Even when rewatching this movie, that promise scene still gets to me and the Joui War scene still gives me chills!

EDIT: Celebrated New Years by watching this at like, 1 or something AM. So much fun. Not the best anime film I've seen, but it's still goddamn fantastic.

future shinpachi and kagura were super cool though. The movie was typical with long speeches and monologues about protecting and more protecting. Urgh thats why Gintama has not scored more than 8 to me.

For those less than 100 people who are not immersed in the Gintama wave,
YOU ARE NOT ALONE

To a non-Gintama fan (which is extremely rare in anime community) this is just another Keroro movie with Gintama's title and a bit more humor.

P.S.
If you don't agree, you are free to explain your reasons of loving this movie to me,thanks.

That was really great!!!! I was pretty much going to give this a 9, but the twists threw me, and the ending was better than expected....especially Shinpachi's glasses only disappearing....I fucking died from laughter. Had that actually been the end of the series, I would have been cool with it, but I'm so happy that it isn't over :)

10/10

That was fantastic.

I couldn't even count for how long and often my mouth was standing open because I couldn't believe what I saw. Future Kagura and Shinpachi the first appearance of them was so god damn epic holy shit.

This movie was just brilliant, so much twists where I didn't knew what would happen next. So much scenes where tears just flood over my face, especially with Otae or when Kagura and Shinpachi realized Yorozuya was gone ;_;

At the same time soooo much scenes where I just laughed my ass off. The future character design was on point definitely :D

Also very interesting to see something from the past which had also an impact on the future. Hopefully they will show more in the other 2 seasons I will watch next :D

Tbh I am a little bit overwhelmed atm. Gintama really is an master piece, if I could give 100/10 I would do it :)

To every person who hasn't seen the movie. DO IT! NOW!

10/10 <3

Really good movie, especially plotwise and easily amongst the best stuff Gintama has offered in that regard.

It was also funny as always and had some badass action.

This movie can either be canon or not because it doesn't really contradict the series tbh, however for the sake of this movie its a what if situation. i only say can because it fits in the timeline pretty well, and written by the manga author however good to enjoy this its own thing tbh.

However i loved this movie

It's too late to post this reply, because I have already completed the manga and the anime series is nearing its end; it was good to see the old Sunrise logo, while it still owned Gintama before outsourcing to BNP!!!!!! Well i really loved the concept of the movie, although a little confusion was prevailing, but the comic timing was perfect and when when we thought the main enemy was taken down, we got to see some awesome sword fighting skills of Gintoki and gang not as the Joui but as the Yorozuya!!! The most highlighted moment; it has been used in the cover of the TV anime as well, both the present and past Gintokis; standing side by side slicing their mummy opponent!!!! Yeah and the timeskip versions of Shinpachi and Kagura in the movie were way better than the timeskip versions of the manga and the TV anime.

Rewatched this a moment ago after four year and man, THIS is the Gintama why I've started watching the show in the first place.
I had to readjust all my scores of the "Battle at Rakuyou" arc and all seasons after that by a little because clearly, they don't compare (except at some times) to neither the previous seasons nor the movie.
It had that perfect mix of comedy, action and memorable moments I missed at times during the Silver soul arc. Plus Spyair during the final clash and another kick ass ED.

If by ANY chance Sorachi screws up the finale of the manga (which I don't think), I will regard this movie as the true final episode.

I always thought Kagura and Shin would turn out to be great people in the future but I guess I was wrong those two need to stay true to themselves.

I kinda guessed the virus midway through but I thought Gin chan was the cause to it not another virus you know how everyone's hair turned white.

It was definitely a great movie and seeing the Shinsengumi grow up was cool as well not to mention Zura turned dark and damn Eli is a real beast now.

overall I think its a must watch if you are into the series like me I give it 8 out of 10.

So what I gathered was this was basically 110 minutes of pure fanservice and orgasmic hype injected straight into my veins? What a fucking joyride. I loved every second of this, from the anti-piracy parody to there being TWO of best boy.
I wish they had kept the future outfits inspired by Gintoki longer, but I love the old ones just as much. The final setpiece with everyone gathering and kicking ass was one of my favorite Gintama fights ever. Well done Sunrise. Showing everyone how to do an anime movie right.

