Whoaaa this anime skyrocketed to my favorites with this episode! I'm shaking by the epicness, lol.

I loved the first half with the fighting part, really intense and so far the best part of Psycho-Pass, but the 2nd half made it even better than that. Poor Yuki, she had nothing to do with this whole thing but she had to suffer and fear so much, before getting her throat cut cruelly by a psychopath who doesn't even register in the 'almighty' system that everyone's so proud of.

Really interesting 2nd half, this episode told us a lot about the main evil of the story, Shogo is a very interesting character, you don't see this good antagonists very often. And with that, I mean a very intelligent but so twisted person that it's beyond disgusting, it's just something you can't understand. Poor Akane, it might take her a while to get over this, that was so cruel =( Having to watch one of her best friends get brutally murdered in front of her eyes and she couldn't do a thing about it. The Sibyl system she trusted so much betrayed her at the most crucial moment.

OMG. This is, by far, biggest surprise episode I've watched. I wonder how Makishima can even pass the Sibyl system even when he murder someone...Could it be that his will is the weakness of the Sibyl system since it's mentioned that the will is never a part of Crime Coefficient assessment?

On side note, judging from how good this anime progressed, I can say this anime can really surpass Fate/Zero at any time.

He's registered but whatever he does, his Psychopass will always be clear, and in fact as you see in this episode perfectly zero. so according to SIBYL, he's literally an "angel" who can do no crime.

im sad that Tsune's friend died and all but we wouldnt get anywhere until something bad happened to Tsune and she finally got her shit together. I guess her friends death is going to do that.

I thought that makishima's crime co was going to be over the roof, like in the 1000's however when it said below 50... ಠ_ಠ (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
and then to add insult to injury, as Tsune keeps checking it gets lower and lower all the way to 0 (╯°Д°)╯︵ /(.□ . \)

Best episode yet with Akane getting mindfucked like that. I was yelling at her to pick the gun aim and blow his head but i knew she wouldn't. Felt sorry for that poor girl. I wonder what the consequences for her would have been if she killed him when the system refuses to see him as a criminal.
So after getting so mindfucked is Akane's phycho-pass still fine?

Btw despite the fact his a murderous ass i can't help but agree with his opinion about the system being bullshit.
His existence shows how flawed the system is and is about time they fought against it.

This really hits the pits cause Shougo does not register at all with the system. If anything he is DNA/Brain altered. This is impossible that the system does not react to him. At worst he has Admin privileges of the Sybil system and where he may be registered as part of the creating team. There he can as easily as Kayaba did in SAO before dying in implementing something to make the system not recognize him or his crime coefficient. It’s either that mind alterations as to never raise his Crime Coefficient.

These episodes keep getting better. While I didn't like how her friend was cut and then killed while she couldn't do anything it's really going to help with her character development. This is my favorite anime this season.

I think he can bypass the system like that because his a complete psychopath. Basically he feels nothing about killing people and doing what he does.
Usually most murderers etc even if they seem to not have remorse even a little in the back of their head know there's something wrong with what they are doing.
This guy might really feel absolutely nothing about doing what he does and so the system can't find anything in his brain that will show that something irregular is happening since his brain is so calm like nothing irregular did no matter what he did.

Reliable? Forget that, the question here is to see it is plain and simply RETARDED. In this aspect Makishima is absolutely right. Or anyone here suggests its ok to let a machine rules peoples entire lives in all aspects and worst judge them?

This is what I think, is it possible?

Judging how freaked out Yuki wasl she should have a high crime coefficient (similar to the lady freaked out from being raped at ep 1). Can't Akane borrow Yuki's crime coefficient to unlock the dominator and quickly aim at Shougo before pulling the trigger? Dominator's transformation is mechanical, and it doesn't lock immediately after the dominator's aim left the target and has a delay before firing the shot (when Kougami dodge and shoots the hound). So it should have a short delay for Akane to redirect the shot at Shougo.

I suspected that Makishima would be able to defeat the Sybil system, thereby exposing the limitations of the Dominator. I wonder how long before Akane is so clouded that she's dropped as an inspector.

IN his speech, Makishima makes a good point. It is the will to carry out an act that truly separates the criminal from the non-criminal. All human being at one point harbour feeling of anger, jealousy or cruelty. But not everyone acts on those feelings. Therein lies the flaw of the Sybil system.

Best anime this season hands down. Not even close.

Wow, this episode was exciting!

Shinya was awsome as always! <3
In my opinion Akane isn't suitable for this job at all, she's way to naive and a real scaredy cat on top of that.
It is such a shame that Yuki had to die, I wished Akane would have just throw away the Dominator and use the gun instead to save her friend.

I'm looking forward to the next episode, I'm interested in how they will deal with Makishima because the Sybil System is useless in his case.

It's still a possible occurrence or speculation even if it's mixed up and since when anime does not do that.

Always mixes up stuff anyway. From the occult to other elements.

1. It's a shotgun, she is going to hit both, from that range though it probably wouldnt be killing anyone.

2. She is a new recruit, it is her first time handling a situation like that. not to mention one of her best friends lives are on the line bundled with makishimas psycho pass being very low. It's realistic that she reacted the way she did, she can hardly be called a scaredy cat after having chased after him. i wouldnt say she asa naive either but hey :) and theres also the fact that proper guns are very rarely used and they dont have any training with them whatsoever. i think akane is a good character

Maybe if makishima doesn't kill people or manipulate others into doing so then his crime coefficient would rise?

I think the reason he can't be judged by the Dominator is because he's mentally sane. You could even put it as he has 'method behind his madness'. The other criminals thus far were unable to have a grip on reality and went insane, often with symptoms of schizophrenia. Yet, Makashima sees humanity not as humanity, but as a study, and an art, and something to be studied, not lived.

