Plenty of cliches, which I enjoyed. I like "community coming together for a common good" and "faith in humanity" resolutions, also "friendship" and "power of teamwork" devices. A little more closure would be nice, however.

Regardless, it was a pretty great show.

Well that kind of just fizzled out. OD should have had more fight time. The logistics of this whole Galax/CROWDS system should have been explained better. Climax is Hajime calling her mom. I am disappoint.

Other than the destination, the rest of the journey was great. 8/10 from me.

Those who wanted some explanation of the last episode will be glad to know that the BD box will come with the "full ending." Basically they're going to put back the footage that was removed from the broadcast.

I just heard of this news elsewhere and was hoping I could find out if a sub group is going to pick up the BDs when they are released (in January I think). I'm going to keep an eye out but I haven't found anybody who said that they are going to do it so far.

Woaah I'm so late keke~ I wasn't so caught by this series in the beginning so I decided to watch it later (today). I really adored Hajime through the entire series I think she was the reason I kept watching.. or maybe was senpai too cute~ keke~

I was so confused by the ending so I decided to drop by the forum discussion to see what people's guesses were and WOAH you guys are so deep!! Thank you for sharing your opinions and thought I feel like I understand the ending now I and was able to rate it higher than originally thought. I still hope there will be some OVAs or maybe a second season just because I would like to see more to the characters and hopefully get some of my question answered officially from the makers.

I have to be honest and say it wasn't even near my AOTS but hey I enjoyed it a lot and would recommend it to others if they like this kind of series also.. maybe it's only because I'm a shipping fangirl monster but yeah Katze and Hajime and all but I was really hoping for some romance between Sugane and Hajime~ Oh the senpai kouhai ship ~ but well I think the ending was nice made and I totally accept!!

There's going to be a second season so rejoice!

Too many mysteries that not solved here!!

Well, I know there's already second season announcement..
But you know, maybe Hajime & others won't be the MC or maybe there won't be there at all

Anyways, bravo characters developments & ost

Kinda confusing ending because there are still many things left unanswered but still it was good.

Ok what. First of all i'd like to say that I REALLY enjoyed this anime. I loved every character, I liked the visuals and action, music was great, plot was very engaging. I couldn't stand Hajime, even though at first she seemed likeable and endearing, her perfection became annoying by the end. That's not what even bothers me:

OD's probably dead and that was completely glossed over. Utsutsu was nowhere to be found, and she'd be the most destroyed by his death. The 'MESS' appeared randomly, but what did they actually do. Berg-Katze had lost his hold on people since they all trusted CROWDS and that made perfect sense until it seemed like he's either 1. invisible and next to Hajime or 2. inside her??? What? I don't get it. Mind you, there were loads of hints in this anime that Hajime was more than she let on, but it was never explained and her attitude was never redeemed. Yet that ep 11 recap made it seem like she's perfect the way she is and she doesn't need justification, which makes no sense. Every other character was balanced; they made choices, they had fears and worries, they made mistakes, they grew together. Especially Rui, that tragic hero, cross dressing weirdo, haha. He was my favorite character. Yet Hajime had nothing of the sort. Not accountable for her actions, not a care in the world, no consequence, not a single bad decision made and everything just falls in line for her? Meanwhile Jou nearly died, Utsutsu's slowly killing herself, OD's probably dead, Rui had to go through hell and back just to figure out he needed people's help, and now Berg Katze might be in her boobs? After she more or less asked him out? WTF.

Honestly, I enjoyed this anime irrespective of Hajime. I didn't 'hate' her but i definitely didn't like her.

I'm in love with the OST. And Hajime.

OD challenges Berg-Katze to a fight. It ends with a weakened Berg-Katze and an apparently dead OD.

Using Crowds to stop Crowds? Rui is a genius.

Poor Berg-Katze, everyone's ignoring it.
Wait, in the end, is Berg-Katze invisible or Hajime's necktie or Hajime's boobs? People say she absorbed him.

I enjoyed this entire anime, but this ending just left many unanswered questions. It's missing something. There's not really a closure. But hey, I enjoyed it and that matters the most.
That's why a second season would be awesome! (^_^)

Very chaotic and dissapointing ending to an otherwise very entertaining series. I've read that there is some supplementary material that helps clarify the ending. If that is the case, that is incredibly lazy production. A series should be able to stand on it's own.

I've just found out that a second season is coming. Which may mean that things will be further explained. Excellent. I really want to see where they take this whole "crowds" thing.

Pretty awesome twist on superheroes show!! Love the optimism the show shown throughout :3

*ahem* some speculation of my own!

