According to an upcoming issue of Young Magazine, manga "Initial D" will end in issue 35 which will be released on July 29th. The manga started serialization in 1995 and has been running for 18 years. So far, 46 volumes of the manga have been published. The series was adapted into a TV anime in 1998. Since then, 5 seasons, 5 OVAs, 1 anime movie, and 1 live-action movie have been made. The fifth season completed broadcasting this May.

Please note: The original source for this news post was an image found on the Japanese site, amaebi.net. Unfortunately, it seems someone decided to blur the image prior to its arrival on amaebi and, unbeknownst to our news moderators, this tampered with a watermark added to the image. Obviously, we do not agree with such doctoring of images and certainly did not mean to discredit ANN in any way. Thus, the source has now been modified to give credit where it is due.

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Another one bites the dust.

I've read that the story was heading towards the end but still, it's unbelievable how many long running manga are ending this year/have already ended.

Several dozens, not counting manga that were axed relatively soon.

Essentially speaking, this is the year of the end. I wonder if the Mayans made a mistake. Maybe it wasn't 2012 but 2013 instead.

Wow, this summer is a graveyard of manga. I barely read manga myself, but this is quite ridiculous :/

Egads, this has to be one of the longest running manga I know of that is (or was) still around. One of these days I should pick it back up. I only touched the first couple volumes.

It's about time. Lots of people will look on this and other endings as a sad thing. In reality, the closing of a series that has gone on for so long is a good thing. When it's not getting the axe, that means the creator feels the story has run its course and its time to move on to something new--and perhaps better. Too many times the community is faced with a series that never gets completed. It drags on too long, plot becomes stupid, the creator moves on or dies, and so many people are dissatisfied.

C'est la vie. You had a good run, Initial D.

It's always so sad when a long running manga comes to an end. :( I know it's a good thing that it actually has an ending, but Initial D was basically a given thing ever since I started to get into manga and anime.

Berserk better not be next.

If Berserk goes down, then we know it's the end of the world.

Seriously now, some of these manga's have gone on for too long to keep their stories fresh and captivating for their readership. It's best if the mangaka start new exciting titles.

I never read this manga, but on the bright side, 18 years is a really impressive amount, especially considering that the manga wasn't even in a weekly Shonen magazine.

What is going on... this is so freakin' ominous with all these series ending. Especially the fact that these are long-running series...

Well, does that mean season 6 soon? :D

Don't you worry. It's not going to end the way it's going until author dies. On the other note, i would be so happy if Berserk get some proper run and get to conclusion. I wonder what is wrong with peoples to not want an ending for a manga which is running for over 15/20 years. If it's getting proper ending, let it be. Author can move on to next work and we can possibly get even better story.

To its merit, it wasn't as bad as the Wangan Midnight movie.
