How much will MyAnimeList grow?

I know the main purpose of this site is to keep track of everything you've seen. But you you think that eventually you'll be able to use it for streaming anime? Or maybe purchasing anime for digital download?

I'm curious because after reading a thread on here I noticed that a lot of people on this site use torrents and illegal streaming sites. So if MyAnimeList adds legal streaming to this site do you think it can grow and help support the industry?

Pretty sure MAL has its hands full with fixing login problems and making sure there isn't too much lag.

Not sure how to explain this, as I am not an expert in the field. But their servers can hardly deal with it atm, so adding big features isn't the thing they should be doing now.

MAL's fine aside from multitudes of errors and suggestions that will never be taken care of.

We're in the midst of a horrible downward spiral, I'll agree, but I doubt MAL will ever atrophy to the point of death.

I doubt we'll ever get any sort of download/streaming service, as there's quite a bit of paperwork involved and it'd likely end up with membership coming at a price, which I'm sure nobody wants to pay.

Yup, it's great this way. If any more unhealthy change occurs I get a feeling I might be more depressed than when One Manga shut down.

Some truth to this, though I'm not entirely sure if the increasing popularity of anime in the west will outweigh how crappy MAL servers can be, the minimalistic forum in terms of features and how overly opinionated and ignorant the community can be.

That being said i do think another website may take MALs place eventually, lets just hope it's better ^^

I would be sad to leave this site, even if it was for another one with same main purpose for some reason. Can't really explain why though. If it were the case that you could never go back to MyAnimeList.net again.

Nothing's degrading.

The quality of threads/discussions are a result of the community, not the site.

People leave, and new people come. The site stays the same.

That still means that the forums may degrade.

The community including the mods comprise the site.

If another site pops up that lets me keep track of my anime and manga AND has better features to offer than MAL (uuh, so difficult) then I'm on my way.

Hummingbird will destroy MAL....in 20 years.

Okay, now seriously. It's very unlikely that the site ends up dying. It may degrade to a point, but I think MAL has reached a level where this extreme is almost impossible. Anyway and in order to make this even more unlikely, I think there needs to be a more active policy in bringing new tools, modifying aspects of the interface, etc. which I guess is not possible right now because of the lag problems.

On the discussion forums, I guess the good thing about MAL is that these sources are already very diversified (with main forums, specific for any show, clubs, profile comments...). So it's not really a major problem.

Well MAL does get nearly 2% of its search traffic from "oni chichi"...

I highly doubt there will be any streaming.

Besides, I like MAL how it is.

I think that it's a good comunist anime website.

It's much more concentrated in the clubs here. Most of the club recommendations/activity updates I see are "Ecchi this or that", or "Hentai this or that."

It's still a lot commenting and discussing regarding it too.

Hell, the clubs have become irrelevant nowadays.

When I first joined they were pretty damn active.

My favourite time on MAL was around '08-'09. Since then its felt like its been on a gradual decline, especially since none of the suggestions even get contemplated despite some of them being rather good.

Get goddam Danny Choo in here to revamp the site layout and add so many graphics that it takes at least a minute to load on any connection.

I don't want MAL to add streaming. What I would like, however, is for the legal streaming sites to have presence in the series' information. The fansub group lists are nice, but if there are legal options, that information should be easily found too!

I think it would be neat to have a list of all users and a % of how much they affect the site.

As long as extremist fanboys and mindless ranting stay away from this place, I'm sure it'll be fine.
