Pretty interesting episode. A few of the scenes definitely reminded me of Kaiba.

One of the best shorts ever done in Japan for me, along with Running Man (Manie Manie), The Second Renaissance I & II (Animatrix) and File 538 (Twilight Q). And probably the best work of Masaaki Yuasa.

In every age, in every place, the deeds of men remain the same.

story is this... or my interpretation... baby wakes up in the house simulator which has a mommy simulator as well. this machine tough, operates with living bodies. when body is eaten up (i assume) simulator offline. so, baby wakes up and simulator goes offline and he goes outside, and outside even weirder. anyway, stuff happens and baby gets old and finds "another" machine like he has born in. goes inside, finds a baby, feeds him and stuff and sacrifices his body to the machine for this baby.

"...our faces marked by toil, by deceptions, by success, by love; our weary eyes looking still, looking always, looking anxiously for something out of life, that while it is expected is already gone – has passed unseen, in a sigh, in a flash – together with the youth, with the strength, with the romance of illusions.” - Joseph Conrad ('Youth')

Pretty decent episode, the stry design was quite interesting, the art wasn't though.
I probably regret this post by now.

Quite intriguing yet simple, most of the time. The artwork wasn’t as satisfactory as the previous ones’, but it suffixed for this kind of story.

If anything, I think the title deceived me. I was thinking it would be more cheerful than anything and it ended leaving behind a bittersweet scent lingering.
I think, then procrastinate.
Therefore, I am.

Insane, Daring, Genius. This was the craziest trip ever in anime, and I can relate with some scenes here, this is stuff taken from the deepest parts of the subconscious, and the material nightmares are made off.

This was odd and confusing, but I think I really liked it?

It seems like there's supposed to be some kind of symbolism going on here, but i'm not sure what the short is trying to tell us.

Also, I really liked the art, even though it has a few rough edges, it still definitely had an interesting style.

In my opinion, it was coming of age story with a central theme regarding circle of life and perhaps, rules of nature.

Through his journey,

These are my random thoughts which arose while watching it.My interpretation might be entirely wrong though.

Could Yuasa actually be the second coming of Kuri Yoji? This one really reminded me of something Kuri Yoji would make.

Poor ugly baby all his weird friends kept dying ;(
But that was so interesting. I'm not exactly sure what it meant but I can see stories behind the characters. Does that machine feed on humans so it will work? I have many questions lol but I think he thought it was time for him to go and help the baby who was just starting it's life. Very interesting for sure.

It was better than last episode that's for sure. Also that baby with the hat reminds me of Finn from Adventure Time.

I liked this episode a lot. This is the 2nd short of genius party that I've genuinely enjoyed. When that little tree dog started drinking the kid's piss and eating his feces I was surprised!! I don't quite get the baby machine, but the whole thing seems kind of cyclic. Like the same thing that happened my our baby will happen to the next baby and the next. I don't know if that is sad or noble or if I'm even supposed to attach any feelings to it at all.

Aaaaaaaaaand there's our experimental short. Reminds me a lot of Masaaki Yuasa, specifically Kaiba.

With a name like "Happy Machine," I assume that this is supposed to be some metaphor for raising a child, whom will go through a multitude of experiences throughout their life and will have to try and either enjoy or remember those happy moments for when times aren't as bright. The moment at the end where the figure, whom I think is the baby grown up, steps into the mold for running the other baby's home, seems like a means to say "to take care of a child, certain qualifications are needed to fit into the machine that runs the child's life." Though, it's strange to relate this to a machine, since it makes it seem like the act of child care of mechanical in nature. Or, perhaps this is more so talking about the processes and behind-the-scenes activities that pays the bills and keep lights on.

This is just speculation of course, as I have no real idea what is being talked about here, but the imagery, at the very least, is quite fascinating. The most interesting moment was when the baby was running from the flame. Normally, you'd have people running from the dark, but instead, the baby was fleeing from the light to hide under the sheets, as if the dark would provide some sense of protection. It might be due to the fire being harmful, as if knowledge of things known was somehow scarier than living in the unknown, where you bury your head and hide with what is the most comfortable. It's sort of strange, but it was certainly an interesting moment.

Could this have been an inspiration for Adventure Time? The baby with the white bunny mask reminds me of Finn, and the long-legged walking thing reminds me of Jake. The designs seem too similar to be just a coincidence... Plus, there's the old man at the end with a prosthetic arm. The beard design is almost identical to that of old Finn.

To be continued? But this one was the most interesting so far. I'm assuming the fire and it burning out as well as the caterpillar and both getting eaten are metaphors for moving on like taking off training wheels off your bike

pig baby man adventures. much more my speed, and more in line with the others as apposed to the last one, I feel pretty confident that the previous episode is just gonna be an outlier and I'll enjoy the remaining one just as much as 1-4 & this (6) and likely agree with a lot of the comments I saw there about liking the anthology in spite of that episode lmao, with it defo being the weakest one.

@CoolCatCraze I was thinking this the whole time for sure! Yuasa ended up making an episode of Adventure time too, so it makes sense.
