Toonami previously announced that FUNimation's One Piece would begin airing on their anime block on May 18. Adult Swim's Toonami schedule currently lists One Piece to air tonight at 1:00am (effectively May 19). The new television run is set to start on episode 207.

I'm sure all the new viewers will be lost if they decide to start at 207.

Cool, well OP is going to probably get another boost in popularity.

Can I just say your signature gif is highly distracting. I only read the first few words and began to watch the girl smother herself in the other girl's breasts over and over..

Great news.

Hahaha starting with Foxy, I'm so sorry new viewers.

Close to W7 EL though, aka the best part by far.

Starting from 207 is a brilliant idea, sure.

Well, there goes any hope of adding to the fanbase...
Well, maybe they'd add another segment for new viewers? I really hope that's the case.

It won't be a good idea at all. There's no way they can cover all of the episodes, and I haven't seen a whole lot of episode in this. So this will be a bust. Bad idea and stupid show.

now...is this the crappy version that has luffy's voice sounding like you wanna take a well sharpened pencil and sticking it in your brain stem?

Both Eng and Japanese dub make me want to do the same.

Smh.

Starting from the beginning would make no sense for Toonami,it would take years to catch up.

They'll be going onwards from 207.

I disagree. Luffy's Japanese voice is great. Maybe slightly annoying when you first start, but she's got a lot of ability whether it's comedy or serious stuff.

Seriously if you don't have respect for Tanaka at the very least after hearing her do Luffy's more emotional scenes then you're just wrong.

She doesn't have to be your favorite VA for you to realize she's immensely talented.

Yeah, such a shame. Well, maybe some people will watch it on TV, like what they see and decide to watch or read the series from the beginning. That's probably what I would do if I was in this sort of situation.

It's not a bad idea to start with 207. Basically they'll do the foxy pirates arc, which was a funny arc and you'll get to know all the crew members, then straight into the cp9 arc which is imo the best arc of one piece. And they could just go back to the beginning later. When they finally catch up to the anime in japan instead of showing re-runs they can just show eps 1-206. Honestly though they won't get any new fanbase because anyone that is up at 1 am in the morning is most likely old enough to know of one piece.

I have seen a few episodes at my friends and they were recent, and I found the VA just as annoying as Gokus Japanese VA

I like where they're starting. mainly because thats where I am right now. One thing they did say in their promo was to go online at funimation and catch up on the series, I just can't wait to watch it on my HD TV instead of my computer

Technically they already aired up to somewhere in Skypiea on TV, it's just that a majority of it was the 4kids dub...

Personally I'm very happy they're starting so late in the series since I've seen the stuff in the beginning so many times already (both dub & sub). Too bad it'll take a few weeks till we get to the really good stuff. Man, it's been so long since I watched Water7 & Enies Lobby.

Well, I don't really mind what I've heard of Goku's Japanese voice, either. So, there you go. I think Tanaka does a great job of capturing Luffy's free spirit personality. So much so that I really couldn't imagine Luffy with a different voice.

You think so? I believe the dub is only at like 260 right now. 4kids really set them back.

That does sound like they are planning for it not to be as popular. I don't think the Davy Back fight arc is a good place to start.

I never realized that. I guess yeah they are planning on gaining viewers through Enies Lobby. I hope they then after seeing how it goes, starts over. I don't know how fast they are dubbing but the dub isn't even done with Enies Lobby yet.

For animes that tend to be a bit more realistic I don't really mind the anime being dubbed and sometimes prefer the dub with an animes like Death Note or Nana , but One Piece is NOT an anime you should be watching dubbed at all.

I'll probably watch the first episode to play my small role in the tv ratings. Having One Piece on Toonami certainly isn't a bad thing for the series and I hope it stays for awhile.

I checked the listing on my television and apparently One Piece is rated as a children's show years 7+. Well this is off to a bad start.

sigh so much fail

op & ed not played all the way...
voice actors don't fit the characters at all (usopp and robin were fine imo)
being rated as a children's show...

one piece didn't need an English dub, the dvds would come out faster if they weren't wasting time dubbing it = ="

That's how toonami is for all shows cutting the op and ed themes.

One Piece is a children's show, suitable for kids 7+, and you're hilarious if you genuinely believe otherwise. You're similarly ridiculous if you honestly think Cartoon Network would ever air subtitled anime.
