I like her, she's my 2nd favorite character in the series (after Kobato). Her manipulative personality reminds me of Izaya, my favorite male character.

Masochists = "a person who enjoys receiving pain."
Sadists (Yozora) = One who has a sadistic personality disorder which is characterized by deriving satisfaction from the physical or psychological suffering of another person. A person of this type is controlling, likes to humiliate a person in public, disciplines brutally when in a position of power, and likes to intimidate people.

yea i know the defention but because yozora has sadist personality traits doesn't mean anyone who like her a masochists since we are not receiving pain like Sena .
Anyways seems the topic run its course since there is no real arguments since it is just a matter of liked and dislike/hate .

being a bystander who is enjoying the sadist bullying others and who likes seeing the sadist act the way she/he does, that bystander or watcher is either an S or M :)

yeah, no more real arguments. I really think that everything has already been said. ^_^

To be honest, I love Izaya and for a fact mostly the sadistic, manipulative characters but one can't compare the standards of Izaya to Yozora.

she's not being praised but she is being liked for the traits that hinders her to make friends. And what is the anime about? Making friends.

On the one hand it is being said that Sena doesn't act like normal girls IRL, she should act more like Yozora because her traits fits a girl IRL more and on the other hand, it's being said that progress is not important it's only an anime. See the contradiction we have here?

I stopped participating mostly because it's becoming too hard to understand what some of you are talking about. When you have to spend half a post clarifying what the other person meant, before being able to proceed to your own, it gets tiring. No one said Sena should act more like Yozora, nor is this is a competition to pick the best personality out of a bad bunch.

For the first paragraph, your assumption that this series is about friendship is not proven. The marketing slogon has always been zennen style high school romantic comedy. Every character (Kodaka included) are zennen in their own ways. It stands to reason the more zennen a character is, the higher the importance in the story. If you think by growth in this show means characters to remove their unfortunate personality ie to become more normal, then the show is quickly heading to the meh heap.

The crust of the discussion is simply - some viewers have lower tolerance for a particular type of bad personality, and some have high tolerance for other bad persaonlity - which leads to the misconception that some characters are 'better'/'progressed' than others.

A large portion of the LN readership consider Yozora to be the most tragic. Which leads to an interesting phenomenom - those that are neutral/liked her character are somewhat sympathetic, whilst those who developed a hatred consider the circumstances are well deserved.

Yes,I'm sure there is people who hate Yozora as much as you.Not including me.

In fact,it's safe to say that she is my 2nd favorite character of this show.Behind Kodaka,of course. But this is just my opinion.
My Devianart

Oh & Space Brothers is still the best anime ever,in my opinion.Even when competing with Attack on Titan.

And in some parallel universe, Yozora is honest with her feelings.

Thought it's already established Yozora created the club for Kodaka alone. Now, Sena may want to give making friends a go as well, as soon as she stops considering all other girls as bitches.

I give up, as I said, this i's just too hard.

as it has been said to death in this topic , Yozora doesn't want to make FRIENDS her only goal from the club is to get close to kodaka it is implied through the whole anime .
she doesn't want to be around crowds because she has a social disorder about it like rika.

The reply with the screenshots answers to the following statement, which suggests that boku wa tomadachi ga sukunai is not an anime about friendship but is focused on romance/zennen.

We have already cleared the fact that Yozora founded the club with an ulterior motive and that is to be solely close to Kodaka again. It has been repeated a lot of times already. The screenshot is no more than a "lie".

not sure why anyone like yozora, much less in rl. she's a downer, constantly puts people down, and is just unpleasant to be around. not sure why someone would like to constantly feel like crap but guess everyone has a preference.

personally, i prefer rika since shes funny and seems like a blast.

I agree with you that it IS indeed funny when she is trolling her but sometimes she is just too cruel just like in ep 6. that was too much so i started to despise her a bit more.

Episode 6, you mean the fortune telling thing? That was partly Senas fault, anyone with some brain would have realized Yozora was just spouting random crap

There needs to be a poll, do you dislike Yozora?

There's already been a poll...

