forgetting to watch Futurama.

As for American cartoons... I watch Simpsons, Futrama, South Park and Family Guy from time to time. And a couple of weeks ago I bought Persepolis on dvd.

Yet my favs are the old Disney movies, Asterix movies, and old Hungarian cartoons like this or this. My favs with a bit more deeper meaning are Animal Farm and Time Masters.

You know what, I'd have to agree with you there too. The early/mid-90's Disney movies are classics and Pixar's puts a lot of time and effort into their work unlike certain other companies *cough*DreamworksAnimation*cough*.

Now that I think of it, I'd have to add Batman: The Animated Series to my list of favorite animated shows. I still watch the DVDs from time to time and the show is just as good as it was when I was a kid. Freakazoid is pretty good too when you're in the right mood to watch it.

After reading some of the other posts in the thread, I really wish I had Boomerang just to watch some of the classics like Bugs Bunny.

The episodic plots, the weak humour, the silly art-styles.
