| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Guess I'll start again. Very impressed with new city. The snow falling was ++++++. Nephry is so cute! I like Jade's sister. :3 Really nice girl. Jade's past--------------->T_T Too bad he was so powerless and what a explosion+fire+drama. Very nice! Liked, liked, liked the whole past and explanation of Jade Curtis as a character. Question: how does it compare to the game? Once Jade's sister Nephry is MOE and Jade as a kid MOE. 1. Jade's sister Nephry.............*nose bleed* like her cuteness. 2.Jade as little kid. Cute :3 1.  2.  Sensei Nebilim.......T_T Apparently this person is none other Peony ruler of the water city Grand Chokmah. Thanks to Blaze-san for info. :) After subs thoughts So Jade city where he is born is Keterburg. Interesting city. I would like that people start talking about this city and how different is it in the game design of it!(For those who played the game as I like to see who those people think.) So the Tartarus' engine fails. They never really explain the exact reason just to assume that it fails of mechanical complexion. Hhaahahhahah when Anise said she want to marry the owner of the house as she found out that is the Imperial Royal Peony who owns the place. As you Luke is worth garbage to her. Guess Anise is still freaked that he is a clone? Nephry Osborne. Found so cool stuff about her from here and her Seiyuu is Mariko Suzuki. Pretty cool go here for all info on this series from the game perspective. I found it simple: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tales_of_the_Abyss Now that I think about it Jade's past is really bad. He wanted absolutely to use the 7th Fonon and its artes yet he got over consumed by the power greed. Thus he overdid his experiments which in turn blew up the place where he was doing them and killed his sensei Nebilim. There is more to it. Apparently that is also the reason why he wanted to perfect the fomicry to create clones this is simply because the sensei never lived and Jade failed at the replica thus not saving sensei. Dist's real name is Saphir Ortion Neis and he is specialist of fontech? Why did he change his name anyways? BTW Very cute scene how Dist modified Anise's Tokunaga to become larger when responding to her fonon frequency. Mieu is cute when sleeping. :3 Poor Jade having to pay Sins for things beyond his own control. My final verdict is Jade was just overcosumed by greed for power and the thirst of knowledge. 10/5 because well explained Character of Jade Curtis known as Dr. Balfour. BTW, any girls watch this series falling in love with Prince Peony? He just seems the right taste for girls watching this anime. You know the blond hair/blue eyes. |

This scene made me think that Dist is not that bad of a person and could have been manipulated by Van or someone into who he is now in the story. Also Anise is cute there and overall very nice and cute scene.  |

| I liked this episode a lot! Jade is my favorite character, both in the game and in the anime, so an entire episode dedicated to him (mostly) is awesome. <3 Peony looks really cool! [: That whole Dist and Anise this is way too cute, too. |

Trust me, it's worth it finally figuring out why he's scared of girls so much. ;) Anyway, I find Emperor Peony hilarious since he's one of Jade's good friends and all. I hope they show the conversation that happens later where Peony named one of his pets "Jade" and it got lost. xD Peony: "What if my cute little Jade fell down the stairs and broke his neck! What if my cute little Jade got roasted in the kitchen-" Jade: "Please stop that, it's very disturbing." Peony: "Don't worry, you're the non-cute Jade." IMO, one of the best quotes in the game. :D |

The flashbacks really explained things better than just Nephry talking in the game. Anyway, this episode shows a clear example of inconsistency between the Japanese and English versions. The whole Wyon vs Ortion thing... I wonder why the name was changed to Ortion in the first place. Also, about Dist (Major Spoilers): Looks like next episode covers until Grand Chokmah. The fight with the replica of Nebilim if the make it happen, then I would be most glad to see it and its results although I am sure the replica gets killed since it goes wild. |

| Good episode. It's great to know more of Jade's past, at least his nickname has been made clear now. Not sure what to think of Peony, though that laugh sounded like it was filled with evil intent. |

| With all this talk about Professor Nebilim, it makes me wonder (for people who've played the game intensely), if we'll see you-know-what in the future. Although probably not, as that was more a side quest and they just went into Jade's past this episode. |

| Saphyr is NOT called Saphyr Ortion Neiss, but rather Saphyr Wyon Neiss. The reason why the English game changed the pun was because the game never mentions Saphyr by his full name. So they thought they could be funny and changed the reference to something else, instead applying the Ortion to Dist Ortion Neiss or something of the sort (which is flat out wrong and lame pun). Of course, that meant no one could truly get Jade's comment of "I should have known he was involved ever since I heard Ortion cavern", since they never called him by his full name anyway. They sure managed to make Emperor Peony look like a real bad guy. He's certainly not your average monarch but still...less evil please. I'm thinking someone confused being mysterious with being evil. noteDhero said: It's funny how lacking a little recap can hurt so much. They should have considered showing a map between location transitions... would have looked neat and would have helped people get their bearings of where the hell they are supposed to be at. In the game it's easy to know where you are, but since they have to jump locations to get to the important story parts, it seems a little disjointed.And does anyone else feel like the show just skips a whole lot of stuff between episodes. | It's so nice that I've seen this episode today - it has been snowing all day long in my city (Moscow) today, and now everything is white and fluffy and a little sparkling ^___^ I like that Nephry wears glasses like her brother - they both can't be called just "cute", yet very attractive in their special manner. For those who have read Tolstoy's "War and Peace" - they suddenly reminded me of Andrey and Marya Bolkonsky. :) But looks like Nephry is a bit afraid of her brother =( The scene where Jade and Dist tried to revive Professor Nebilim was exactly like Al and Ed trying to revive their mother in Fullmetal Alchemist, the fomicry circle=the transmutation circle. Well, this episode has been full of reminiscences for me, but I liked it anyway. Has the word "fomicry" derived from "phonic"+"mimicry"? |

And the representation of Ketersburg was just like the game. Including most of the dialogue scenes, like the one with anise and her comment bout marrying the guy in the mansion who we find out his emperor peony the ninth. Jades past how ever in my opinion was a little rushed. The representation of his past, including how he became a devil, his meeting with Nephilum, how he burned down the mansion, and his ultimate goals of attaining the power of fomicy and using it to slowly bring him self into madness with it was a little more fleshed out in the game. On part in paticular was "dists true motives" I believe it was shown in this part of the game, but im not getting ahead of my self, as they may still decide to include it in the anime at a later part. But i hope to god they don't cut it out. Either way, still a critical point in the anime that they adapted and used a full episode for. I believe there going to end this back story on this episode any ways. But there is more bout nephilum that actually comes to light in the game, but it becomes more or less nothing more then a critical side quest and also the "ultimate" boss of the game. But i doubt they will adapt that. Looking forward to the next episode. Where the group finally meets the metropolis city of water "grand Chockmah" |

| I feel that it was a bit rushing for all of it to fit into one episode.. But well they manage to convey the gist of the backstory for Jade. Why is that so highly praised Peony smirking like that so much ?? Mieu is so cute.. I'm growing to like it more and more. |