I think this shows who's everyone real favorite is...

http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=552305

but...really it' getting pretty tiring because the arguments are pretty much repeating itself, everyone comes here to argue what the other characters are doing wrong, but if you only focus on Yozora you would see, a girl who is only intense on Kodaka, has no real hobbies and who's only goal is to be with a guy. It sounds pretty pathetic to me.

everyone who thinks that Yozora is nice and perfect are either into masochism or have a high tolerance towards bullying.

@Iner7ia
plot/character development is important and in a harem anime, I think that focusing only on 2 girls would make everything quite draggy. And I already have Minami-ke/Nichijou for the slice of life and never changing characters and it's perfect. but that's just me...

Plot an character development are somewhat important, but I think at this point especially with the first season behind it, most of the characters are pretty strong. I agree that Yukimura, Rika, Kobato, and Maria are all less developed than Sena, Yozora, and Kodaka, but I don't have a problem with that. The way I see it, they don't really need to develop those other characters any further because we already pretty much know them.

And on the plot, I guess it's not a slice of life nearly the same way that Nichijou is, but in the end it kind of is a slice of life with a minor plot. It's mostly just comedy, romance, and slice of life. It's enough for me, but maybe it's not for everyone.

That last comment you made on Yozora about the masochism and high tolerance to bullying was pretty untrue though. If we're just going to be throwing out baseless opinions then I might as well say that everyone who likes Sena is a hick with a fetish for overly-large breasts and stupidity. But that's probably not true, is it? Yozora has a cruel personality, but I like her because you can tell that she's really just defensive of herself. In other words, she's some form of a tsundere. And high-tolerance to bullying? Come on. Don't take it so seriously. Yozora is obviously capable of feeling bad for hurting people, which she demonstrates in the 6th episode. She just has a really tough shell. Besides, where does the plot that you want even go without the rivalry between her and Sena?

Yes, let's applaud Yozora for having a conscience, not that she's actually going to change her attitude, she's probably going to bully someone in the next episode one way or the other, but yeah, it's all for comedy, so everything is good. Sena is at fault but she actually thought that Yozora is her friend. Yozora really has a tough shell of insecurity, that is why she kept on putting people down and that's comedy, that is something we shouldn't take seriously. And the rivalry thing is something I enjoy very much, especially the thing with the roller coaster and the pet name Niku.

In episode 6 though, what did you guys feel when Yozora was trying to ask Kodaka out? Did you pity her? Because, I felt relieve that he didn't hear it or NOONE in the room for that matter. First it would be awkward because everyone has a thing for Kodaka and secondly, Kodaka would be forced to say no, to not disappoint the other girls, which would then lead to Yozora being sad....

Buddy by your logic it's like the same as saying it's the victim's fault if she is raped rather than the rapist. Sure some people are guillable but does that make the bullying ok? No and Yozora just pretty much bullies everyone who is close to Kodaka except for Rika (she is on a whole different level) and Kobato (she would bully Kodaka's sister would she?). Also Sena fell for them because she seriously wants to be friends with Yozora. But what does she do? Bully her 80% of the time for unnecessary reasons or for nothing at all. When Sena retort she slaps her with a flyswatter.

While most of her plans for embarrassing or bullying others backfired she just gets more depressed rather than being happy or apologetic that her tricks didn't do much harm. For example the recent events with Yukimura should prove my point.

Also i don't hate her but she is just too much pathetic. She bullies even those who wants to friends with her, Sena for example. But she can't take it when she gets teased or bullied instead. She is fine with writing a script of Sena getting raped but gets uncomfortable whenever someone says something sexual.

She could have told Kodaka who she is without doing all this shit but she is still bound by that friendship 10 years ago. She says she doesn't want to continue the previous relation but the later episodes will prove how much of a hypocrite and pathetic she is. Btw if fans haven't noticed her so called development in episode 6 is only for putting up a front. She likes to attack but she can't take similar attacks well enough. Another part of her i really hate.