OC probably still live, he did explained "if note is destroyed, you might die, in worst case" (if translation solid). so still hope since no confirmation of his death yet

Since the main focus of the show isn't about superheroes showdown, I think they ended it just where it need to be, though it cock-teased everyone on what happened over the timeskip.

My take on why Katse is sealed as a scarf... probably its done by Hajime plan, right after where she make a last phone call to her mother on about "I'm just me" (not really sure the meaning), the credit roll when she pull out her notes

The showdown is skipped which could due to the reason of:
1. Superhero showdown is not the main focus of the show, Crowds are.
2. Out of production time
3. Build up for seasonTwo
4. It just how it is

Why Katse isn't banish or kill?
Mess-chan. Hajime ended a case of alien abduction by interacting (?) them instead of killing.
Safe to say she sealed Katse near her so one day she could befriend/tame with Katse....

talk about some fuck up optimism there, lol

Didn't exactly find the show overall entertaining, I lost interest half way through and forced myself to finish it....if I was years younger, or perhaps if I had grown up with the Power Rangers (although I did grow up with TMNT....), who knows, this may not have been as boring as it was :|

I think primarily the problem was, the society in which this show is based, the everyone comes together for a common good sort of thing, compliments the conflict too much to the point of boredom. Possibly a better route would have been a more realistic world, or rather than realism, at least not a world in which seemingly all it's inhabitants are fine with helping someone at the blink of an eye.

Perhaps the best part of the show was the OST, which was actually pretty good.

This was a great show, and the ending was perfect for it.

If you all want the key to understanding this show, BK was a Gatchaman, but instead of being a hero, he was a pure antihero.

A hero is someone who inspires us to do our best, by extension an anti-hero would be someone who inspires us to do our worst. This by the way was why Hajime exposed the Gatchaman. What good are hero's if they cannot inspire people?

Humanity has both potentials inside of them, BK sought to inflame the later, Hajime realizing this (by figuring out the riddle) came up with the plan to counter it. If you want you can think of BK as an alien who feeds off of cynicism and self loathing, the more people felt that way (feeling weak, helpless, alienated, whatever) the stronger he was, the more people felt joyous and had fun the weaker he became.

What Hajime's purpose was, from the start was to defeat the various forms of self-hatred that everyone possessed, as symbolized by the gatchaman team itself: from PaiPai thinking himself a coward, Jou thinking himself insignificant, Utsutsu self hatred, Rui's cynicism about the world, OD's fear of his own power, and Sugane having no confidence in his own beliefs, Hajime knew that this was the true enemy they faced and systematically went about fixing them.

But negative emotion can never be completely defeated (and the show made this point at the end stating about the rise in Crowd crime), but as long as one person remains optimistic about the future, these negative emotions can be contained.

That was what Hajime did at the end, that was the purpose of her phone call to her mother. Hajime wasn't going to let the world get her down, she knew who and what she was and liked who she was. Whether BK as a person is actually within her is irrelevant. We all have self hatred in us, the point is to not let it destroy us. The ending was symbolic of this conflict. Hajime will always be there to remind us of the best in us, and in doing so will always contain the worst in us.

Just watched the full ending and I must say they answered any lingering questions the fans had after the original airing pretty well. Hajime "defeating" Katse was really something else I'm happy with the direction they went with that. Rui still looks as delcious as ever, with him now a Gatchaman the wait for S2 will be unbearable!

Wow look like most of my question got answer in this thread . Yet I have to vent I am kinda upset that they show Hajime and Katze meet off screen. I was looking forward to that conclusion since the middle of the series. To see them meet face to face. I wonder how it would have worked. Now I feel cheated and I want a remake of the last episode. I hope they are making a season two. That way I will get what I want. Anyways enough venting now to the praise I come to like this show. I am kinda bum that O.D. had maybe died at the end. I said maybe cause nobody confirm he was dead and he seem to have just lost a lot of blood. He could have fainted from blood lost. Then Utsutsu went to heal him. Then we get see him second season. I also felt that the ending had a a lot of question around I like the fact surround the ending some mystery. That only if they bring a season two. Cause If they don't I say to that is boooo....... . Well that conclude my two cents.

I may be over thinking this, but is it possible that Hajime and BK are two halves of the same being?

The things that make me think this are:

1. Hajime's love for planners/notebooks before her encounter with JJ and her NON-Reaction when she sees him for the first time.

2. some of JJ's prophecies concerning the broken child and the white winged bird.
-episode 1 "The white-winged bird is not among you because it is lost."
Hajime is lost?
-episode 2 "A bird with sundered wings has wandered in. The bird is no longer sane."
Hajime joins the Gatchaman crew
-episode 5 "When a large box has vanished into darkness, the broken child will finally reveal itself to us. The white bird shall bear witness."
Hajime reveals herself to the world as a Gatchaman
(i may also need to go back and closely look at JJ's origami bird shows, perhaps a clue there?)

