According to the official website, Shinkai Makoto's new anime movie "Kotonoha no Niwa" was announced to be premiered within the first half of the year 2013. Shinkai said it will be his first 恋 (love) story. He said, "There had not been the concept of 恋愛 (romance) before the modern period in the language of Japanese. 恋 (love) had been written as 孤悲 (lone sorrow) since 8th century. Although the story of this movie takes place in current Japan, I'd like to describe such an ancient emotion of lone sorrow."
OMG YES! The best news of this week. And I count may parents not forgetting to buy me a Christmas present. That (very vague) description sounds awesome and it's also quite fast after his last film, so maybe it means he'll be making films faster. I know probably not but one can always dream.
Considering I just watch his most recent movie, this is smashing news. It's great that it's a love story too, while Hoshi wo ou Kodomo wasn't bad, it certainly lacked the character connection to make it as good as his other works.
Seems like he's back doing love story/tragic romance again, which is not a bad thing, since it's his forte. Hope it won't be a disappointment like his previous work. Not that Hoshi o Ou Kodomo was bad, but it just didn't live up to expectations, and it tries too hard to be a Miyazaki movie.
beautiful concept: love as "lone sorrow".......something i've experienced many times, the one-sidedness of unrequited love.......in japan the language itself can have an ethereal effervescence that western language cannot generally convey (one of the many things i love about the culture) - looking forward to this!