Sorry how is it Kodaka's fault that Yozora and Sena are like that. He stops things from escalating to something worse most of the time. If you watched the show properly if would have seen it. Having read the novel, i am waiting to see the reactions when everyone will see how the characters really think in the later episodes. The biggest surprises will be Kodaka, Yozora, Sena and Rika. Well i won't spoil anything for the anime only viewers but its going to be interesting.

Sorry but how is this even remotly similar to rape?

wordreference definition of rape

the offence of forcing a person, esp a woman, to submit to sexual intercourse against that person's will

Yozora never forced anything on Sena, most of the time when Sena gets trolled beacause she allows it herself, if Sena had some sort of common sense she wouldnt get trolled by Yozora. Why does Yozora have to be friends with if she does not want to? You are friends of people you like if you dislike them then there is no reason for you to have any sort of relationship with them if dont want to.
The fact a person is guillable doesnt make it right to bully her, however you have to remember that Sena is also very haughty attitude and those sort of people can get really annoying sometimes and to be honest sometimes Sena is more than just guillable, she in fact sometimes just plain dumb.

Yes Yozora is cruel, selfish and insecure, does that make her a bad character? Nope that makes her a flawed character. If you want perfect characters without any sort of flaws you can always watch SAO.

And besides all this

I like both Sena and Yozora. Sena's redeeming features in my opinion is her boobs, cute personality and her innocense and maybe the way she acts around kodaka when their together alone.
But I also like yozora, even though it's a bum that yozora cuts her hair, I still like her style and personality. She is pretty much the type who conceals her fragile self in a shell filled with the negative and irritating emotions from others and herself. I believe she is like some dark choco that I taste last christmas, Bitter on the outside and sweet on the inside.
Even though I originally like yozora because of her long black hair.....
But what most likely to happen is Sena x Kodaka.....
Yes, Sena x Kodaka NOT Kodaka x Sena or Kodaka x Yozora, it's Sena x Kodaka.

At least now it is a boke and tsukomi route with Sena.

Thanks a lot for understanding. Understanding the characters in this type of animes make it more fun to watch.

@Raziel1991: I think you misunderstood my point completely. And by what you are saying that makes Yozora even worse. Sena wants to be friends but Yozora doesn't and she takes advantage of this fact to bully her even worse (By what you are saying).

I don't hate her but like i said she is pathetic and will end up exactly like the game they played if she doesn't make an effort. Also Sena's type is the one i usually hate..........big boobs, perfect genius but dumb type (for example: Mizuki from baka to test)........but i was so wrong. She actually has a pretty nice character under that haughty attitude as shown multiple times. She is also very kind but doesn't show it usually. Yozora doesn't show any remorse most of the time only in extreme cases but doesn't stop bullying any time soon and Yozora's attitude is also annoying. All the characters have flaws but that makes it all the more interesting.

Yozora maybe not really a likeable character , but to me, she is the most interesting character in the show by far. I'd have dropped this long time a go if not for her.
Too bad there are barely yozora's development and yozora x kodaka moment.
It's all about Sena being dumb and playing victim.
Does the LN any better ?

^have the same opinion as you.. I would've dropped this anime if not for her..
I was shocked at how most users in this thread hate Yozora.. She created the club that's the reason why everyone were gathered in it and no one even thanked her for that..

Yozora sure is manipulative but she has a tender side too..
and about who'll end up with Kodaka, I'll go for Yozora, of course but there is a lil hint of her that she likes Kodaka.. I think she liked him only as a friend and she really treasures him..

Incidentally most portrayal of anime girls are just shadows, or dreams - and I wouldn't even call them ideal because doing so is terribly disrepectful to actual women. But I suppose you can always dream.

Because I'm a girl.
Yozora is cooler and wittier, which I prefer over Meat's personality. Meat's personality seems to have a mix of everything, which just makes it confusing to me. I can't even describe it.

First you make a pretty blatant and offensive generalisation of girls, then you say that seeing a fictional characteras ideal is offensive towards girls? Riiight. There are girls out there who aren't total bitches, and while they might not be like Sena either, I'd rather put them in a "Sena group" rather than a "Yozora group" if I were forced to pick one of them. There are the "Yozora girls" too, but don't go saying like all girls are more like Yozora.

