Volbeat - Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood

Discovered this band in July this year by randomly browsing last.fm . I checked their most-played song Radio Girl and was surprised how nice it sounded so I went and looked for the two albums that were released until then. Later GG&CB was released and it was an instant fave. Danish Rockabilly Metal, another great new discovery thanks to last.fm .

I changed the topic title from 2009 to 2008. Hope you don't mind.

Still haven't decided on my fav album of the year yet. I would definitely say that Thrice is my favorite artist of the year though, capping off the Alchemy Index project very well.

Mhmm, let's see. Choosing one is really tough, it's pretty much a toss up between In Flames "A Sense Of Purpose", Girugamesh "MUSIC", Dir En Grey "Uroboros" and Mucc "Shion"....

I don't really have the "best" of the year, since there were a lot of great stuff.

I guess it would be split between "Volbeat - Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood", "Scar Symmetry - Holographic Universe" and "Keldian - Journey of Souls"

As usual, I just haven't heard enough yet. I wouldn't be able to give a good answer until the spring or so.

I thought you'd get the singular / plural thing but whatever.

Disturbed's Indestructible is probably my second-fave album of 2008.

Artist Of The Year 2008 is definitely "In Mouring" after giving one of the best debuts ever made to the world. <3
Whoever likes Progressive Death Metal or fans of Opeth might want to try them out.

For Albums I already wrote some text in the Metalhead Club's 2008 topic,
for changes and including of other genres (which are nearly nonexistant) I made this:

horizontal read.

Equillibrium, Die Apokalyptischen Reiter and Der W showing me again how wonderfull german music can be, not only compared to what most of the country seems to be listening to. D:

Still need to get the Machinae Supremacy Album.

huh, pretty awesome album you have there, especially Sagas and Signs of Existence, try Arsis - We Are The Nightmare if you already didn't.

For what concern me, I have still to try some more 2008 albums :x

Scar Symmetry - Holographic Universe

Even became my favourite album of all time. Ghost Prototype II is without a doubt the best song I've ever heard.
Melodic Death Metal, and I guess it'd be safe to call them a bit progressive as well.

I will have to go for Shiki for another year.

I love his new album Rebirth+ that got released this C75 today.

The vocal tracks have always been a turn-off, but his melodic trance tracks are beyond awesome to my taste of music (which is probably like 'lol u' to most of you HR/HM fans and whatever.).

Looking forward to the next album already~

This has to be the best day of this year for me. :v

I'll have to go with Fire on Fire, and their new album "The Orchard". Most of the members were part of Cerberus Shoal, of which I'm also a fan, so I've been following them for several years, but this might just be their best music yet. Beautiful folky stuff.

Good overview on the label's website, with samples, video clips, and whatnot:

Whatever Masami Okui released. :D

Kidding.

Zo! and Tiggalo Love the 80's? Little Brother's And Justus For All?

Honestly, I have no idea...I was out of it, musically last year. I spent most of my time checking out older music and filling in discographies for artists I've liked but didn't have all their work.

Coldplay's Viva la Vida gets my vote. There's an artistic quality to the album that people rarely find in music these days. I highly recommend listening to Cemeteries of London, Lost!, 42, Viva la Vida (awesome video is awesome), and Death and All His Friends.
