just now i finished watching the anime.
although i'm not a big fan of harem, i perrty liked the anime.
now for my question, i know there is continue to the anime at the novel, and i won't read the novel so i thought about asking here what happend since the end of the anime in the plot.
Basically, it started off with Masuzu using a most wicked way to keep Hime from revealing Eita-Masuzu's 'fake' relationship. Masuzu struck out at Hime by pointing out that her self-created 'delusional ex-girlfriend setting' is fake too, and thus she is just as criminal as them. In not so many words, Masuzu implied that if Hime could overlook what she heard that day, she would continue to accept her setting as an ex-girlfriend. By doing this, Masuzu trampled on Hime's innocence with her accusations at Hime's deed (ie. calling herself an ex-girlfriend even though it's false) though it was suggested that she was guilt-stricken while doing it.
After that, Hime's Chuuni got worse and it was initially believed that it was an attempt to cling on to her delusion more strongly. I shall gloss over the things she did. Anyway, because of this, she got into trouble with the PMC (Public Morals Committee). Ji-En-Otsu (including Ai) tried to help her but to no avail initially. Afterwards, it was thanks to PMC's chairperson/president that Hime went back to normal (in terms of behavior and clothing). However, she did not rejoin the club activities.
Meanwhile, Chiwa is gaining on Masuzu, now being able to cook simple dishes for Eita after she learned some recipes from Ai. Masuzu went to Eita's house to get some 'Mo-nyo Mo-nyo' (see volume 4 teasers).
Incidentally, I think somewhere around here, Eita asked Masuzu whether she really has fallen for him due to her recent strange actions, to which Masuzu replied 'no way that could happen' with a shocked expression.
Anyway, to continue, Chiwa was cooking in Eita's house and displayed her newfound skills. Masuzu snapped and cooked instant noodles for Eita just to demonstrate she can cook too. And Eita observed that she snapped in a situation where she previously would just do some antic and let things slide calmly. Chiwa then said Eita needs to eat something nutritious, to which Masuzu agreed despondently, and Chiwa started making meals for Eita while he busied himself with an upcoming important exam (ability exam lit.). Meanwhile, Hime was still absent from club activities and Chiwa and Ai were troubled and bewildered why that was so since the incident with the PMC was already resolved.
The second half was really much more interesting, thanks to Himeka, the dynamics of the harem appear to be changing, especially after the climax, w.r.t Chiwa, Masuzu, and Himeka (Ai is for entertainment purposes in this volume).
To start off, Eita came in second in the exam. The first place was taken by a friend of Chiwa, whom she met when she was hospitalized, the daughter of the doctor who did the surgery on Chiwa. Apparently, this girl, Mogami, whose first name I forgot, hated studying and have been in the 50s in ranking (only the top 100 are ranked). To get off her mother's nagging, she attended a highly prestigious cram school (which Eita wanted to attend but can't due to cost). She did not even pay attention in the cram school, but just by attending the cram school, she took 1st place from Eita. Mogami seemed to be supporting Chiwa and shipping her during her conversation with Eita. Anyway Eita was depressed and decided to spend more time studying. On that day itself (after the results were announced), Eita pulled a 'Joseph Joestar' antic on Masuzu:
Eita: The next line you are going to say is, 'I'm coming to your house for Mo-nyo Mo-nyo'.
Masuzu: Eita-kun, can I come to your house to get a Mo-nyo Mo-nyo..... what!?
Eita said he had to study since he got 2nd place, which surprised Masuzu, and to which Masuzu relented without pushing him to get her way. Eita then had a study session with Ai (who ranked 3rd) and Kaoru (whose rank I forgotten, but was also pretty high).
Incidentally, the class had a change in seating (2nd term thing), and Masuzu and Eita got separated (far apart, Masuzu got a front seat nearer to the window side, while Eita got one of the last row seats nearer to the back door to the corridor). A lot of hilarious antics from Masuzu here (since she doesn't want to be separated from Eita) And with a stroke of chance, Mogami now sits besides Eita. Each time Mogami and Eita talked, Masuzu went crazy, and in the end, she was asked to see the teacher after school due to her antics in class.