3.The fact that Hajime never lays eyes on BK, either in person (bk takes the elevator down) or virtually (BK's avatar is invisable to Hajime) also the two only converse when Hajime is alone (virtually and literally)
-you can't look yourself in the eye

4.BK's Gatchaman form looks to be half transparent. Perhaps BK was a Gatchaman who was some how split in half resulting in evil/good parts separating.

5. a couple of other small things
-Hajime's obsession with collages to the point that it is evident in her Gatchaman form. She is obsessed with creating a new whole from fragmented parts.
-We never hear her "Mom" on the phone

Just my 2 cents. Again i may be over thinking it.

It was a great finale, it did nothing less that fulfilling my hopes, and I enjoyed every moment of it. The ending was as unpredictable as expected, considering Hajime's role in the story.

1. Characters. +1. The cast was not only full of unique and great characters, but even the side ones were really enjoyable and I don't remember being bored by anyone. As for my favorites - Hajime, undeniably, I don't think there's anyone who doesn't love her. But Joe is probably my ultimate favorite, he was so awesome. JJ also had a very good presence for someone who didn't take much action for the duration of the show. Sugane turned out to be way more interesting character than I initially expected him to be. Berg Katze is ultimately one of the best villains ever, he was one of the things that made the anime for me.
2. Atmosphere. +1. I doubt there was a moment when the atmosphere was bad or didn't exist. The animation style and maybe even more so - the soundtrack gave this anime also a unique atmosphere in addition to everything else it had.
3. OST. +1. One of the best parts about the anime. I love that an electronic sounding was chosen for the soundtrack. Maybe the best thing about it was how it was making the atmosphere energetic and lively.
4. Animation. +1. At first I was really prejudiced about the style of the animation, but few episodes in and I was already loving it. One of the key parts for the great feel of the anime.
5. Background story. +1. The background of the Gatchaman organisation was good enough for me, more was not really needed.
6. Storyline. +1. Totally unpredictable, and actually pretty good.
7. Ending. +1. I felt satisfied enough, knowing that 2nd season is coming, and soon at that, probably. Predictably unpredictable. I just want to know if OD's alive.
8. Drama. +1. A decent amount of drama, like OD's and Pai Pai's backgrounds.
9. Overall affect. +1. A very energetic and lively title, really refreshing. I also love the Hero feel it had, ultimately reviving the Hero genre in my opinion. I didn't feel bored for once, and was always unprepared for what was to come, thanks to Hajime. It was dramatic, refreshing, philosophical and epic at the same time.

10. Bonus score: +1. The anime's innovativeness. I can't even describe the title well enough, as it contains so much things, and I don't remember ever watching anything like it before. Even if there are few titles like it, for which I don't know yet, this one is definitely a rare gem. Even if I don't put it in my Top 5, it's surely one of the best quality animes ever in my opinion, and one of my faves for sure.

Overall score: 10/10. Surely one of the few best animes for the last years.

Wow what a satisfying ending!! Out of the shows I watched this season, this one is definitely AOTS.

Incredible OST and very likable characters. The art style was a little strange but I felt it went well with the whole futuristic vibe.

There are a lot of things I want to say but I will make one point in particular. I think this show did a good job in showing how most people are. I think at times I forget that most people aren't nice or willing to help others. The riddle that Berg comes up for Hajime illustrates this point. However, Hajime asks what makes a hero? Notice that the Crowds users were at first using the power to wreck havoc since they had this newfound ability. No one was really using it to try and stop the other "bad users". It wasn't until Rui comes up with the idea of it being a game and gaining points do the people start to fight against the criminals. So these now "do-gooders", should they be considered heroes? Their helping is now secondary to them gaining for themselves points and trying to out do one another. Notice when that woman who saved the grandfather and child. She was more concerned with the points she'd get than with the actual saving. So both sides of the fight are acting on self interest. So what exactly makes a hero? Very strong way to put that good and evil aren't so clear cut and possibly don't exist.

Again, this was AOTS without a doubt. I don't rank usually but I'll give this an 8/10 solid.

Wow! I never considered Hajime's question about 'what makes a hero' to be something worth thinking about, but... after your explanation, I can now see the theme that is portrayed here.

The quality can be compared to a movie - except this is a one-cour anime. The story development was shaky at best and the characters remained as archetypes. Interesting archetypes. The premise wasn't bad and was somewhat unique. I wanted to like its quirkiness but the development was sluggish and decently done at best. I liked the undertones but had no emotional attachment. Could have been a six if more enjoyable. I'll be watching the second season.

