Legend of the Galactic Heroes because it's the highest rated one on MAL apparently.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes has not made by Madhouse. They only provided minor animation work assistance for a few episodes, and weren't involved in the production of the series in any way shape or form.

Anyway, I rather enjoyed Tatami Galaxy, Kaiba and Texhnolyze.

Chihayafuru (1&2), Monster.

Madhouse really do the best in Chihayafuru, which is very good imo since I didn't enjoy the manga that much.
And Monster is masterpiece (imo) whatever form it takes

It's not even a contest: Chihayafuru and Chihayafuru 2.

And I'd also say that Summer Wars was pretty damn good as well.

Death Note.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

Although Death Note is a damn impressive adaptation, I'll go with Kaiji. They are pretty much equally brilliant productions but Kaiji is the much more unsung one. Also their work on Hellsing Ultimate is up there near the top. It's hard to choose because they're my favourite studio.

THIS:

Even if it was just the opening for a game. Why? Because they portray the game's various moods and what happens very well, are well animated, and because animal people.
What? Those don't count? Madhouse did animate them. Fine.....
Summer Wars
Because its the best anime movie I've ever seen, I think, as it puts out messages of working together as a family, has cool action scenes involving King Kazma and Love Machine, makes a card game seem epic, can be sad, and was fun.

Not to derail the topic but does Madhouse have any duds (animation-wise or in general)? Everything that I've seen is excellent but I haven't seen everything. I only ask because every other studio has a shit-list of some kind and Madhouse has been the one exception so far in my anime watching.

Reading this thread has made me realise how much of a Madhouse fangirl I am. Nearly all of my top rated anime are from this studio. Their best production as far as I've seen is probably Death Note, but really, I ain't seen nothing yet when it comes to Madhouse's work.

My top 3, even though I haven't completed Monster yet.

Sad that Madhouse production quality is going down in the recent years... Photo Kano? seriously Madhouse?

I would tend to disagree, yeah PhotoKano is a train wreck, but they have always produced the odd show like that. Then you look at Chihayafuru 2 airing now and it's back to usual MadHouse standards.

Ok, I didn't watched Chihayafuru, but also the awful Marvel Anime, and btooom was a disappointment as well for me...

Yeah I feel you there, I was disappointed by BTOOOM! especially. They do occasionally drop the ball and make mediocre shows. They have more than enough quality works out there to justify them being one of my favorite studios though. You should catch up with Chihayafuru when you get time, it's a really addictive show.

There's also Hunter x Hunter. The Chimera Ant arc started recently and Madhouse are doing a wonderful job on it.

Madhouse generally does a pretty good job on their series, but most of the time the original source is the lacky one. Some notable names are Btooom! and Hellsing: Ultimate.

Chaos;Head and Detective Neuro are some notable examples for series Madhouse did a bad job on, and people say their source material are much better, but other than those 2, dunno, maybe PhotoKano?

OT:
Too many to mention, but my favorite would be Casshern Sins. Gotta love the depressing yet beautiful atmosphere. It's just wonderful.

After it comes HxH (2011) and Death Note.

From my list/ratings Wolf Children and Hadashi no Gen are the best works by them.