Everyone was too busy for club activities that day (Hime still absent), Eita did some studying in the club room and then Eita tried to cheer Masuzu up by going to pick her up after her lecturing was done and they were going to go home together. Masuzu then asked, "Isn't this place the school, a place where we need to reinforce our BGR to others?" Eita then held her hand, which pleased her very much. When they reached the school cupboard area they saw Hime and Hime saw them. Masuzu quickly pulled her hand away from Eita hastily, which bewildered him very much, since, 'won't they supposed to show their BGR relationship to everyone (and besides, Hime already knew they were fake, no, as a matter of fact, Masuzu had asserted that they were real so shouldn't they continue holding hands to reinforce that?)'. Hime then fled. And with that, they went home, no longer holding hands, with Masuzu feeling despondent.
The following day, Mana came bursting into the club room, trying to find out why Hime was so depressed (Mana sent her home when she was feeling down), and confronting Masuzu about it. Oh by the way, in this volume, it was explained earlier by the PMC that, the Natsukawas are a powerful family, and Masuzu and Mana's Dad appeared to have a connection to the politicians, and that was the reason why no one (teachers) questioned the Ji-En-Otsu club about the previous intrusion by Mana and her henchmen (see volume 2), which was totally altered by the anime. To continue, Eita then told the rest that Hime's current state was his fault and he would resolve it, without rapping on Masuzu. Masuzu also added at the end, "I've also steeled my resolve."
On Saturday, Eita visted Hime's home, and they talked. Hime then asked, "What's the difference between the real and the fake?" She then said, during the Dere Appeal contest (volume 4), after seeing what Eita and Masuzu did on stage, she felt that they were a great couple, and she could not match up to Masuzu. Now that she's told that they were a fake, it was unbelievable to her. And if all that was a lie, then she could no longer believe in love. She then proceeded to tell Eita about the agreement the girls made behind Eita, that is to be friendly with one another as comrades in love with the same guy (volume 4). It was then revealed that even if Masuzu had not threatened her and shut her mouth in that way, she would not reveal their 'fake' relationship as she felt that it would destroy the Ji-En-Otsu club, which she has grown to love very much. Eita then explained to Hime that Masuzu did that because she can't trust anyone, even himself since he would have stayed as Masuzu's boyfriend even without further threat as he was deadset in fulfilling his agreements (both the promise to Chiwa that he would cure her, and him and Masuzu's fake BGR relationship agreement). Hime disagreed with Eita's view on Masuzu and believed that Masuzu continuously blackmailed him because she was just afraid of being abandoned. In the end, Hime said she wanted to ascertain the true feelings of Masuzu, not just for Masuzu's sake, but also for her own sake, and to do that, she would battle her.