0_0 indeed, that you point out its the interesting part, I dont like the idea of falling into the rule of a machine, I agree 200% with the other part, it just shows you we are simply fucked no matter what, either we fuck each other as humans or we let a machine fuck us, the interesting part is whats worst, ultimately I support free will for better or worst rather than giving up my freedom, my privacy, my rights, which of course does not mean rulers will respect them either, as it actually happens right now in the real world, see the interesting part? Ultimately it goes back to what I said, we are fucked either way. In theory its easy to see why the sibyl system exist and people are under its rule but the theory does not always translates as smooth to reality. It could be than an hybrid system would be better, like bypassing the systems judging under certain circumstances, like what happened this ep, the system failed and Akane was unable to shoot the darn thing, of course this would surely give birth no numerous problems, so no matter what we do there is no perfect solution.

I just went speechless for a minute after this ep, it was that good.

Discovery... Resistance... Hopelessness... Inevitability... Resignation... Shock... Suffering

Urobuchi Gen can capture not only emotions and feelings of his characters but also emotions and feelings of his anime watchers. That scene has been burned into my brain for a long time.

She should've just took the opportunity given the momuent that Makishima guy gave her the loaded shotgun, to just finish him up right there and then.

But then, the series would end rather quickly now, wouldn't it?

so, wth.

But I gotta say, this series is picking itself up rather interestingly right now (something I've been waiting to happen for like forever.)

Cannot wait for more of Psycho Pass!!

Three things:
1) she never killed someone before, dominator did. Dominators always did that dirty job so their psychopasses didn't get cloudy. In case of that shotgun it would be HER who had to pull the trigger noone else.
2) she could easilly kill not only makishima but yuki also with that shotgun. collateral damage. cold shots of those rifles scatter greately with distance.
3) she was terrified that his psychopass was ok for dominator.

I'm a bit surprised this was introduced so quickly. It was fairly obvious that this flaw would exist in the Sybil System, and it was also fairly obvious that Makishima would be the most likely candidate for showing it. He's already shown several clear indicators of being a "classic" sociopath, which would by its nature represent the greatest natural candidate for spoofing the Sybil System in this direction. So, no real surprises there, other than how openly he flaunts himself here.

Still, I didn't expect it to come to play so early, which leaves a great deal open for exactly what's going to happen in the second half of the series. If this is coming out now, I can only hope what's coming later isn't the obvious.

Akane being all panicky really infuriated me. I understand that she was taken aback by Makishima's crime coefficient and that it's against the laws laid down by Sybil to take the matter in her own hand and kill someone with an otherwise clear hue but if she can't keep her composure in a difficult situation and confront someone who is constantly threatening to kill a helpless girl, then why the hell is she an inspector to begin with?

And the way she was holding that gun indicates that she can't use any weapon other than the Dominator whatsoever which basically means, Sybil is so full of itself that it believes a Dominator is all you need to hold on to and you're as good as to call yourself an inspector regardless of how inexperienced and irresolute you are.

My question is: Why does everyone think the Sibyl system is flawless? Why don't Inspectors and Enforcers carry normal pistols in case of an emergency? I know that the point of the Dominators are that no normal people can use them, but there have got to be some exceptions for maximum assurance.

Other than that, I loved this episode.

Well, she did in one episode admit that she probably wasn't completely suited for the job, but being the only candidate who highly scored in some "Inspector" test, or something, she believed she had a role there that no one else could fill.

Gunpowder weapons were also mentioned in the same episode to not have been seen in quite a while, so it's understandable that she can only use a Dominator.

Also, I believe the Sybil system is a more or less a thematic element, and is supposed to pose the question "is it truly possible to measure a person's soul with a number?" I'm expecting later episodes to question the viability of such a system.

We also heard of humanity placing safeguards on everything in an earlier episode. The Sybil system IS the "safety-lock" on the Dominator. Theoretically, only criminals could be taken out by such a weapon.

We've seen Akane's absolute dependence on the system, a "slave" as she was called, in order to judge whether or not a person can be considered a criminal. We witnessed the contradiction between the perpetrator's (whose name currently eludes me) criminal tendencies, with his "Psycho-Pass", yet Akane chose to stick with the Sybil system even when it was too late, continuing to hold the Dominator, rather than cast it aside. This clearly indicates her unwillingness to distrust the Sybil system.

The society depicted put absolute faith in a number, and as such never imagined that there would be a flaw in the system.

I think it's not like the dominator analyze what people think about their deeds " it's some thing wrong or not " . Take kogami like an example , he was judged by the dominator because he wanted revenge to his friend and I'm pretty sure that in bottom of his heart that he tought that killing the criminal is the right decision to do and nothing wrong with that.
So .. basicly I think that the system analyse the person's instincts and if there's something wrong with his instincts the system will judge him .
In Makishma case , it's so strange that the dominator can't detect his criminal instincts and still more his coeff crime decrease the more he has an intention to commit a crime !

Fucking hell this was good. Really intense episode, I quite expected that Akane wouldn't shoot him although I didn't expect it would turn out like this. Makishima makes a great villain. I love those calm merciless psychopaths. Oh wait...

Arghhhhhh!!!! Stupid Akane!!!!! Well, I won't blame you, I knew living by the judgement of a stupid system was bad from the beginning!! People no longer have what you'd call free will anymore, even if you're just depressed, you're a criminal, so DAMN STUPID!! While watching this episode, I was just shouting: " Frickin' Kill him already, don't care about his psycho-pass, Yuki is about to get killed, Dammit!!"
The show is getting along nicely!!!

important note: does that shotgun have unlimited bullets? its been bugging me, i haven't seen the old guy reload to allow the no. of shots done after it

another note: this series makes use of pseudo-scientific reasoning, well that's the case for me, but still i love it
