So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Oh yeah! This is awesome! Keep it up! But I wondered why there are no BD releases, though. Perhaps Sunrise focused on the intended market of little girls too much that they think BDs won't sell?
Nothing is bad for being in any genre or demographic, especially anime for kids.

Excuse me, I'm new at sales charting, so I don't know how to read it. I'm hoping that some kind member would help me inserts ad how these charts work, because I can't comprehend them.

Also, I'd also like to ask if any of the Kamisama No Inai BD/DVD volumes have gone on sale? Again, I'm not good with looking at charts, so I don't know.

Thank you in advanced!

Good day~
I'm not a expert in this chart thing, but I got the basics about how these posts work.
The first post are the sales between the period that the tittle says (Sep 02 - Sep 08 in this case).

As the post content we have some divisions. The first one is the BD sales, then DVD sales and after that are Singles/Drama CD/Albums sales (a.k.a anime music, only the two first sections refer to anime sales per se).

The format of each section is the follow:

*position this week *this week sales * total sales * series anime + volume number
For example:
*1, *8,632 *8,632 Hatarakou Maou-sama! vol.3
Means that the volume 3 of Hatarakou Maou-sama! was ranked first this week. Selling 8,632 units this week and 8,632 in total (a.k.a total sales since release).

Sometimes (more frequent now than before), we have a second post when someone keeps track about how each series is doing each season (for example right now we are starting sales period of summer series, so people is starting to collect summer data). This rank is based on volume 1 sales.

In this case we only have three series since all the other are not in sale yet:

11,852 *2 Brothers Conflict [BD+DVD]: 2013/08/21
------ 10,000 Line ------
*6,008 *1 Dangan Ronpa the Animation [BD+DVD]: 2013/08/28
*5,002 *2 Servant x Service [BD+DVD]: 2013/08/21
---- Manabi Line (2899) ----
*1,731 *1 Rozen Maiden (2013) [BD+DVD]: 2013/08/30

The format in those post are kinda similar to the first post. In this case is:
Total - # Weeks Charted - Title - Format ranked - Release Date

Taking for example: *5,002 *2 Servant x Service [BD+DVD]: 2013/08/21
means that Servant x Service both bd+dvd added 5002 and were in the chart for two weeks, and its release date was 2013/08/21.

Being in the chart is a good thing but it doesn't mean that a series is doing good, why? There are many slow weeks when series selling very poorly get the chance to chart (there are weeks when the most selling volume is only 1k-ish, which isn't very much if it's a first week sales). What it really matters is how many volumes a series sells, how many they need to be considered useful depends of many factors (cost productions, series target, you can seek about those if you want~) but making it simple (maybe not exact but you will get the idea):

+20k -> Big hit
+ 10k -> Hit
6k - 9.9k -> Small hit
3k - 6k -> Ok (company was able to pay productions costs but didn't get much inversion back)
2k - 3k -> If it was a low bucket production maybe it could pay its production costs,
Less than 2k is bad, and less than 1k is ABSOLUTELY bad.

This info can be kinda inaccurate, and everyone is free to correct me. In the last part I just wanted to give a general idea, not take those number to the heart, people with more experience and knowledge can make a better explanation.

And answering you other question, here you have KaminoInai release date:
Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi [BD+DVD]: 2013/09/25

I'm a little confused. Why did this get a BD release now? Wasn't it a pretty poor performer on DVD, years ago when it first came out?
One thing to note is that back in 2009 Aoi Hana had only DVD released and no BD, and I have read some fans of the anime/manga actually buy this BD Box because they want it in BD, and some even have the DVDs already.

Anyway, the packaging of the BD Box looks gorgeous:

One thing to note is that back in 2009 Aoi Hana had only DVD released and no BD, and I have read some fans of the anime/manga actually buy this BD Box because they want it in BD, and some even have the DVDs already.

Anyway, the packaging of the BD Box looks gorgeous:

That makes me wish Aria was on BD, I'd get that in seconds.

Too bad most of the yuri animes have such a bad sales that we'll never see a second seasons for them. I'd really like to see more Aoi Hana or Sasameki Koto.

As for why - BD boxes are almost pure profit, provided you can sell even a couple hundred. So, might as well. 1.4k is definitely profit.
As for timing - Most likely because the manga just ended. Can't think of any other reason.