This show is so colorful!!!! I love it!!

The art style is really cute too!! (It reminds me of Super Seisyun Brothers, I watched it first before GCrowds)
OP- great
ED- not a fan
OSTs- great :) , matched the series

I seriously thought, and hoped, to see Rui transform, he'd probably have the cutest and prettiest Gatchaman design, oh damn it, I WANT TO SEE HIS GATCHAMAN
OD's gatcha looks majestic
I didn't get to see Katze's gatcha clearly, so I'm not sure...
I love Hajime so much :D
I doubt there won't be anymore HUGE conflict regarding using the crowds though, there will surely be another one... like not being able to decide on the spot (i think?)

Using the CROWDS like that looks really FUN!!!, no need for skyping, and everything is faster and easier.. NOT AN IDEAL WORLD FOR ME

I love this ending :)

The ending's a bit similar to Summer Wars, don't you think

......

Oh damn, he's in her boobs

how did she put Katze in there???

Interesting. So Katze is in Hajime's bosom. Kinda weird but okay. It looks like there is even a 1 year time skip near the end there to. Can't wait for the second season! Gatcha!

So that was the ending.Pretty non conclusive guess they expected to do a second season. Also the o.d fight while awesome ending way to fast and did he die or not? If so was the only reason for his death to hold back Bertz for a little bit? It kinda weird how they dropped the whole mess thing and then they show up again randomly for no real reason or purpose. why does bertz always appear invisible to hajima? I also doubt he turned into a scarf or whatever that was hajima maybe thinking he did.

Look I highly enjoyed the show. The characters were enjoyable espcially hajima. The visuals were beautiful and I love the action. Just the end left me kinda eh with some unanswered questions. Im looking forward to season 2 when its dubbed I just wish this arc had a more conclusive feeling which it doesint. Also WHY DOES RUI CROSS DRESS! theres never a reason given. The dub cast did an awesome job espcially who ever was voicing bertz.

Even with my questions I still give the show an 8.

It was nice to see O.D.'s Gatcha form, it looks pretty cool. I wonder if O.D. died? I hope not :(

The ending wasn't conclusive, but that doesn't bother me much, as I don't mind "open" endings. Plus, there is a second season coming, so that is likely the reason why the ending wasn't conclusive. I would have preferred the show to be one season-only, though.

At any rate, it is a great anime, with an interesting message. "Everyone can be a hero". The characters, visuals and music are really good, so I can say I am looking forward for the second season. Hopefully it is as good. Hajime, Rui and O.D. were my favorite characters, so I hope they have great roles in the second season, assuming all of them are back, of course.

It started off with a bang, and it slowed down considerably in the middle, but at least the pace became faster at the end. Now I'm upset that it's over. It was a fun watch. 6/10

Good thing that I watchted it till the end. The MC is really annoying with her forced carefree attitude though at least imo and Katze's haha but the story was really entertaining. Can't wait for the second season :)

Eh? Eh? Did I miss something? Feels like it's missing one episode. I was like, will the evil dude come at their date?! *Press NEXT* Then nothing. Wth. It didn't feel like an ending at all!

Otherwise I love the series, but it really feels like there's a missing episode at the end. Seems strange to end it on a phone call.

Think second season will continue right of the bat where 1st season left?

Well, Hajime was incredibly annoying at the start, then she got a little better and...worse again. Like a few of the cast, she came off as rather obnoxious with the nonchalant yet overly genki attitude.

I grimaced a little during the first half of episode 11 where the team had some sort of deep self-reflection because frankly, the character development was scarce and rushed. It seemed to me they were telling rather than showing the changes. The show didn't make me feel anything for the characters.
(Though to be fair...that part was practically filler so it could've been hastily thrown together because of production issues or something).

The whole 'everyone using social media for good' and 'community/humanity helping each other' in the second half felt lacking in terms of execution and buildup. While I enjoyed the way it was done in Summer Wars, here...not so much.

The series had it's moments but turned out very disappointing...5.5/10.

Watch the directors cut version of episode 12/Gatchaman Crowds Embrace. It'll fill in some gaps.

Hmm? so Rui now has Katze's Note right?
And JJ did nothing to stop Katze when he was right there. JJ is STILL a useless character.
OD's Gatchaman powers were epic. Glad that was saved for the last episode.
But wth happens to OD? For all we know, he's still unconscious bleeding out in the middle of the road.
And wth. CROWDS ability shouldve been deactivated after the Neo 100 were defeated. Of course it's going to be abused for crime. I thought that was already clearly proved.

The series as a whole was insanely cute with lovely visuals. 8/10
Gotta go watch GC Embrace now to fill in those holes ep12 left...