As for girls taking offense from a fictive character being seen as ideal? Nah. Would you take offense if a random girls said that, say, Lelouch from Code Geass was her ideal man? I mean... it really isn't "terribly disrespectful" at all. It's only an opinion based on personal taste after all. Nothing wrong with that, really.

As for hating Yozora, yes I do find her incredibly annoying. I'm not a huge Sena fan either to be honest, my fav is probably Rika. But Yozora just shows no respect towards the others, takes her own problems out on the others and tries to act cool but fails misreably. A few of her traits are normal and believable, but do by no means make me like her more. Basically: if the characters were real, I think I could have gotten along with pretty much everyone except Yozora.

@MsBrightside

I think Yozora is actually sort of making a turnaround as far as her attitude goes, at least a little bit. It would actually be a bad thing if she lost ALL of her hostility because that's part of her character, but she definitely felt bad for hurting Sena's feelings in ep 6. (Even though Sena is too ADD to even be upset once she walks into the club room). If it weren't for Kobato being their, Yozora might have even tried to apologize. Either way though, I'm sure that Yozora does sort of feel that Sena is her friend but she's too proud to admit it, or something like that. (Not to mention she's competing with her for Kodaka.)

Nope, I did pity her. But I'm not upset with the way it turned out. It's still a little early in the season for Kodaka to sort of "pick" a girl. But you're right that it would be bad if everyone in the room heard it.

i dont hate yozora but ep 7 is a good example of why i like sena infinitely better. kodaka asked sena if she cared that yozora and him were childhood friends, but she replied that initially she was taken aback but then she thought about it and decided it wasn't that big a deal. no matter how i think about it if the positions for sena and yozora were flipped in that position, yozora would just become more spiteful whereas sena took things pretty well. seriously with the way things are going if it's not sena end i'm going to be mad.

I think it would be infinitely stupid if it turns out to be a Sena end. I really don't think that's the direction this anime is going in, and in my opinion, it definitely shouldn't be going in that direction. It's perfectly okay if you like Sena a lot, but I don't think that means she should be the one Kodaka chooses. I just don't think this anime is really about her.

Seems you are not watching the same anime as everyone else , out of all the girls sena has the best chance to end up with Kodaka .
( has the most moments with kodaka , most of the screen time , gonna have a big development with kodaka don't wanna spoil it .)

Well if that's the way it's going to turn out, it's disappointing. Hopefully they don't make me regret watching it.

The anime is not gonna have him choose in the end , as for the novel still not 100% known who the author is gonna kodaka end up with.

Well, she has gotten better than season 1 Yozora. In the first season she was really someone to hate.

^This. I still like Sena a little better, which is rare for me, but last season I absolutely HATED Yozora, and this season I kind of like her. She's still a bitch though.

No. I don't hate her but I don't like her either. Also, it doesn't mean I prefer Sena more than Yozora. I'm neutral to all of the characters on this series.

The only thing that makes this anime bad is Yozora. She reaaaally is a bitch. Even if she doesn't like Sena, she shouldn't act like she does >> And in this season she makes me even more angry than before. It seriously annoy me that I can't enjoy the anime because one of the characters is like this.

This anime wouldn't exist without Yozora. Not only would the entire plot be gone considering that she was the one who made the club to be with Kodaka, but also 90% of the rivalry would disappear. Yozora is a crucial character even if you don't like her. I don't really get why everyone likes Sena so much other than the big tits.

- Because Yozora is a bitch and Sena is the antithesis
- Because Sena is a creep on Kobato, it's okay if it's hot girl, otherwise if it's the older brother
- Because Sena plays games, and is relatively nice to everyone
- Because Sena is violent or abusive when she denies her feelings
- Because Sena tries to make friends with Yozora, while she blantly refuses and is stubborn
- Because Sena is good looking, like you said.
- Because Sena is a focused heroine, the more exposed you are to one that is likable, the more you usually like them

probably more

Exactly, I don't want to be disappointed too.. Sure is Sena has a lot moments with Kodaka but who knows..maybe it will be someone other than Sena or Kodaka will end up w/ no one at all..
