Lets begin. Argument 1 - Two sides I would like to limit this thread to Christianity and Atheism, as involving more religion would make this a true religion battlefield, but let's just say Theism vs Atheism. An organized religion is simply a group of people that share the same belief and will group for discussing, having that on mind, you could even call atheism a religion, but nonetheless, atheism is still made of people, just like theism religions, which means you can't say atheism people are better than theism people, and vice versa Argument 2 - Different people If you, atheist, think you are part of the large group of people that are respectable, cool, open-minded and that will always use logic as main feature for finding the truth, you are WRONG, because "you're "group" of people are just as pretentious, preachy, closed minded, and elitist as any religious group. Atheists are not enlightened, they're mostly just bitter." (Guy on the 9gag comments). So, basically, this reinforces the argument 1. The same would apply to religious people. _ Having those two things on mind, we can have a much better discussion, that if those atheists don't start insulting everyone here, and theists get baited by them and start discussing aswell. |

| Loved how the default was Christians vs. Atheists--leaving out Muslims, Buddhists, Pagans, Wiccans, Shinto, Daoists, Animists, Jews, Agnostics ....... I always used to tell the campus evangelists with their pseudo-surveys that I was a panentheist and after about 15 minutes of having to listen to me explain just what that is--they would invariably give up. You see their objective wasn't to gain knowledge--it was to convert me. These sorts of discussions are pretty much the same. Considering the source, it is either an attempt at conversion, or a chance to reinforce your own belief system at the expense of others. Of course if an atheist started this thread, it would probably be pretty much the same motivation. Us pagans just think you get the god, or the void, you deserve. We'll see you in the summerland... (and of course when I said "us pagans" I did not intend to claim to speak for any other members of the pagan community who may have an entirely different set of beliefs on this subject...) |
