You just picked on three of the biggest fanbases on MAL and two of them have gained greater success than most anime. And seriously, art don't equal quality. If anything, most newer anime have 10 times better art and animation quality than classic anime.

OT ; I don't have a preference for the time period. As long as I can enjoy it, I'm fine with it.

As long as it's good. But sometimes I like to see if any of the new anime got any influences from the older anime.

I like new ones better, old animes just bother me in a way, probably because of the quality lol

It's pretty much if i enjoy it, however i enjoy most of the newer art compared to the old, and for me the art distracts when i try to watch older stuff.

I'm all about newer animes, because of the art style (my personal favorite one is Hellsing Ultimate)

But, some of the old ones aren't bad such as yu yu hakusho, the storyline is to my personal liking that's why ^^

I prefer new anime because of animation though I could care less about it most of the time. Still, it really bothers me when the animation is seriously sucks.

While I have no problem enjoying certain selected older shows, the vast majority of my favourites come from 1995 onwards, because as the medium has matured, more techniques have become known and widely used for making stuff really good, (not to mention an increasingly media-aware audience who are more likely to be able to follow them), so really good stuff is more likely to be made. The anime industry has become better through experience; learning what works and what doesn't, and refining what does.

And the key moment of this progression was Evangelion. That was where the industry "came of age" and started producing the best dramatic television in the world.

I prefer the newer anime, I can't watch Trigun because of how it looks, it's just a big turn off for me. So I'll keep watching the newer ones thank you very much.

Cherry picking is a helpfull skill to have.

Opponents call it cherry picking. Proponents call them examples.

And folks with no horse in the race call them cherry picked examples.

2 Battle angel.
3 Bio-armor guyver.
4 Oedo 808.

Btw. I didn't actually edit that picture. It was from Wikipedia before they took it off their website, showing arts of different time zones and how they "evolved" into such masterpiece today :P

An image that is obviously biased and cherry picked clearly doesn't fit within their guidelines.

I love alot of shows pre-late90's and post 2010.

I've found that there has been alot of great shows coming out over the last few years which dont typically fall into the generic runt of the 21st century anime industry, not that i am dissing or mocking the moe'blob culture of the 00's i love my moe just as much as the next man.

I don't really when there's bad quality in the old shows. But I love all of Miyuzaki's films and most of my favourites where created in the 80-90s. But I guess I don't really care when it was made. A good anime is a good anime that's that.

c'mon use the search function buddy.

And/or put some effort into explaining what you are referring to by those meaningless terms 'old art' and 'new art'.

I gave up a while ago, it's more fun. Just report the thread and lurk, the arguments always get pretty interesting.

That's a hard one, but I like it better when people get mad at someone who bumped a years old thread. Like "Really? You bumped a three year old thread to say that.

I don't like it when an anime with 'old' visuals suddenly upgrades into the 'new' visuals. Example being One Piece and Detective Conan, there was an episode in both those shows where it just suddenly changed and the transition took a while to get used to.

Very. It's important to know that a lot of older anime are hand painted and/or hand drawn.
I prefer how 60s and 90s anime look. Then early 2000s. Then modern.
Shows like Kimba the White Lion and 1960s Astro Boy have very good looking art, despite the massive age. They don't look very anime-y, however there is something distinguishing and nice about the simple art design.
I mean, look at that:

Admittedly, it might just be Tezuka's art, though.
90s anime look more modern and have more of a obvious difference in color and style. Here are some examples:

Modern anime are often colored using computers, if I'm right, and may or may not be hand drawn.
Examples of modern anime:

Notice how much brighter and shinier modern anime are.
And, for the heck of it, here's some early 2000s stuff:

However, I really don't like 80s anime. The art looks like it was trying to transition closer to modern anime and move away from the simplistic and cute 60s style, but the budget was still much lower I assume and we got something that, in my eyes, looks really ugly. Look:
