Hey everyone, just wondering how everyone got into anime (boredom, friends, etc.)

I'll start: Pokemon (first, first, first season ever) (if I remember correctly) and I got into it because um...a channel I watched often aired it.

My friend and I were watching AMV Hell 3, and a few months later I watched The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. It just went on from there.

I guess my very first anime would be Princess Mononoke, I saw it back when it first came out. However, I really got into anime only recently, a little more than a year ago.

I had a friend in High School who was a fan and talked to me about it a little bit, but I always dismissed it as a hobby and never thought I would actually get into it. Then, I saw my sister watching Naruto and one thing led to another, I guess.

I've been a fan of oversized robots since way back, Transformers being my favorite show as a kid, and thus I ended up watching bits and pieces of Robotech as well. In high school some friends were into anime so I saw snippets of Trigun and was loaned some DBZ tapes (which I actually enjoyed way back then)

Eventually I figured I'd see Robotech all the way through and find out what all the fuss was about regarding some more widely-known anime titles like Cowboy Bebop and Trigun. Things just ballooned out of proportion from there, and then foolishly paying for Bleach and Naruto on ebay led me into the world of torrents and fansubs and all hell broke loose.

As a kid I used to watch Transformers alot but I stopped after sometime....not sure why O.o
But in my mid-teens my friend in high school could not stop talking about DragonBall Z and he pretty much forced me to watch it.. It was the start of the cell games and after some fight scenes and getting to know some characters I was hooked and after a while purchased the set including Dragonball...don't know how many times I've watched it now but that's how I got into anime (n_n)

I was on an Evanescence messageboard and there was a thread for Fullmetal Alchemist and I posted that I had only seen a few minutes of it and was completley lost so I gave up on watching it and everyone was telling me how great it was and I should give it a chance. So that night I saw it was on Adult Swim and I watched it and was instantly hooked.

I was a Pokemon kid, but that isn't what got me onto the Internet searching for fansubs. :P

I watched Fullmetal Alchemist on Adult Swim and crazed over that for a few months. At the same time, I was watching Naruto on CN. Around episode 30 I got tired of waiting every week for a new episode and searched for more episodes online. Lo and behold, I found some fansubs and my anime viewing was never the same again.

This.

While I did watch Dragonball Z and whatever else was on at the time, Cardcaptors (yes I watched the dub, shoot me if you wish) back in 1999, and since, i've always wondered "What kind of style is that?".

Between that, I saw a bunch of things that aired on Cartoon Network (I only really remember Zoids however). Inuyasha came around... and I watched all of that x.x

From that, FMA, to FLCL... and I saw the very Last Episode of Eureka Seven one night.. and I looked around for it online... and well; after that was Lucky Star in September of 07, and here I am now.

If you're wondering, Yes I've watched every ep of the original version of CCS, and the two movies. As long as it is, it was well worth the Winter break I spent watching it over again ^^

Well I used to always watch My Neighbor Totoro as a kid, but at the time I didn't know what anime was.

Later around 2001 on New Years Eve (an easy time to remember) my cousin said something like "An anime called Inuyasha is about to be on TV do you want to watch it?" I used to always make fun of her for watching it (though it's probably because everyone else did the same >.>), but I decided to watch it. After it was over she asked what I thought of it and I said I wouldn't mind watching more. Of course that made her happy and even me as well since I didn't really have anything to do around the time. Although it wasn't until a few years later that I heard of fansubs. Thank god for CN. That made me busy for a while.

It's also a bit funny that it took about a year for me to discover my brother (who lived in the same house) also started to watch and like anime. Shows how close we were >_>

A handy little outline of my anime watching life

- Started watching Pokemon
- Lost interest in Pokemon
- Tried to watch Inuyasha on a friend's recommendation, couldn't
- Tried to watch DBZ on a friend's recommendation, couldn't
- Tried to watch Naruto on a friend's recommendation, couldn't
- Became a self-proclaimed "anime hater"
- Watched Firefly, loved it, heard Cowboy Bebop was similar in a lot of ways
- Watched Cowboy Bebop, loved it
- Forgot about anime for a long time
- Accidentally watched a Puni Puni Poemy AMV on Newgrounds
- Watched Puni Puni Poemy, laughed several times, got interested in Excel Saga
- Watched Excel Saga, loved it
- Read Excel Saga manga, loved it even moar
- My interest in anime grew, etc., boring shit, you've already stopped reading by now, I'm sure

My first ever anime was Pokemon, but I didn't know what anime meant back then. A year and a half ago, I was watching Adult Swim and Inuyasha came on. I didn't feel like waiting so long for the new episodes so I got online and while looking them up, I came across a bunch of other anime that looked interesting and the next thing I knew I was going from one anime to the next.

I started watching anime when I was a little kid, prolly around 7 or 8. (I was born in 1984).
My first series was probably either Voltron or Robotech.
I've been hooked ever since, tehe....

Started watching in the mid/late 80s while really young thanks to an older brother watching Voltron, Robotech and Transformers.

But I finally became aware of anime and got hooked by Dragonball Z and Sailor Moon in the early 90s thanks to a small UHF channel. I thought Piccolo's Special beam canon was the coolest way to kill someone, and Sailor Mars' transformation made me feel funny down there. Been watching anime ever since.

I used to be a major Inuyasha fangirl. It wasn't my first anime (that would be Digimon and Shaman King thank you very much) but it was the first one that I just insane over. We're talking foaming at the mouth, wapanese, cosplaying insane. I'm a little ashamed...and proud all at once. I will not deny my past. It has made me who I am.

