Hey,

So I was at the lunch room at school and there was a conversation going on how long you would want to live. Would you want to extend your life and just be alive if it meant that your health was bad and you couldn't really live life and enjoy it?

I think my answer is that I don't want to outlive my body. If I can't walk, run, and enjoy life then I don't really want to be around. It is my time to bounce out of here. But this one girl who mentioned that she would want to live even if she was bed ridden as long as she can see, talk, read, etc.

What's your take? Would you want to live longer in bad or average health?

Forever, so I can see anime from the far future, go to Mars for a weekend, watch the sun die and make the largest moe collection ever. You know the normal reasons.

Edit: Though this would be pointless unless I stay at my current health forever. I have a hereditary eye condition and will likely be blind by 60, making all of that pointless.

If I am healthy I wouldnt mind going up to 100.But from seeing a lot of elderly people here, hell no.80+ would be to much of a pain so...70-80 it would be a good time to end it.

Well that wouldn't happen for like 5 billion years; our sun is pretty slow burning. Humanity, if it doesn't kill it's self, should be able to get plenty far away from it when it blows.

EDIT: Also think about what video games might be like in 5 billion years!

I know some cultures have people where they will live over 100 and still stay moderately active all because of their diet and how active they are. If I was like that then I wouldn't mind living over 100, middle age should really be 50s not 30s.

Forever.
As a child, I was told that society is a melting pot of talents; knowledge and experience combined to form important alloys that will contribute to mankind. When I got to highschool, however, I thought that it's more like a river in which the water represents our peers while we ourselves are the stones in the river. Constant erosion by mindless majority sheeping has made us lose our unique edge. After I hit the age of 18, I realized that I've been wrong all along. Society is no melting pot. Society is no river. Society is a person, a very skilled rapist, and he has fucked us all.

For as long as I can immerse myself in fictional worlds, life is worth living.

Were something to happen which meant I could never do this again, there would be no point in going on. So that is the time I would choose to die.

Yes, that part is right, but those goals and purposes won't materialize out of thin air by doing nothing. You can't get something out of nothing. If you put forth effort in it something similar to your "goal" will occur.
You choose to live in those delusions if you choose to approach the way you are.

Just this once, I'll fulfill whatever your wish is.

Yes, and? Where have I said that you cannot enjoy some things in life? You're quick to jump to conclusions, just like many others, when it comes to negative things. The "Why don't you kill yourself" is the first response I get, what is just laughable (in a sad way), as well I'm not suicidal (I haven't had a serious thought about it).

Lets say if all people, who find poverty an unacceptable condition to live in, would kill themselves. Does it solves the problem? Answer is obvious, isn't it?

I have not jumped to conclusions. Let's look at what you wrote:

one-more-time said:

How can you get by even day-to-day life without setting any goals and purposes. What is your purpose for responding to my posts on MAL? What is your purpose for any of your interests? What is your purpose for breathing, eating -- living? Obviously, like it or not, we are all living in that "delusion", which leads us to your next post:

Ego defines our self-importance. It is what compels us to live, to rationalize. None of us are free from our egos.

If you are free from your ego, then it is quite logical that people will ask you why you're still alive, because if there's no purpose for you to be doing anything, then it might as well be random. Running in front of a bus would have the same moral value as saving a homeless child from starvation. I won't ask you why you haven't killed yourself (because killing yourself would be just as meaningless or meaningful as taking another breath), but why are you still alive?
