I'm planning on watching 'Attack on Titan,' but noticed that the manga is still ongoing with the anime series stating that there will be 25 episodes.
How is that possible?

There are enough chapters to adapt into a 25 episode anime. Whether it'll be an open ending that'll lead to a second season or if it'll have an anime-original ending is still in question.
I'm also filled with pure-hearted ulterior motives.

I'd expect an ambiguous ending, leaving it open to a possibility of a season 2 whilst nicely rounding up season 1.
Don't see many anime manage to pull it off successfully though

- Anime-original ending
- Season two
- Cliffhanger

I lol'd.

But uh, this isn't uncommon at all OP. There's a high chance for a season two since it's the best thing since fire, both in the Western and Eastern fanbase. If I.G. went anime original or pulled a cliffhanger without doing a season two we'd have their heads.

I hope for a Berserk ending with an actual second season in production for later years.

Berserk, the manga, will never end. The author is more than likely going to die before he finishes writing it. You'll never see a complete Berserk.

It happened with Claymore and Berserk. If anything I feel that it is strategy for getting people to read the manga to see what happens next. This is pretty commonplace with anime, from what I have seen.

I honestly prefer a cliffhanger ending for another season than an original anime ending .-. I cannot possibly see how the anime could end this without being a cliffhanger

Low chance for an anime original ending now. They're even using up one whole episode just for recaps. Plus, there are clues in episodes 1 to 10 for events in the third arc.

Also, even if they do such, IG's got such a loving relationship with the mangaka that the manga fandom will probably forgive the transgression.

Not only does volume 1 have prototype manga by the mangaka, volume 2 bonus is also supervised by the mangaka as well as the visual novel bonuses in volumes 3 and 5.

It can't. They're just going to freeze mid-frame around episode 21 or so and you'll have to watch the rest in stills and stick figures.

There will most definitely be a second season; once enough chapters get printed out. Since the Manga is only 1 chapter a month it's pretty hard to get enough for another season.

Each episode is taking around 0.5-1 chapter each episode (Been getting slower recently). It will prob end @ around chapter 3x where a cliffhanger will happen leaving room for a Season 2 to come later in the next few years.

There's just too much they can milk by going with a cliffhanger, if they went an Anime Original, well... Pretty sure Japan fans would have their heads and lose sales.

This is the anime to watch this season, maybe even this year. With that kind of money behind it there is no way that they won't try to milk the cow until the utters run dry.

It better end with a continuation, Anime Original endings almost always suck. Its always something like Eren realizes that Titans are weak against love and gathers the kimochi of all the humans into his fist, then he punches all the Titans ever, at the same time.
Or Superman on one of his patrols through the universe realizes that this planet has a problem, and proceeds to kill every Titan ever by the time it takes you to tie your shoelaces.

This isn't One Piece, Bleached Backgrounds or Nartardo.

We ain't getting fillers(unless its chapter 18.5)

What I don't understand is that, this might be THE anime of the year,(well, maybe excluding Monogatari season 2), how can it have so many uncreative STILLS!?????????//

Nah, I've been questioning this for a long time/since I knew the manga is ongoing.
Hopefully there was a 2nd season, otherwise the 'anime ending' might be worse than the 'manga ending' (like Tsubasa Chronicle).

This anime deserves to last until the manga is 100% DONE. The design, the art, the OST, I want more.

Yeah, seeing how well it's doing (both anime- and manga-wise), I would say they're going to go for a second season that still follows the manga. It'll have a break, to allow the manga to get exceptionally ahead again, and then pick back up.. That's what I'm hoping for, anyway. I would love to see all that's transpired throughout the manga series animated. (Please no anime-original wrap-up ending.)

Just some speculation.

Currently the Episode 11 has just finished Chapter 12. The Anime has also covered Chapters 15-17. So that's 1.4 Chapters on average per episode.

Going by that you could expect it to end around Chapters 36-37. But that's completely ignoring the chapters that are and aren't text heavy and also how long some scenes drag out.

Additionally Chapters 36-37 are right in the middle of the an arc so while there's enough content for this season it's anybody's guess on which chapter it'll end on.

Here are my thoughts on that. I was going to post this in an episode thread in response to the anime's pacing, but I think I have it figured out...

I can't see Shingeki no Kyojin pulling a "Claymore." SnK already has pre-orders up the wazoo and doing an "anime only" ending would only put a damper on their what we can call their next big franchise. I think they'll just stop it on a semi-cliffhanger. As far as where they would stop it, I have my theories. Someone told me it would make for an awkward stop if they didn't create an anime-only ending due to the pacing of the manga, but I have to disagree. I think a pretty good place to "break" it up would be (manga spoiler)
I also think that's a great place to end it since the very next chapter,
I think that's a REALLY good spot to start up the 2nd season. I find this to be the most likely alternative since the second half of the first season will probably start around where Chapter 19 is in the manga. If the anime ends where I think it will end, it will stop somewhere within Chapter 34. I know what some of you are probably thinking..."wait, does that mean the pace will probably slow down since the 2nd half of the manga would only cover 15 chapters?" My answer would be, not necessarily. While it is only 15 chapters, there is A LOT going on in those 15 chapters...so much so that I think 12 anime episodes can cover them without dragging it out at a snail's pace.

Those are my thoughts on how the second half of the anime and the "break" for the 2nd season will be.

Don't forget to include the recap episode that is soon to air (14 iirc). That takes away one episode and might actually slow it down enough to have the series end at the above mentioned spots.

That's the best place to end the anime. A second season could be made after the manga gets far enough. I remember reading somewhere that the manga is apparently "halfway done", so it may end up having 90 chapters or so (probably like FMA).
