Are your top 5 written in stone? Or do they change frequently?

When asked what my five top anime are, I can name 2 easily - Berserk and Hana Yori Dango.

But I feel that for me, a significant amt of time must pass before I decide where an anime fits into my favorites. Lets say I REALLY enjoy something and miss it immediately when its done - but I don't know where it fits in my list until significant time has past. Urges to rewatch and having my thoughts preoccupied with the show, etc, are the signs for me.

there are lots of anime to thoroughly enjoy, lately i'm loving Steins;Gate, Baccano!, and Psycho-Pass, but i feel like I need a REALLY long time to figure out where things fit. Do I just love it? Or does it have hardcore staying power and overwhelming urges to rewatch? (turns into a favorite)

i hope this makes sense. Does anyone else stuggle with this? How do you go about deciding what your favorites are? Is an immediate decision or does it take time?

It took me like 8 months to decide Berserk was my number one, lol. My obsession with it grew and grew and it was undeniable.

so you get the idea. What do you think? Whats your process?

They would change more often if I was less lazy
sexual incest in nisomonogatari - no one bats an eye
romance incest in SAO - everyone loses their minds

Yup, written in stone.

It takes quite a while to find something better than what I already have in my top 5, but I'm constantly looking forward to a series that can :).

Well, for anime, I imagine something coming along, or something I've yet to watch, to replace one of them, but I doubt it. The amount of times I have switched Ghost in the Shell with Eve no Jikan and vice versa is just too many times to count, too, but I think it's going to just stay as GitS.

As for manga favorites, man that'll have to be one fantastic fucking manga to replace one of my favorite manga. I heard Oyasumi Punpun's next volume is its last volume, and I have a feeling it's getting rushed/axed due to Asano Inio's sex change and some controversy behind that, because I read that he is not going to have a job after this. Well, depending on how the manga finishes, it could get dropped out of my favorite manga list, since it's the only ongoing series in my top 5.
I'm also filled with pure-hearted ulterior motives.

Kinda set in stone, my top 5 is not really my top 5 anime and I've watched a lot of anime. I have a long list of favorites and it would be hard to arrange them in order because they are different genres, it might be lopsided to one type of anime, diffferent anime mean different things to me, watch them for different purposes, etc.
So I thought I would use my favorite anime and instead of going by overall rank in my favorites, go roughly by my favorite genres to show which genres are my favorite(also to show more of what kind of anime I like) and to let anime from different genres have a chance, it also made it much easier to choose. These anime are all in my favorites or top favorites, it's just that I couldn't decide which anime to put in there since I have probably over 100 favorites.
Something would probably have to beat one of these in their respective genres for me to think about changing it.

So it's
One Piece - This anime is my number one favorite anime, it's also my favorite shounen, action, adventure, and fantasy anime.
Hajime no Ippo - My favorite shounen, sports, action, and comedy anime.
Nodame Cantabile - My favorite josei, music, SoL, and romance anime.
Natsume Yuujinchou - my favorite shoujo, SoL, and supernatural anime.
Nichijou - And my favorite Comedy, SoL anime.

I don't know about written in stone, but I haven't touched my top 5 anime in about 2 years. And that was to just change one anime...

My top 3 are basically on lock-down though.

My "fanboyism" , not really a word, is way over the top (which isnt really a good thing) when it comes to Gunbuster(both anime), Gurren Lagann , and Escaflowne... I haven't seen anything that tops them.
But it's like what @OriginANIME said that's just my opinion.

Not all 5 of them. The ones that wont move from my top 5 are Bleach&Mirai Nikki and maybe, maybe Jigoku Shoujo(I love all 3 season, used only the first season link since it should be implied I watched and loved all 3 of them).

Hell no, my favorites are never written in stone. They don't change often, but they do change.

They are semi-written in stone. Though my Top 3 will never change. (Fourth stage is still the greatest anime in my opinion, Steins;Gate, and Madoka.)

Well, I can't really say that my top 5 is set in stone. There is always a chance that a certain anime will and overtake the number one spot. You can never really know for sure.

I would say my number one spot (for anime, specifically) is set in stone, at least. Can't really imagine anything taking that over. I feel my top manga will probably stay the same...
But it's true, you never know for sure!

My 3 favorites are unlikely to change anytime soon, while I could see myself remove the 2 other anime. Just recently, I fell in love with Gintama and replaced Code Geass R1 with it.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

My top five doesnt change much, the last time it did change was simply a sequel replacing its prequel, so not a big chance at all.

There was a time when it change quite frequently, though that was when I was new to anime. As it stands now, it'll take something special to knock any of my top five out.

My #1 and #5 are basically set in stone. Madoka will remain #1 because I don't think I'll ever like another anime to the extent that I would spend ~$1000 on merchandise. K-On!! shouldn't even be on my top 5 list, but it's the reason why I started learning guitar and has changed my life significantly. It'll always be #5 on my list for that reason.

it may change over time since I have yet to complete a lot of great series, but I'd say 2 of them won't change
(SnK + clannad AS)

My manga top 5 will probably never change, unless Kishi keep pulling crap in Naruto, then I will remove it.

My top 3 for sure is definitely set in stone, while anything past that will change every now and then.

My top three will always be and remain as:

Gurren Lagann - action, comedy, kamina, and lots of cool inspirational quotes.
One piece - amazing characters, lots of comedy and action, and a whole lot of mystery waiting to be revealed
Hajime No ippo - Ippo's my inspiration!

I've went from:
Elfen Lied, Angel Beats!, Clannad After Story, Ergo Proxy, and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai

to

Steins;Gate, Ergo Proxy, Clannad After Story, Mawaru Penguindrum, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai

to

Neon Genesis Evangelion, Steins;Gate, Ergo Proxy, Serial Experiments Lain, Mawaru Penguindrum

...and I'm predicting I will boot off Steins;Gate for Revolutionary Girl Utena whenever I finish that.

So sure, given the limited amount of anime I've seen, it's going to take awhile before I reach a solid top 5.

Just this once, I'll fulfill whatever your wish is.

They change quite frequently, whereas only the REAL REAL shows actually are set in stone. For example, Steins;gate. It's the only one I can bear to rewatch, it's the only one I'd really set in stone as my TOP. Top 5 changes though all the time. Top 1 would only change to top 2 or so.

I would be surprised if FLCL, Digimon Tamers, or Baccano! came off. But it could happen. Dennou Coil actually pushed off an anime I never thought would come off, so I definitely can't say it's set in stone.

I keep track of my favorites beyond my top 5, and usually my top ten doesn't change. When it does, the top 5 usually doesn't.

No mine aren't really set in stone, I recently rewatched Bakemonogatari and Kino's Journey and I think I like them better than Spice and Wolf and FMA: Brotherhood now, but that is all subject to change, also Beck was my favorite for a while, but I've been rewatching it and I'm not really enjoying it as much as the first time I saw it.
