The scene of their death reminded me a little of the musicians in Titanic, when they played while the ship was sinking… only better. That was one epic moment indeed.
I tell you when I started One piece it was merely because it’s long, and I wouldn't have to wonder what to watch for the next 10 000 years or so. I never expected I will like it that much. Oda is someone we can all learn from, when it comes to storytelling and especially character development. Yeah... There are flaws, sure, but episodes like this one show he knows his shit.
I like Brook’s story so much partially because of the way he acts – see, he spend f*ed up 50 years surrounded by fog, silence and his dead crew, but he does not whine about it all the time. In fact he is a funny guy and I love that about him. It gives dept to the character, his story, and the meaning one can find in it. To me at least.
Good work. Good episode. This is how you make a flashback!
And the song is quite catchy.

Still as touching as ever. This is the kind of stuff that makes an anime stick out from its counterparts.

Very touching scene with the song and all. I really hope after this is all over it shows them going back to visit Laboon.

Dammit! This episode always makes me cry! Robin's and Brooks' backstories do terrible things to my tear ducts!

(Great, now I get to see it three times: once back when I read it in the manga, once when it was on the Japanese cable channel weeks back, and now in my native language! ;__;)

Oh, One Piece why you gotta do this to me? ;-;

I was expecting feels anyway, and I got them in buckets...but that was also some pretty heavy stuff right there.
Especially when Brook was counting down from Quartet to Solo as the last of his crewmates died.
I'm so happy he's found new friends now and doesn't have to isolated for a further 50 years.

I wonder what actually happened to his Captain in the end...sure, it's implied that he died, and he'll likely be dead after 50 years but I wonder if he died straight away??

Honestly his past was handled perfectly- backstories is one of the things One Piece excels at imo.

The emotions throughout the entire flashback was just building up and I ended up sobbing like a bitch at the end of the song, like good Lord, watching them drop like flies was hard to sit through. To make it worse was it was recorded, so Laboon's going to hear their bodies dropping... ಥ﹏ಥ

I feel like the Rumbar Pirates represent something really endearing. They've given me some of the most complex emotions I've felt in the series. Even before seeing the backstory I cried hard two episodes ago when Brook simply took to the piano. With Brook's sadness comes beauty and happiness. Like Yorkie said this very episode "Don't nag about the past, pain is proof you're still alive", and similarly, I think Bink's Sake holds the same message. Say goodbye but don't look down, the sun will rise again, we may as well be happy because we'll all be bones one day anyways.

I had already known what was implied by Brook living on his dead crews ship but actually seeing it made it so much more real. He was trapped for 50 years on a ghost ship, unable to leave. He was forced to move all of his friends whom he remembered each and everyone to their grave. And he was forced to live out the memories of his crew every day. He dreamt of them and he saw his past in the now empty dining hall. There was no escape for him. It's so clear why he battled with suicide. What a horrible existence, but like my first paragraph and this episode implied, pain is simply proof you're alive and if you hold out and don't look down the sun will rise again. Brook is finally able to play the Rumbar's music to another filled dining hall of pirates. He's waited this long to see Laboon and meet new friends and for him to be able to play his pirates final song and have a new generation sing along is so beautiful. It's what the Rumbar Pirates are all about. Holding out for your suffering to become bliss.

This beauty in sadness even continues to the entirety of their final song. All the pirates smiling and cheerfully dancing and singing even in their last moments. Being wholly present with no regrets and recording a song for Laboon. They themselves put their hope in Brook's devil fruit working, just like how Brook put hope in Laboon waiting for them.

I really love the emotions Brook's made me feel. It's something fiction hasn't given to me before, maybe life hasn't either, and that's beauty from sadness to this degree. A melancholic happiness. To sing Bink's sake through the good and bad times and make it through, or accept turning to bones. Whatever happens, happens. It's like facing tragedy directly and making the absolute best of it and that itself is beautiful. I'm going to start singing Bink's sake in my lowest moments.

There's certainly a theme of living through your peers, Yorkie and the Rumbar live through Brook's music and Brook, I'm sure, will live through other when it's his time to go.

Some side notes,
the Rumbar totally got infected with the disease Nami did.
we could see Yorkie held Zoro's opinion on what a captain has ought to do, "That’s what it means to be captain isn’t it, don’t lose yourself. If you waver who can we trust”, as we saw when he only showed strength in his bed until everyone but Brook left.

To say the least, this episode left me completely devastated. There were so many moments that left me on the verge of tears throughout this one episode but the Rumbar Pirates' last rendition of their favorite song to send to Laboon from beyond the grave absolutely crushed my heart. So this is the real emotional weight behind Bink's Sake... It was simply masterful and I'll leave it at that ❤

Dang, this episode was incredible. We roughly knew what was coming but it didn't make it any less sadder.
Hopefully Captain Yorkie is still out there somewhere too.

One Piece flashbacks are literally the best part of the series for me.

This was top notch in the feels department. I feel like laughing and dancing and crying and yo-ho-ho'ing all at the same time. Each of the Straw Hat's backstories are so good, but Brook's has especially hit all of the right notes.
