yeah... is not anyone who you know or your family.

"Exactly, it's not our family or friends, so why should we care?" <- The obvious response.

It won't make a difference, if the World Cup has no one turn up (which will never happen btw), then the only thing that will happen is that the Brazilian economy will take a fucking massive hit, and you'll experience a depression where poverty etc. will only get worse.

It's shooting yourself in the foot.

Pretty sure people call that an elbow.

On topic: Although I am a huge football fan, I myself won't be going, but since the already spent so much money, it will only be a waste if nobody were to turn up. Surprised these events haven't hit the news here yet, maybe they are trying to shove it under the rug.

Anyway, I hope you stay safe OP, it looks very cruel what is happening there, some more light should be shed on this.

This is why World Cups should only be hosted in countries with the infrastructure that can handle it, and being hosted in a country with first world level human rights.

Your first mistake was to publish this in an anime forum, almost no one is interested in football(soccer) here.

But yes, I like soccer, anyway very few people are interested here in MAL.

A lot of British users on MAL fucking love FOOTBALL!
Seriously, I'll discuss Premier League and transfer gossip for hours on end.

I remember reading an aritcle about this in a magazine a couple months back, too bad I lost it cause it offered great insight into this situation.
But we brazilians are kinda between a rock and a hard place: if the World Cup turns out to be a failure, our pride and economy will go down the drain, and if turns out alright, the fucking corrupt politicians will likely take a large share of the income for themselves and spend the rest of the money on absolutely nothing, all while letting the newly-built and expensive stadiums rot and become useless to us, just like what happened in the Pan-American Olympics (is this how you spell it?) in 2007.

I hate football so i wouldn't go anyway.

But i can understand why a country would waste money on something like this instead of thinking about their own people.

Hopefully if you actively are telling people not to go to the World Cup you are posting this in other forums and then thought "Oh what the hell, I'll post in MAL too, the AMERICAN ANIME SITE since maybe 2-3 of the thousands of users actually watches the sport"

Just saying, not exactly the brightest place to post a message discouraging soccer fans ... surely there are better places to "spread the word"

WTF are you talking about? MAL isn't specifically an American site at all and it has many people from many countries.

You are right, MAL is a diverse site, but the fact that the majority is American, and is owned by an American company ... Well, let me put it this way, if I were to start bitching about how Prop 8 in California passed (I really need to start using some new examples =/) I wouldn't begin by looking for support in the Vatican. Just like how if you truly want support, it is somewhat foolish to go to an anime site comprised mostly of Americans when the support you are looking for is in Soccer.

With the help of the Internet I could conclude that:

>The current Brazillian government is corrupt

>The police is corrupt, they do not serve the population and often use violence for no apparent reason. Police brutality has been a big problem in Brazil for quite a while.

>A new Stadium is very expensive, the citizens are not happy for it since they believe that it will not benefit them. http://www.cnn.com/2013/06/18/world/americas/brazil-protests-montague/index.html

>It's not just a small amount of Brazilian who aren't happy. Recently, Brazil had its biggest protest ever.

“On Monday the 17th, more than 230,000 people took to the streets in some of the main Brazilian cities, like São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte and Brasília to protest. The common agenda for all complaints was the increase of the public transport fares, but insatisfaction with corruption, World Cup construction and the precariousness of public services — like health and education — reinforced the might of the movement. It was the largest popular mobilization in Brazil since 1992, when the population asked for the impeachment of then-President Fernando Collor de Mello.”

And also a gif:

TL;DR: Brazilians not happy with the current Government for obvious reasons.

^This is the best part of soccer fans, watching them get butthurt because SOME people call their precious sport soccer instead of football.

HINT HINT HINT.....I'm a Soccer fan!

But I don't take it so seriously that I get butthurt about what people call it.

BTW, you guys can call American football Handegg if you'd like....we don't give two shits.

Although the difference is that, when I call Football Soccer, it's not to make fun of it (well, maybe the butthurt fans, yeah) but not the sport.

You guys call American football "handegg" to make fun of the fans AND the sport.

But whatever...

Yes, it's also called soccer in various nations including the U.S, Canada, Australia and Japan just to name a few.

And we don't call it soccer to make fun of it or because we dislike it, in fact Soccer continues to grow in these countries and many sports fans are coming to like it thanks to the increased popularity.

You know what DOESN'T help though?

When people throw fits about calling it soccer.

What am I congratulated for?

Edit

Maybe you lack a bit of reading comprehension.

User A: says Soccer sucks

User B is European, so he's angry that user A dared to say soccer and tries to correct him by saying the correct word here is football.

User C then proceeds to support User A by saying that it depends on where you live (ex: Canada, USA and Japan. Where Japan would actually be サッカー).

Naruhodo, finally my life is completed now.
But i guess that B is more angry about the fact that A says that this sport sucks more that about the name
So you will stop of loses time on this now?

My point is that in SOME countries Football is called Soccer and that's OK.

But some FOOTBALL/SOCCER fans get angry and butthurt just because we call it soccer.

That's insanely ridiculous.
