Hanging Ending A is the most interesting of the bunch, but mainly for darker stories with an air of mystery.

I'll never understand why people deliberately want bad things to happen to the main characters of a show.

It creates tension and worry to see you favorite character at his or her lowest point, and in turn most people would like to see his or her favorite overcome the obstacle and see how said character develops. It can make him or her more dynamic if done right.

I only like endings that feel natural.

like for a tragedy series, it would makes sense to have a tragic ending.

I don't have any preference for any specific kind of endings. I just like endings that feel natural and/or make sense.

- I really prefer happy ending especially romance & slice-of-life themed anime.

- Tragedy A is pretty common for me especially some action thriller based anime.

- As for Hanging ending A & B, I'm not making this up. talk about plotholes & loose ends everywhere till it really blows my mind (like what happened in most of Mobile suit Gundam series).

I'm more of a bittersweet ending kind of guy, so I'm guessing it falls under Tragedy A?
Don't bother if you don't know how special effects were done without computers.

No preference. Any ending is fine, as long as it doesn't kill or harm any of the chicks

I choose same answer as OP
Really, it all depends on the plot and genre of the anime.

For example, Attack on Titan better have a happy ending as that is what the humans strive for. Peace

Code Geass ending is something I was looking forward to:

Depends on the kind of show.

Romance = Happy ending to the max

Drama = Texhnolyze style

The kind of ending where it actually ends after defeating the one main boss/enemy/guy/quest/adventure/etc, and doesen't have an epic buildup to the big boss only to throw in a lackluster replacement as filler that makes the story lose steam. Im looking at you, death note, and sword art online, among others.

Doesn't matter. As long as it's an actual ending and doesn't troll with "READ THE MANGA TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS NEXT HUEHUEHUEHUEHUEHUEH"

It doesn't matter, if the ending is well build i dont care how it ends. Even a open ending can be kind of well build. Good example Berserk, Bad example Pandora hearts. Ow yea and also open endings which of course isn't a ending at all ( Fairy tail, D.greyman)

Happy ending, or Tragedy B (this should have happened in NGE)

If the MC is a retard like the one in School Days then I want him to face a cruel death, not stabbing....how was it call....that chinese method with the water....droping on the forehead.Mhm,I cant remember, anyway I want him to suffer so much that he would beg to kill himself.
Outside of that......seeing same kind of ending it will be boring so I'd like a cycle of it.Tragic, happy ect.

I prefer endings where either

a) I cry.

b) I grin from ear to ear and feel amazing about the anime.

c) I'm completely shocked at how everything ended, then slowly start to smile about how blown my mind is.

Whatever suits the show; one way or the other, don't make it feel like a copout.

Although I've gotten tired of "everybody dies" endings, because too often it's used as a cheap bid for profundity.

The type of ending depends on the anime, so I find it difficult to vote. For example, at the end of Serial Experiments Lain:

Happy endings can work, although I hate them when they feel forced like in Clannad After Story.

However, I generally dislike the hanging endings because A) The series gets discontinued and it just feels incomplete or B) The issues from last season get resolved within the first episode, and the rest of the season becomes uninteresting.

Where is the option for normal tragedy where it has nothing to do with the world being saved?

Dude i like how you respect those endings, while other guys call them shit. I mean would they rather have seen Clannad ended in pain and agony and the para normality thingy not explained for example. What I'm try to say it was not a bad ending, i bed those f*ckers wouldn't know over better way to end the series.

It was unfortunate, really. I liked how After Story went from being an above average quality harem to an anime that focuses on family, but the conclusion really damaged the overall score for it. I loved Serial Experiments Lain though, I thought it was going to be some pretentious "lol 2deep4u" BS, but it was actually a very intelligent, well-made anime with a great conclusion.

I like when a series gives a hint that there will definitely be a next season. Well, when a good series does that.

You know, like those last scenes that say like we'll be back or something. And then it happens, and you are happy.

It would depend on the anime or type of anime that I was watching but I really do like the happy ending over people I liked die.

Generally I would prefer a happy ending and I consider tragedy A to be a type of happy ending as well. Although if a series is short enough that I won't feel super attached to the characters and it fits the tone of the series than I think tragedy B works fine.

Tragedy B.

I'm rather fond of "effort didn't pay off" type of ending, it leaves a melancholic/bitter feel that I don't usually feel for for the average anime.

Really though, as long as the ending matches the story, I don't really mind, Tragedy B is just a rarer type of ending that I'm fond of

It really just depends on what's fitting to the series. I do generally like happy romantic conclusions.
However, for the story itself... I agree with:

Hanging Ending A is clearly the best because making me feel like I wasted hours of my life makes me a happy man.

I just finished Gungrave and found it's ending to be fucking incredible. More endings should be like that. I guess it's somewhere in between Tragedy A and B.

And if any of you haven't watched Gungrave then you should go do it right now.