Anyway I basically discovered other anime in my desperate struggle to find moar Inuyasha. Eventually with a few anime gurus I picked up along the way, I started watching better quality shows, developed my own style (as far as the type of shows I'm more likely to watch) and the rest is history.

Started watching it in 1989 as a 3 year old kid on Saturday mornings but wasn't addicted to it yet since there was only a few shows on that where anime and being 3 I had no idea what I was watching anyway haha. Wasn't till my dad got HBO and Cinemax years later and I saw Vampire Hunter D that I started to become more interested in it. Anime was played a lot back then on those two channels late at night so it gave me something to watch in the summer time. Bought a lot of VHS tapes and started learning about IRC (XDCC downloading XD). Then Toonami on cartoon network came out and was on at the perfect time of the day. That's probably when I truly started to become addicted to Anime. So I guess somewhere between 1995 and 2000 is when I became a hardcore Otaku.

Why I got into anime I'll never know. I guess it could be because the cartoons seemed far more mature (ie. blood, seriousness, mecha, romance) then the American cartoons that where playing at the time. As a kid I was really into mecha shows like Transformers and the original Gundam, not because of the story but because of the cool suits lol. It wasn't till I became a teenager that I could rewatch it and appreciate the story.

Usually, I'd reply with the "DBZ got me hooked," but right now I'm not too entirely sure. Thinking back, I'd assume it was Ultraman Tiga (not anime but still weeaboo shit).

I recently saw a photo of me in an Ultraman shirt playing with a Ultraman figure when I was like 4 or some shit. I don't even remember any of episodes yet I can recall Power Ranger moments so I'd assume I liked Ultraman before the PR, even though PR aired before Ultraman.

I've been watching anime since before I even knew what anime was. Back when DBZ and Sailor Moon were still in their prime. (ah, good times.)
Anyways, It wasn't until I decided to sneak and stay up one school night and watch TV that I discovered the wonderful world of Adult Swim (when It was still good). Inuyasha was playing and at first I was all like "Man, This looks so Stupid!" As I skipped through the channels though I had this strange indescribable urge to flip back to AS and watch Inuyasha. And after that I was hooked. When I went online the next day to find out what this Inuyasha was I found out it was a Anime and not a Cartoon. So I started looking into anime and then Bam! I was hooked. That is only on Adult Swims and Toonami's Anime. It wasn't until freshman year of High School when I discovered a Naruto AMV on Quizilla that I was introduced to a hole new level of Anime. But that's a entirely new and very long story so I'll leave it at this. ^^

When I was still a 4-5 years old, we had a lot of kid anime here on television, like Maya the bee, Captain Tsubasa etc. After that when I was 10 we had Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon, I watched both, but didn't know it was called anime.
Around 3-4 years ago one of my friends showed me a manga, Devil & Devil. She said i would like it, and I did indeed. So I began looking around for other manga and found DNAngel. On the site where I download it from, I saw a link to the episodes fo the anime on Youtube. I watched it, liked it, so I began watching anime :)

My earliest memories of anime come with Maya the Bee and Vicky. However these shows I watched because they were interesting. There was not difference between them and Babar. Suddenly, the mornings of 1993 got inhabited by the Warrior of the Moon, the Love and the Justice (Sailormoon). That was the turn over for me, because I could easily distinguisht that those cartoons were not like Bugs Bunny and so on.

I only started to watch original subbed anime around 3-4 years ago, but till then I watched everything on tv. It was not until 17 that I enjoyed my Saturday mornings sleeping, because I had to watch Pokemon!

As a kid dude I watch DBZ, Pokemon, and Sailor Moon almost non-stop, then when I went into Jr. High I stopped watching TV. When I finished high school I had nothing better to do, and while browsing some forums somewhere someone posted a link to Elfen Lied and that Dokuro chan show, and hence I became an addict.

I was bored. It was a weekend and I had nothing to do. I turned on the TV, and Fullmetal Alchemist episode 13 was on...so I watched it. That was all it took. To this day it's one of my favorite episodes from the show so that might have had something to do with it. Oh, this was back in...2006? 2007? Whenever FMA's first run on Adult Swim was.

Okay, not exactly.

That's a tough one for me. I don't know exactly how old I was, but I started when Toonami was still running back in the early 2000's on Cartoon Network. Shows like Tenchi Muyo, Gundam Wing, Inuyasha, DBZ (of course) and Outlaw Star were my first animes' I had ever watched religiously every day after school. Of course I watched Pokemon too like it was my job, but I know people still probably debate whether it's a cartoon or anime, but regardless I loved it.

After DBZ and all those other shows were over, I kind of drifted away from anime. I never got into later sequels of those like DBGT (although I know exactly what happens from friends telling me) or any of the Gundam series' after Wing and Endless Waltz. I still watched Pokemon, but I grew out of that by the time I was in 6th or 7th grade. Then around December 2006, I was watching TV in the living room and my mom was flipping through channels then WAM!...I saw like 5 seconds of Bleach 17 where Ichigo and Renji fight. I was in awe until my mom changed it again...I was like "No..." and jumped up and ran back to my room to turn it on. And that's how I started and why I am here today. Thanks mom XD

Pokemon. It was my gateway drug. Then after I was addicted to Pokemon for a little while my friend told me about this "really awesome show". Turns out it was DBZ, and it was awesome! O_O
With that, my eyes were opened to the anime world. I started looking at other series and branching out. I think my next big thing was Weiss Kreuz, but I coud be wrong. It gets kinda hazy after DBZ.
