I'm thinking about reading the manga, but obviously with 112 chapters out, that's an awful lot of reading.

I was wondering how well the anime follows the manga and if it would be possible to pick up on the manga where the anime left off...as well as find out what chapter the anime did leave off on if it is possible?

If someone could answer these questions for me, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Madhouse usually does pretty strict adaptations to the source material.
Also, Vol 17, Chap 93 is where s2 ends.
I doubt there will be an issue if you pick up from there.

It follows the manga very closely indeed - pretty much frame-by-frame most of the time. The only major difference I can think of is right at the beginning of Season 1, where Nishida (Nikuman-kun) needed a lot of persuasion to join the club in the anime version, but joined straight away in the manga.

S1 also skipped the scene with Taichi and the Meijin which was pretty important for the further development.

CG probably meant Volume 7, Chapter 40 compared with Season 1, Episode 21.

For anyone else looking for an answer to the questions asked by Toucanbird in the OP I'm going to diverge a bit from other opinions expressed in this thread. It is true that much of the dialogue and many of the scenes are taken almost word for word and panel for panel from the manga but not all. Therefore I still recommend starting this series from Volume 1, Chapter 1, page 1.
(From cover image and flap text even... although those can be revisited later as well.)

In fact, if you have not watched the first season of the series yet but are looking for a place to start I would personally recommend reading at least the first chapters before watching the first episode. Not only is the introduction of the characters handled in a different way than in the animated series but the very first panels of the manga contain information that was omitted entirely during the adaptation.

To rearrange the words in the OP a bit ... it is not a lot of awful reading ... and for a series which relies a great deal on reading it is not a bad idea to invest a bit of time and effort into that aspect of the story. You can get by without it but I don't think you'll regret having a closer look at those panels first.

For me, doing so has enhanced my appreciation and enjoyment of the series so far. Animation series can stand on their own and in most cases I prefer going in the opposite direction but I think in this case starting from very beginning of the manga - or going back there at the end of the animated series if you've already watched the episodes- offers information and a slightly different perspective which, I think, remain useful throughout the rest of the story...