On Sunday, gathered Masuzu, Eita and Hime. Hime first talked about what had made her a Chuuni and exposed her dark history. In short, she wanted to make friends and become super popular, so she started doing things like continuously smiling, bring flower to classroom, etc. etc. and in the end failed miserably and got called names. As her dark history got recited by herself, even Eita could not stand it and started covering his ears in anguish. And in the end, because of her failures, she started shutting herself in her fantasy world. But after meeting Eita and Masuzu, she began to feel that coming to school was fun. But she felt betrayed after knowing they were a fake, even though they looked so real to her. But she too was a coward. Instead of talking to Chiwa and Ai, she wanted to maintain the status quo as she did not want to risk the club from getting torn apart. She decided to up her Chuuni syndrome and become exactly as what Masuzu had accused her of, that is, being a faker. In that way, she would become the accomplice of Eita and Masuzu, and that they are all fellow fakers. She thought that would solve her cowardly feelings and her feelings of being betrayed. She would become their comrade in that way. However, the world was kinder to her than she thought (since everyone came to her rescue, even her own classmates did not ostracize her for her behavior, and the PMC chairperson even helped her out in a way she did not expect). So she could no longer continue faking and lying. She then pointed out that Masuzu was lying to herself and was in fact in love with Eita. Masuzu was shocked! Eita thought that she would smile and say that that can't be possible. But instead, she said "N-no, t-that's not it....." and she took some steps backward, shaking her head again and again, then went on further to deny it and assert that they were fakes. Hime then said, "I don't think so. It's mortifying for me to say this, but I think you are Eita are a good match." Masuzu then continued to deny one thing after another even when Eita started pointing out all the strange actions she had taken up till now as evidence of her true feelings. Eita then said that he would not leave her alone and stretched his hand to her. In his monologue, 'I think I will stay by this girl's side, whether is it in the name of a lover or in the name of a fake boyfriend, as long as Masuzu needs me, I will...' (when Eita said this in his monologue, it occurred to me that he could just be acting kindly, and that his own feelings are not 100% clear yet). However, Masuzu proceeded to reject his outstretched arm and said that it's not Eita she needed, but merely a 'boyfriend'. Eita then said in response to her assertion, "if that's the case, it's impossible for me to continue on as your fake boyfriend and continue on as your accomplice." Masuzu then started threatening about how she would spill the contents of his notebook on the internet if he canceled the agreement one-sided. Eita said he didn't mind since after what Hime did which was worse compared to his own dark history (because even when he's a Chuuni, he was still leading a blessed life, while Hime was ostracized by everyone), he couldn't afford to do less. In fact, thinking to himself, he thought that he should have cancel the agreement when they were discovered by Hime, but in the end, he himself was afraid that the Ji-En-Otsu club will collapse because of that. Masuzu then left, vowing to publicize his notebook.
As Masuzu was reading the scans of Eita's notebook and getting ready to publicize them, while cursing and mumbling about who does Eita think he is, rambling about his bad points, which then slowly became, "even when he complains, he still tags along with my plans", "he's the first man who can follow my Jojo antics", "he's the first person who scolded me", and then, as she was clicking through the scans, she came across the last few pages of the notebook once again. This time round, more was revealed than previously. Which talked about Chiwa's accident and how Eita wished that he was in her place instead, the splitting up of his parents, his prayer to god to heal Chiwa and he would give all his manga, pornbooks, etc. etc. as offerings, and finally, "become a doctor and cure Chiwa".
When she saw that, tears flowed down her cheek. At that moment, the doorbell rang, Masuzu thought it was her mother but it turned out to be her father instead.
Eita expected his dark history to be revealed the next day, but nothing happened. Masuzu did not come to school. Hime came for club activities. Club started discussing about what to do for school festival but the final approval will have to come from Masuzu, the club president. Masuzu did not come to school again the next day and did not reply to Eita's messages. Eita decided to go to her place, but he was sick and had a fever from his cold. In the end, halfway, a passerby white collar worker sent him back home. When he regained consciousness, he saw Chiwa crying over him. Eita wanted to go out (to Masuzu's place) but Chiwa stopped him, but in the end said, "at least transfer the cold to me". Chiwa then kissed Eita (for the second time). In the end after that, Eita fell back to the sofa, totally drained of energy, unable to go to Masuzu's place. Saeko then came back, brought him to the clinic and back. After Chiwa knew that Eita was ok, she shy said, "It's thanks to me, erm...". As Eita tsukkomi-ed and looked at Chiwa, he blushed as he remembered the kiss. Saeko then did some cleaning up and found a notebook dropped from the window. It was his chuuni notebook. As Eita was wondering why Masuzu just came and left quietly, he recalled the kiss with Chiwa earlier and thought that Masuzu might have seen that. "You've got to be kidding me...", he thought. And then, he received the message from Masuzu, "Cancellation of our agreement. Thanks for everything. From a girl who was your girlfriend."
