What's been made clear is that "gift" is basically a blanket term for any special ability. It can stem from innate characteristics of a person, objects that confer abilities, and possibly acquired powers. The first may or may not be transferrable, and it indeed may even vary by the specific gift. The second is clearly so, though there may be locks or limitations that prevent certain items from being freely used by others. The third is much the same as the first. It's also possible that anything from the little garden is transferable, while gifts from outside are not, or even that everything is transferable (it would certainly be interesting to see Izayoi lose his powers). Still, no definite answer there, and if I were the author, I wouldn't give one. Not so early in the story at least. The cards appear to act as a storage and retrieval mechanism for item-based gifts that would otherwise be too bulky, or somehow otherwise impractical, to carry around. Innate gifts and small items would obviously need no such thing, and falls in line with what we're seeing so far. |
