a main character who isn't a spineless pussy. Why do the main chars in so many survival manga have to be such stereotypical "good guys" who rarely (sometimes never) hurts or kills others? It's often pretty unrealistic considering the situations they're in.
Anyway, as long as the manga is good and the main isn't a wimp I'm satisfied, it doesn't matter whether they are total assholes or just passive observers, as long as they have the balls to do what's necessary. A good example of a great main is Kurono Kei from Gantz, sure he's a bit wimpy in the beginning but he mans up when he has to and becomes quite the badass later on.

Kamisama no Iutoori - the first season has 20 chapters, the 2nd season started recently in a weekly manga. The characters and art are amazing.

Hmm the main from Suicide Island reminds me of Kuruno, but the manga isn't a play or die kind of survival manga.
I'm also filled with pure-hearted ulterior motives.

Btooom!

I entered the thread expecting to say Btooom!, but

Why do the main chars in so many survival manga have to be such stereotypical "good guys" who rarely (sometimes never) hurts or kills others?

Sounds like Btooom!

Was gonna say this. He isn't spineless (well, he starts out more wimpy but mans up a lot later on) - while he doesn't want to kill others, he does step up when he needs to.

Good enough for me, Suicide Island peaked my interest as soon as I saw it was by the same author as Holyland so I'm gonna start reading it as soon as possible.
