I live in Sweden and we take of our shoes when we go indoors.

Please tell us what country you live in and why you take off or don't take off your shoes.

Personally I think it's quite obvious to take of your shoes when you go indoors. It's more comfortable and it makes your house less dirty.

USA. Definitely shoes off. Don't want to be trudging dirt and grime all over the floor.

Canada and, while the general rule of thumb is shoes off, there are exceptions.

For instance, right now I live in a falling apart, dirty student house with four other twenty year old males, none of whom can clean for shit, so I never take my shoes off (other than when sleeping or showering). When people have parties, or simply friends over, at similarly dirty student houses, no one ever takes their shoes off. People would rather not ruin their socks.

USA. It sounds stupid to not take your shoes off before you come in a house or past the front door.

The only time my shoes are on is if I'm bringing something in from outside like groceries. Otherwise there off before I do anything else. Alaska USA.

This but also in my case I rarely do leave, so I rarely have shoes on. I keep them in my room though so if I'm going to go out I do end up wearing them around the house a bit. However, I live in Los Angeles, not some mountain town - I'm walking on cleaned insides of buildings, my clean inside of my truck, and on concrete. It's not like I'm trekking through mud and grass and shit so they don't actually dirty anything up. I do usually take them off once I'm back in my room though, unless it's fucking cold.

Plus we have hard wood floors, so that helps too.

I tend to avoid using shoes. At least when it's summer. Never use it indoors, but I often put on my jacket because it's cold.

You don't wear shoes inside houses in Norway, and it'd be considered rude to do so, unless you've been told otherwise.

The thought of walking inside with shoes on just makes me cringe; smearing dirt everywhere on the floor is just not very nice at all, and I'd see it as a rude and a bad-mannered gesture if someone came to my house and did so.

Definitely shoes off (asian descent). Whenever I visit someone's house and they insist I keep my shoes on I just stand on the doorway with an awkward smile for a few seconds before deciding whether the host cares if I take them off or not. Classical conditioning is a bitch.

I don't like shoes. So I go barefoot whenever I can.
So of course, I always take them off when I'm in my home.

Who here wears slippers? Maybe you call them loafers or something, but they are indoor shoes.

Well?

USA and I take them off as soon as I come in the door. It's really gross to wear outdoor shoes around the house if you think about it. The Japanese have it right; take your shoes off and bow rather than shake hands!

I don't wear slippers unless it's winter and cold.

I never wear shoes indoor. I usually go onto my porch and then put on my shoes. Inside my house i usually come with a variation of shorts, some kind of sports jersey, and socks. I live in the U.S. and no one I know keeps their shoes on indoors

Btw, I can see too ignorance around here, not everyone have the same customs. Duh!

Ignorance is expected at this point. It's pretty common to find anywhere really.

Anyway, on the topic of dirtying someone's home with your shoes: some people prefer that than to risk people with very smelly feet. Has happened to me before, 10/10 would rather get dirt

I take my shoes off when I come in the house, when I am at another persons house as a guest though I keep them on unless I am told to do otherwise or told that I am allowed to take them off since people seem to consider it rude to just remove them. >.>

USA. I take off my shoes when I enter my house, but most people I know just wear shoes inside their homes. A lot of people seem to be surprised when they come to visit me and I ask them to remove their shoes.

Philippines. No, that's weird. I only wear shoes when I go to other people's house.

I'm just barefoot at home because I really don't get colds or anything afterwards. (As much as people tell me that I'll get a cough or something.)

I'm comfortable barefoot.

(Btw, damn it OP, I want your username)