I am sad about Rozen Maiden.

I hope someone gets to work on that Aoi Hana BD box.

Yes! Hatarakou Maou-sama! at the top of the chart this week! That brings me joy. I'm really hoping for a season 2 now...

Free! CD singles up there on the charts as well...hmm. Not too sure what to think of Silver Spoon's OP song though.

I am sad about it too. Beautiful PEACH-PIT box was not incentive enough even for a super cheap volume 1 it seems. I fear for the future volumes, though they will have beautiful covers, art cards and book marks. 7 discs for 7 dolls. I'm really enjoying the show but it seems it is not what most anime buyers want today. Hopefully the manga gets a bump.

One more week before Free gets to claim it's entitlement and mass cheerleading begins oh boy I can hardly wait.....

In other news I wonder how exactly original Gundam looks in Blu-Ray. Unless it's been completely remastered I can't imagine a show from 1979 looking that great in 1080p.

isn't it relatively cheap because it features only episode 1 and that was a recap episode, i wouldn't bother buying it aswell

Yes, all true but would you buy 2-7 instead and miss getting the box? Probably not... if you were going to buy any at all you would buy this one.

Personally I enjoyed the recap episode but it seems most agree with your opinion of it.

We don't have the Animate number so it's every likely that Free is underestimated by Stalker. Sales number for CD singles are all more than that predicted number of 15K, some are even more than 18K. Thus sale number for vol 1 should be between 18K - 20K. Whatever Free is doing, it has earned the success.

Oh yes everything by Kyoani earns it's success whereas everything else just sort of lucks into it or is a happy accident. What a glorious achievement we should all be proud of and celebrate. I can hardly wait, can't you feel my excitement and anticipation?

^ well, that's kind of the rule of popular entertainment. Big brand names will always have an edge over smaller ones. Actually, I'm glad that anime is a lot more diverse that other mediums. Compared to Hollywood and the gaming industry, anime still retains more of its dwindling artistic pursuit.

NOT AGAIN!!! PLEASE, KAIOSHIN_SAMA !!!!

I think we have been through this and had this settled. Come on, ThangLong only said Free has earned its success, which I fully agree, but he did not say everything else lucks into it or is a happy accident. I doubt anybody has said it here. You are just adding it to again throw your studio antagonism at this forum. Please, stop it, please.

Don't you see the only person who is having a complex about studio rivalry here is you yourself ??
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Didn't we celebrate Shingeki no Kyojin's success recently when it topped the sales charts? And for a even more recent example people have been praising Hataraku maou-sama for it's high sales for these pass couple of weeks. There are tons of non-kyoani shows get mass recognition on MAL when they are on top of the charts.

I don't particularly think there's such a thing as deserving success as a sole factor to achieving it but I also know thanglong didn't mean what I attributed to him as he's proven to be a good guy. Three more weeks and we're out of these dog days of summer then we'll see my theories put to the real test with the more diverse and high profile fall stuff. Admittedly Frees success means very little when there's nothing else to really measure it against.

I can tell you that Fall may the repeat of Summer, prepare for disappointment, hopefully I don't get another anime with super shit marketing, it makes me want to bury this season as old shame.

+20k -> Big hit
+ 10k -> Hit
6k - 9.9k -> Small hit

Thank you so much! Now I have a grasp of how this works! :D

Well, I guess I don't have to worry about Shingeki No Kyojin xD, 2nd volume and 30k total sales xD.

Well, I think what Free has done pleases its audience in which ample fan-service and good sakuga are predominant factors. With that, the animators at KyoAni deserve praise. We also have to mention the timing. Free is simply the right show at the right season, targets the right audience, creates the right storylines, and is taken proper care by a good studio. KyoAni fans are pleased with the familiar settings, while the ladies get their eye-candy. Both sides are satisfied so they bought the BDs. Thus, due to good efforts and great business sense by the people behind it, Free deserves its success.

Fall season is indeed the test to your theory, and the common perception that I myself have. The two anime to watch are Kill La Kill and Coppelion based on my intuition :D. Not to encourage the flame war here but Kill La Kill would definitely be measured up against Kyoukai no Kanata due to similar themes.

Since when do CD sales correlate to disc sales? There are anime with really popular OP/EDs that sell average or badly.
