its the look of something that can never match up with Kenji Kamiyama's work, don't they dare replace may fav characters' picture with ones from these, they should just create another character profile for this series

i may sound childish but still

It looks...meh, I was expecting another TV series so I'm a bit disappointed by this; I also can't tell if this is meant to be a SAC prequel or movie prequel, although going by the hair colour I'd say it's SAC.

Still, it could be good.

Perfect.

Had a feeling it would be a prequel, I'm so hyped.

I can't really get used to Majors design at all...

...I'd also love me some voice sampling...seeing as pretty much all have been replaced, probably _the_ hurdle I'm seeing...next to that porn music in the trailer lol

Well, probably better than a TV series. Higher quality is preferable to length.

Trailer looks like it will be a solid addition to the series. Hopefully.

Every time I see Maaya Sakamoto working on a project where Yoko Kanno should also be, but isn't, I die a little inside...

I watched the PV and the OP and......................................................................the soundtrack is fucking awful. I hope the show is actually good, I want it to be good. But somehow, deep down, I don't think it will be. Really disappointed so far.

I don't accept this new Motoko.

There is no Ghost in the Shell without the involvement of Kanno and Kamiyama.

So, I guess a certain influential movie that started the anime franchise never actually existed

Sounds like another Code Geass: Akito the Exiled.

Which is a very bad thing.

FUCK YEAH! I'm so damn excited about this.
And I, for one, like that they decided to make it as OVA/short movies, rather than a full-length TV series. It allows for better visuals and a tighter, more engaging story than a bunch of stand-alone episodes. Maybe I.G were inspired by ufotable's approach to Kara no Kyoukai.
Also love the artwork and character designs. They really look like the designs from the original 1995 movie.
Can't wait for this!

nice, should be a nice breath of fresh air for the series. I feel like people aren't open to change and aren't giving it a chance.

Looks very nice, with promising action. Was hoping for another TV series, but I guess 50 minute episodes are okay.

Mixed feelings, I suppose. Don't disappoint!

Hopefully this inspires Kamiyama to do a "3rd GIG".
The trailer looks pretty good. Seems like they kinda managed to capture the essence of the show. The changed character designs will take getting used to (some more than others), but I'm looking forward as to what they com up with for Motoko's past. Don't ruin her Production I.G!

Fans in Japan react quite badly with the wholesale change of all VAs. They are not enthusiastic about a OVA model for the anime distribution. Combined with the ambivalent reactions about the new character design, the prognosis for the new series does not look so bright (for now at least).
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

In a way, that could end up being a good thing - low expectations mean that they will be easy to exceed. If everyone thought it was going to be perfect, than anything less than perfection would have been smashed. They still have to actually crank out a good product for this to work, though.

As a hardcore fan of GitS I was very excited when I read the first news. Now after seeing the 2 videos posted in here, my expectations became very very high, but the only 2 things I didn't like at all are that the 1st film will be 50 mins. long and that none of the original VAs will be returning. I just hope that if in the end a 3rd GIG gets green light I just hope all the VAs return as for Kanno and Kamiyama.

In the end this looks pretty solid, despite what I mentioned above, animation and art looks astonishing. Probably this will be better than most of the animes that are been made nowadays and the ones to come. Very excited, looking forward to it.

Now we're talking the sme language! hells yeah.
The Art of Shipping is no mere game. It can be small skirmishes to huge nation size wars.
Of course some will claim their ship is the BATTLESHIP but they all do. This is why battles occur because of factions fighting each other to justify their favourite ship.
And thus SHIP to SHIP combat occurs almost anytime even now.
Beware, Threading into the Shipping battlefield will be bloody.... What are you waiting for?

They might be testing the waters with OVAs. If people like them they might make a series following the OVAs.

I would prefer a TV series...

And I hope these OVA won't have the same gap releases as the Code Geass ones.

I a HUGE GITS fan too and it aint looking bad at all for me, despite all changes.

Regarding the change of seiyuu, while I would have preferred the old cast as anyone else, japanese seiyuus are the best, I doubt the new ones will disappoint and will do and excellent work.

Animation looks top notch, so no worries there, new character designs not bad at all, some characters different but nothing bad at all, they are younger so you can expect some characters to look different.

I am not expecting GITS:SAC level but I think this can be decent to very good.

Looks like this one is going to be even worse than that TV series.

Disappointing trailer btw. Cheap "cel-shaded" CGI is just cheap. Nice job with your usual crap Production IG.

Character design is average to decent I guess. No where the same level as the epic 1995 movie.

It's hard to take someone who scored DBZ movies 9 seriously. Btw, "nowhere" is spelled as one word.

Although I was baiting somewhat, I wasn't joking, haha. For a renowned action show I was shocked by how bland and boring the visuals were. But ultimately what made me drop it were the laughable moments of reflection at the end of each episode. "Wait... what if the killer just wanted to be loved??" *camera pans cityscape* "YEAHHHHHH!" They were like something straight out of a bad cop show.

You may want to check out the condensed version that involves the main plot alone:
http://myanimelist.net/anime/2449/Ghost_in_the_Shell:_Stand_Alone_Complex_-_The_Laughing_Man

Many people get bored with the individual episodes (some of which are genuinely bad) and never even reach the complex ones. You can do the same for season two (http://myanimelist.net/anime/2448/Ghost_in_the_Shell:_Stand_Alone_Complex_2nd_GIG_-_Individual_Eleven), although the individual episodes there are of much better quality.

Don't waste your time, he scored the GITS 6 so he is clearly not interested in the GITS franchise. It's probably too ridicilous/absurd for him.

Thanks, I think I'll try that actually. I was under the impression the entire show was episodic.

An unintentional joke then...

You could have at least given it until the Laughing Man story started. I can't guarantee you'll like it though, but it's definitely the best part of the first season. But, then again, I liked most of the stand alone episodes, so it's obvious we don't really see eye to eye regarding this series or I guess the franchise as a whole.

Is your list saying that you dropped SAC after two episodes accurate? I'd assume you saw more if the "end of episode reflection" stuff bothered you, as presumably it would only bother if it happened a lot.

My opinion is similar to hentai_proxy's. The first season is very good, but the Laughing Man episodes are the real meat of it. The "Individual" episodes, as they're aptly called, are hit and miss. I did like most of them but Laughing Man is where it's at.

2nd GIG was more consistent in quality from episode to episode. If you do try the Laughing Man summary version (which I haven't seen, so I can't speak to how well it covers the material) and end up liking it, then I'd strongly recommend trying 2nd GIG in its entirety before going straight to the the highlights version.

Yeah, it's accurate. Two episodes was enough to bother me, lol. Sometimes I try to give well-received shows a "fair chance", but I just wasn't enjoying it enough to do that. Interesting to see that the Laughing Man arc starts only two episodes later.

But anywho, I'm going to give the Laughing Man summary version a try and go from there.

The anime staff has kindly provided with help for those who may prefer longer arc to standalone stories (or vice versa)

You can look at the title of the episodes and tell if it is a standalone episode or part of a longer arc. The first 3 episodes have title started with "SA", meaning they are standalone episode. The next 3 episodes (ep.4-6) have title started with "C", meaning they are "complex episodes" where the episodes are linked. They even have the screen colored differently when the title is shown. SC has green color while C has blue.

Ep.3 is where the Laughing Man arc starts.