Goddamn, what an absolute masterpiece. It was hilarious but also so heartfelt and emotional. I teared up multiple times and had a huge grin on my face when Genjo Destruction started playing and everyone fought with the Yorozuya. And when they played the 1st opening, I started crying and laughing at the same time.

Ughhhh, I always seem to have this problem with Gintama: it either makes me die of enjoyment or bores me to death, but this movie was PURE ENJOYMENT! It's nothing groundbreaking; it's good old Gintama but everything worked out so well imo.

Shinpachi and Kagura's new designs were absolutely fantastic ("a thing with no sex appeal and a waste of her voice actress LMAO), it had touching moments and the jokes were perfectly timed ("only the glasses disappeared?"!). Towards the end I felt the time travel might become a little too messy but the plot was resolved nicely. They all got back...

The only thing I kinda regretted was knowing that Pray would play during the ending credits... it's a very little detail, however I think I would've started fanboying if I hadn't known it was coming.

Regardless, it was a such a ride that I can't score it lower than this. 9/10.

Had high expectations for this, I thought this movie will be all about Gin's days in the Joi war. It was slightly disappointing, not gonna lie, mostly because of the second half, it just went downhill thereafter. Still, it was a very good movie! A lot of funny and serious moments, in general it was very enjoyable. Emo Shinpachi was hilarious. Ah, it was great to see no-longer-zero-sexual-appeal-Kagura again, too.

This movie was fantastic, probably one of the best arcs/story to come out from Gintama so far.

Considering this is an original from the creator of the manga and without having already published source material at hand, the writing, the comedy (though it's not as much as the TV series have), and how serious things become, this is Gintama at their best.

10/10 one of my favorite anime films to date

My current goal is to revamp all the character details for High School DxD and have all the characters included in the DB.

This goes up to one of the best movies I've seen, not as a standalone movie but more because we've already seen so much of Gintama, the relationships made, the hardships they've faced ... everything.

It's just perfect honestly, the comedy was well placed, the whole time travel aspect was touched on in a fantastic way, the only way you would expect Gintama to do.
So many touching moments, I genuinely did tear up a few times, they sure know how to make all these scenes as epic as possible.
I honestly wouldn't even be mad if this was the ending of Gintama, if it had, this would be one of the best ways to do it.

Kagura in five years is a babe, Shinpachi looks badass!
I do hope we'll maybe get to 5 years in the future from where the series currently is at, it'd be interesting to see all these characters grow up.

I had a feeling "Blight" was going to be Gin, despite all of this he'd still find a way to try and rescue his "past" by sacrificing himself, which obviously all of his friends would never accept.

The ending where everyone eventually helps out Gin beat "Blight" was beautiful, comedy again on point when they disappear for their future selfs to live on.

I wonder if the series we've been watching is that future that they fixed in this movie, that'd be a cool way to put the entire series into perspective, even after 250+ episodes.

What a brilliant movie!! Despite my high expectations, it still managed to completely blow me away with its perfect blend of hilarity, tearjerking moments and goosebump inducing action. It had everything I could've ever wanted.

The future self of Shinpachi looks badass and Kagura hot. Lol when Gintoki joked about Kagura's va. Sougo and Hijikata look really good too. Damn, Eli is ripped now and mayo buddies with Hijikata XD. Lmao at Zura becoming Takasugi and Kondo the same old stalker. The last scene with everyone disappearing with just Shinpachi left without his glasses was pure win.

There were many times I couldn't stop my tears from flowing, especially Otae's scene and when Kagura and Shinpachi were crying.

The fight between past and future Gintoki was really good but the last one was awesome with everyone helping the trio. The best was the Yorozuya and Shinsengumi combo.

All in all, this was an amazing movie. I went from laughing to crying to jumping up and down in excitement to crying and laughing again. This is what Gintama is and I absolutely love it.

I liked the film, many feelings at the end, I think I did not wrong to see it until the end of the anime, after all it does not affect and this film feels like another ending and very beautiful end.

Seeing the characters in the future was great, yorozuya forever!!

Kagura is a very beautiful girl and in a few years she will be even more, seeing her dressed in a dress similar to Gin-chan was really cute.

I love everything about this film!

