Who would you want to see if there was a dub? Do you think the dub would suck and totally ruin the show? State your opinion below :3

~My Opinion~
Wendee Lee would be awesome as Tomoko. Suits her personality completely.

---- Update 8/11/13
ok apparently people don't say "weaboo" anymore... um sorry? lol this is definetely the first time i've heard that one...

Seeing as how it was Sentai who picked it up, we have a 50-50 chance.

I couldn't be bothered either way, but I'd watch the dub just to see how it works out.
I agree with Wendee Lee being the best possible choice for everybody Tomoko.

What do you mean 'not licensed'?

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-07-07/sentai-filmworks-licenses-watamote-anime

And seriously, do people still use 'weeaboo'? Hasn't that word been eradicated from the English language yet? Also, what's wrong with someone not wanting a dub?

I just checked by doing a Google search. Nobody has used the word "w---b--"
here on MyAnimeList during the past year, with one exception last month.

I also checked on AnimeNewsNetwork. They are still using the word "w---b--",
but not too often.

Checking Urban Dictionary, hardly anybody has been updating the definitions
there in recent years.

On the internet at large, there are still people who use the term. So definitely
it should not be removed from the dictionary. However, it looks like it is out
of fashion these days. So find some more recent synonym.

you obviously don't know the definition. a weaboo is someone trying to be better than everyone else by not only using Japanese words incorrectly by mixing them with English, but thinking people who watch dubs are inferior. and yea congrats on being a "true fan" you're not only that, but ur super ignorant. and maybe my user name is based off an actual anime character, oh that's right you wouldn't know. at least i know what kawaii and chan are used for... why? do you not? anyways i would appreciate if i kept this post clean and free of negative attitudes like urself. i have no problem with people that perfer to watch with the original audio. feel free to express your opinion, but please be considerate to other people. maybe you'll make more friends that way.

I don't think Jeller was saying people who watch dubs are inferior. He was just voicing his opinion on this matter.

Hi Dateyutaka. I always enjoy your comments. However, this time I don't
quite understand what you mean. Are you talking about クレヨンしんちゃん ?
I would say that クレヨンしんちゃん would be difficult to dub, since it is relatively
culture-specific. Maybe that is why it is not so well-known overseas. On the other
hand, it seems that Watamote is enthusiastically welcomed by fans outside of Japan.
Also, there is not so much content in Watamote that requires specific knowledge
about Japan. The same goes for Sazae-san (サザエさん). It is very, very specific
to the Japanese culture, and it has never been dubbed. However, it is a huge hit
in Japan.

then why cannot shin chan be also i just want artistic interagry is all

Sazae will never be dubbed cuase of the rules of how the anime was maed in the first place

I agree that the artistic integrity of the work is always damaged to some extent
by dubbing. Sometimes it is less severe. Sometimes it is more severe. In this
case (which you just mentioned from Azumanga Daioh) the entire joke made no
sense at all in the English-dubbed version:

[Studying for the English Mid-term]
Ayumu 'Osaka' Kasuga: Say... like, for "Blue Three [Bruce Lee]
Ayumu 'Osaka' Kasuga: ", would that mean that "Blue" is his last name?
Kagura: That was random.
Tomo Takino: HaHaHa! Osaka, thats so dumb. "Blue Three [Bruce Lee]
Tomo Takino: " is a foreigner, isn't he?
Ayumu 'Osaka' Kasuga: Mmm-hmm.
Tomo Takino: That means, his last name has got to be "Three".
Ayumu 'Osaka' Kasuga, Kagura: ...oh!
Kagura: I never knew that! You're awsome, Tomo.
Tomo Takino: Yeah, I know.
Ayumu 'Osaka' Kasuga: Ok... but I wonder what happened to "One" and "Two"?
[Blue Three is imagined beating up One and Two a'la Bruce Lee]
Ayumu 'Osaka' Kasuga: You know, I guess that means "Blue Five" or there
about woul be Jackie Chan, huh?
Tomo Takino, Kagura: ...oh!
[a bird lands on Osaka's head, then flies away]

As AnimeNewsNetwork explained, "In case you didn't get the Bruce Lee joke in
Episode 13, here's a short explanation: many Japanese people have difficulty
pronouncing foreign names. At the same time, they have trouble pronouncing
'r' and 'l', as they use the same katakana or hiragana character. In addition, 'th'
is pronounced 's', as they use the same character as well. As a result, Bruce Lee
(ブルース・リー) can be mistakenly pronounced as "Blue Three" (ブルー・スリー)."

I definitely agree that Watamote would lose, artistically, through being dubbed.
But I still think that a lot of western fans would welcome it. In the same way,
books in one language are routinely translated into other languages. They always
suffer in the translation.

are you seriously censoring the word weeaboo right now

[2021 disclaimer]- i never said i liked the term and how its used, i didn't want it to come back on trend either at that time and i'm beyond burnt out on 'weeb' being misused now and wasn't trying to contribute to that. i was just immaturely trying to point out the comedic nature of implying the word is on the same level as a racial slur in terms of meaning or historical context, because i was only 15(?) and it's difficult to accurately convey sarcastic tones in text and it's very difficult with dyslexia to figure out what "w---b--" means.

Not at all. People can use any word that they want here on MAL, subject to
some basic rules. The usage of words does vary over time. Some new words
come in while other old words go out. If somebody else wants to bring back
that old passé word "w---b--" then I am totally okay with that. However, it is
SOOO 2006.

It would be a hit or miss. I mean, this show depends so much on Tomoko, her voice and her monologues. If she is voiced by a good voice actor even then there are chances, that it would not be as good. But well, no harm in trying.
