Freaky episode, but it was a good one. Maybe we'll get to see more Himitsu episodes now.

The episode was creepy but interesting. It reminded me why I enjoyed this series so much. Hopefully the next episode won't take so long to come out :)

Reflections are the new bane of crime.
Episode was pretty disturbing though; I felt like vomiting.

That was a bit disturbing, definitely not something for me.
Shame for Soga though, he really liked that girl, not as much anymore :/

On the other hand the surgeon wasnt really in the wrong, he did exactly what people wanted, they wanted the modification after all.

This episode was full of crazy people, those wanting to have those body modifications and those who were enjoying the "show".
Too bad for Soga to fall in love with that girl.

Well, not in the wrong only, it should go without saying, depending on "your sense of values" (as the female character undergoing the body modification said at the end of the episode).

I don't like such body modifications either for myself or the look of them on others, but I dislike most of the lifestyles other people lead and that doesn't really matter. I still believe they should be perfectly legal as an option for someone to choose, but only in a licensed and sanitized surgical facility with government or some form of regulatory oversight.

The ethical, ideological, values-based issue in this case may have been over body modification and the rightness or wrongness of it or whether it's desirable or to what end, but the only actual legal issue was the illegal surgery being performed by someone who was no longer permitted to perform them because of his injury. This is because, as evidenced by the other woman's death, it was clearly unsafe for patients.

All that said, it's one of those things which can remain technically illegal on the books but enforcement will be severely lacking since it can come down to a private contract between two or a small number of parties and performed in a private residence or facility. It's like making suicide illegal in that sense. Anyone still determined to do it and willing/able to keep it private can freely do so as there's no realistic mechanism of enforcement. But once it becomes something that gets videotaped, promoted, and circulated around on the internet or in flyers, like the previous elderly suicide case, then there exists a paper or digital trail for law enforcement to act upon.
