Nothing too exciting here. Not a big fan of the top#2 and I'm still having trouble comprehending how Tari Tari could actually be successful. Well, glad to see Nobuna doing somewhat well at least and Mayuyu still ranking. |

Oh wow, just noticed that not one of the 5 character CDs from Girls und Panzer ranked. Hell, I figured with the outpouring of otaku support GuP has been getting that 2k for the CDs would have been a cinch. |

As expected, Ixion saga DT ranked in DVD but not BR. Nothing got a second week in blurays, and very few new things. Was there a lot of non-anime blu-ray coming out this week? |

Go Tari Tari! One of those buys was mine so I am helping. Love this show, the rest are preordered already! Such great music in Dolby Digital, the visuals are stunning in BD 1080p and the characters and story are just wonderful. Now the box that came with BD2 is 2/3 full: TariTari by hpulley, on Flickr |

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old? I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them? I wonder how long people would put up with this. As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series. |

I am liking these ranks for GaruPan on Stalker atm. I think Vol. 6 should get about 1.2-1.3k second week, since it had an unusually large first week. It should hit very very nearly 10k, if not over, in the monthly list. |

jmal said: 20k would require outperforming Stalker estimates, but there's a much higher chance is underperforms them. But by no means a 100% chance. It isn't doing badly at B&M shops, so Stalker might not be wildly overestimating it. It should do a minimum of 10k even if Stalker is very heavily overestimating it. It will do 13-15k if Stalker is only modestly overestimating it. If Stalker is spot on, it'll do about 18k first week and likely hit 20k by week 2-3. I like to be conservative with guesses about shows I really like so I don't get disappointed, but I think 12k BDs in the first week isn't an unreasonable guess. I'd be quite happy if it were more. DVDs almost certainly won't rank, especially with it coming out around the holidays, but they would only be a few hundred anyway. It'll be quite interesting to see how close Stalker was, because if Stalker is not overestimating it, the Chuunibyou (which is doing significantly better at B&M) could hit 10k BDs first week, plus its DVDs should rank (1-1.5k) too. Yeah, I guess more conservative guesses are needed ever since the overestimation by Stalker of Tari Tari's sales. That's true, hopefully it's on the high end though. I'm fairly curious about how Chu2Koi will perform, as it has been charting highly at HMV for a while now. I've also been curious about how much storefront sales contribute. Little Busters! has been charting well at Gamers for a while. I'm not sure exactly how big Gamers is. |

I know Gamers is the biggest video game store chain in Japan, so it makes sense that an anime based on a video game would do best there. I've always kinda wondered just how many people buy anime at a video game store though. |

With Another's death scenes and the doll stuff I think most would classify it as horror. I certainly do. Most of that author's work is horror. I think perhaps with suspense horror shows you don't need to watch them more than once. I loved Another myself but I have waffled about buying it. Dusk Maiden of Amnesia on the other hand I find I can watch again and again... Kokoro Connect as well though neither have exactly lit up the disc charts sadly so it seems even "slice of life" suspense horror doesn't sell that well. Ah well, I have the novels and manga to fall back on... |

I don't watch those kinds of shows so I just assumed Mirai Nikki was horror since I've only seen screens of a girl carrying around an axe and heard it had lots of gore. Regardless, those kinds of gory/thriller or whatever it is don't sell either. |

I think I'd describe it as a mix of horror elements (mostly Yuno!) in a larger survival game setting. Speaking of, I don't think survival game anime have done well in terms of disc sales in general. Seems like they do better with live action and manga. Gantz for example was huge at the live action box office, while the anime averaged about 2k. Mirai Nikki (another one with a live action adaptation) averaged under 2k, and Btooom! as we see isn't ranking. I know I'm missing some others, but can't think of any that sold well off the top of my head. I guess Savanna Game will try its luck next. Yeah, it doesn't seem to be a genre that does well in anime format but he adaptions are still coming nonetheless. Maybe they want to increase manga sales or test out the ground for live action adaptions? Because I can't remember a single show of that genre that did well in terms of sales since Higurashi (which probably profited from its popularity?). |
I probably regret this post by now. |