Story
Animation
Soundtrack
The drama
Action
Bombshell Kagura
Shinpachi looking so cool
Katsura acting like Takasugi
Battousai Sogou
Long haired Hijikata
Badass Gin
Madao appearing in the past like a joke lmao
All of them fighting together to help Gin
Takasugi, Katsura, Sakamoto, and Gin together
Sa-chan being headless hahaha
Gin x Kagura x Shinpachi x Sadaharu hugging each other (this is very touching moment)
Shinpachi’s glasses being only transported back lol

Well except for Kyubei and Tsuki’s short hair, it just doesn’t fit ^^

Overall this is a very good film. The story is done great and they did a great job in avoiding anything that might have an impact on the main story.

That was really well thought out and executed beautifully , if it were not the fact that there were more seasons of Gintama I would have thought that this would have been the last installation in the Gintama franchise , especially since they brought OP 1 back in the end all the while showing tapes from all the episodes

It was okay. Certainly didn't live up to all those 10s I saw on the review page.

Time travel is an incredibly messy concept and nothing concerning it in this movie makes any sense if you think even a tiny bit about. That would be fine if the movie went completely for comedy but it was asking us to take it seriously.

The antagonist was extremely boring, which is quite disappointing with how this series generally has so many fantastic antagonists under its belt. No effort was put forth whatsoever to characterize him.

I also think trying to give all the character adequate screentime ultimately hurt the story and its pacing. This movie really feels like it was created solely for fanservice rather than trying to tell a compelling narrative like the arcs in manga/anime. I would've even been down for something completely goofy like one of the sillier arcs, this series is great at those too, but I understand that would be a huge gamble for a cinematic release.

I'm being very hard on this movie—I guess because my expectations were high from the fan praise—but I did really like the first 15 minutes, that opening was classic Gintama. I enjoyed the timeskip designs, brief as their appearances were, and the twists at least made it not boring to watch. At the end of the day Gintama is always at least a fun ride.

5/10

The hype hindered my experience of this movie. I liked it, it was fun, kinda slow, but entertaining. My problem with it is that I couldnt take the serious scenes as seriously as I did in the series, somehow here it feels forced and not as natural.

It still a very good movie with plenty of humour and great action scenes, that does not fail to entertain at least

8/10 for the humour and action, and fantastic production.

Man, just watched the movie and it's 7 AM in the morning. This was just great.

The first 4 minutes with ''NO MOVIE'' guy or was it Tama back then too? anyway, that shit was just hilarious. Gin-san smacked the hell out of him and went to the toilet for some porn videos LMAO. Sadly got transported to the future.

Future Shinpachi and Kagura are just BADASS. Shinpachi turned into umiboze 2.0 and Kagura changed into a beauty. Of course, this is ALL non canon. Shinpachi can't be cool, he's a straight man.

Oh god, how people see Gin-san made me fucking cry. That face is just way too funny.. I don't know how they didn't laugh at him.

The execution scene was one of the best moments from the movie.
First it was Gengai/old geezer whose head flew off.
Then Katsura with his message ''zura ja nai katsura da''
Then Kondo-san in a cage as a gorilla LOL
Ougo looked fucking GOOD with blonde hair for some reason
Hijkita stayed the same imo but still badass and Elizabeth changed into some weird chicken slaughter monster.

Second half of the movie is where the plot started moving forward.
It was Gin-san the whole time. Traveled to the future was his choice. Traveled back in time in order to save himself and the future.

AND DAMN THOSE FIGHT SCENES! Just incredible. I really wanna see more of Gin's past and the war but that won't happen sadly. I almost died when Gin stabbed himself but it turned out to be Hasegawa xD

Everyone went back to the past in order to save themselves and Gin and their future. That was just GOLD. Bazookas and what more.

They managed to defeat them. Almost had tears in my eyes when Tama broke the time machine and everyone disappeared in a dumb but funny way. And only Shinpachi's glasses disappeared LOL.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was a great movie. Really loved the future cast, the action scenes, the comededy, the serious moments, the emotional moments. Everything was perfectly balanced. The OST was incredible. OP1 playing again in the end.. Everything was just good. The movie is not flawless neither is it PERFECT but it's a GREAT movie.

Score: 8.5 -> 9/10 on MAL
